I just bought and returned a Phil Jones Bass Buddy which I really liked and may buy another cos it'd be useful as a back up at gigs but before I do, I thought I'd just weigh up my options. I can't make my mind up whether to buy a nice combo that'll take my MP3 player or buy something like a Bass Buddy to use with headphones. Probably the biggest reason for me not practicing much at home for a while was my sole amp being my GK 2001RB-II and 410RBHs, it's quite a lot of hassle to drag around and set up when you want to prat about while watching TV. My mini head and one 212 is set up at the moment though so I'm using that. I do have a cheap 15w 1x10 practice combo in my room but it's horrible and I can't take it seriously with gear at the opposite end of the scale downstairs. The MB has a headphone output if needed and there's a CD player near where I set up my amp so I just use those if needed. At the moment I'm using a Tascam MP-BT1 but as I rarely use the effects and other facilities available so I'm thinking it would be easier to plug my computer or iPod straight into a Bass Buddy. JPJ Posted April 21, 2011 Share Posted April 21, 2011 I use a Bass Buddy and love it. The compressor is the best 'one knob' compressor I've tried. I have also been using the Amplitube app on the iPad but find the need to download music separately a bit of a chore meaning the Bass Buddy gets most of the work. Lozz196 Posted April 21, 2011 Share Posted April 21, 2011 I use my little Marshall M15 combo. It`s the only practice amp - in my price range - which can actually make a sound like I use live. Great little amp, and any more than 2 on the volume is too loud for home use. Sounds great with a Precision for rock sounds - dunno how people wanting a more hi-fi sound would find it, but then I doubt they`d be looking at Marshall products anyway. stingrayPete1977 Posted April 21, 2011 Share Posted April 21, 2011 Although I have a 1x10 that couples with the shuttle 6.0 (see tiny rigs porn thread) I actually use a Marshall 10watt guitar amp all the time at home! It has a cd in that the drum machine goes in and then the whole sound comes out into my headphones. Delberthot Posted April 22, 2011 Share Posted April 22, 2011 I've got a cheapy Meridian 80w guitar combo with a Celestion that I picked up for peanuts. Has phono inputs and headphone out. Plus with it being a guitar combo, it doesn't annoy the neighbours. Although it does still put out a low of low end for a guitar combo. When I want to hear it I still have my first bass amp - a Laney 30W thing which is plenty loud enough to hear and has line in for the Tascam or my phone when I'm using ChordBot.
