Ebay seller backing out of deal

I just placed the winning bid for a Trace Elliot V6 with 585 pounds.

I was of course extatic, but when I mailed the seller to ask about postage he replied with.... hmmmm,I was expecting it to go for 200 more, I'm not sure I want to sell it.

I wasn't expecting that, I'm absolutely gutted :-(

Oh well, back to the Markbass Cmd 102P.

Or should I offer him a few quid more (that I really can't spare).

Pay via paypal now, then go collect your new amp!

don't pay any extra, he's entered a contract to sell it for that price, if he's not happy with it then unlucky, perhaps he should have set a reserve.
if he's an ebay noob then inform him of the rules. It's not his choice whether to sell or not, it's already sold.

Well at least he backed out before you paid him. He obviously doesn't know how Ebay works. Tell him to put it up again with a reserve price next time. If nobody offers the price he wants he may decide to cut his losses and let you have it.
Then definitely go for the non performing seller if he doesn't play ball. He has no excuse for not knowing the rules.

And had the same Amp on twice http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/trace-elliot-v6-all-...=item4cf5fe31ee
Did you declare this before bidding and was there a uk bidders only in the listing? I had this a while ago after the buyer bid from portugal when it was clearly uk bids only, paid up quick via paypal expecting the postage to be the same! It's the same when you list as pickup only then you see the winner is miles away and await the " our daughter is at uni can we get it in a few months while we are passing?" or similar crap. See my eBay rant in off topic for more eBay fun :)
We sorted it all out quite ammicably. Everyone's a winner.

I'd quite like to know how this all finished..as in whether more money was exchanged, but accept it isn't my business so if the OP doesn't want to say, that is fair enough.

I don't use ebay so knowing how this works was interesting...what with 'evilbay' and all that ..

I assume the seller asked for £600 for it, dunno if that's the case.
Original listing the OP won:

Don't see why really, it sold for what people were willing to pay for it. That's the nature of eBay (and all auctions), sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. Unless there's other mitigating circumstances the seller should have honoured the contract he agreed to in the first place.

That's what I thought but if the op is happy now that's fair enough, I'm more of a pedant :)
