Does anyone make a small poweramp?

Does anyone make a poweramp which is basically the same as poweramp from a small bass amp like a markbass, orange terror etc? As I quite like the idea of using a preamp with a seperate poweramp, something thats around 300 watts into 8 ohms and is small and light.

the SWR amplite is 400 into 4ohms, might not be quite the power your after though.

Exactly the lil puppy I was thinking of mentioning. My answer would be to run a MarkBass F1 flat as a poweramp, which would cover the 350W at 8 Ohms. TDCB, didn't you have an F1?

When it comes to something like that though, its more expensive then most the small amps.

Oh, BK Electronics (www.bkelec.com) *used* to do a power amplifier module that slotted in to the back of a cabinet (with a bit of minor drilling) it could run 600W at 4 Ohms. Sadly, despite being awesome power amps, they stopped making them. 'VelvetKevorkian' on here may still own my old module.

However, one or two companies do make 'panel' amps - the sort you find in active subs etc - but are full range. One such company is Hypex (Hypex.nl) or if you fancy a bit of DIY, look at ColdAmp.com - these are the guys that our very own 'Alien' went to, to build the Alien Amps power amp which *should* still be in the Build Diaries forum.

Yeah, I did have one, and have had a few lightweight amps.

Just seems a lot to spend to be honest just for the poweramp, when I have a preamp to use already.

EDIT: Just realised that's 600 into 2 ohms, 450 into 4. Did they used to do a bigger one? They look pretty cool.

I was thinking the same thing.

I'd really like a cheap 300w 'ish @ 4 ohms power amp that I coud just bung the sansamp into as a backup.

Yep, the question was asked a few years ago - and the website hasn't change for sooo long now. Even the footer says 2004!

Erm. Cheap would outweigh other considerations. I'm not normally a rack kinda guy. Apart form lady bits that is.

I've got a Chevin A1000 I bought from Flanker during the summer which has had no use since I got it ... and clearly now won't be getting any for a while.

I can pass that on for £160.

They were also listed on Gear4Music as the White Horse BT500H for £219, i was looking into one to replace the Superfly but they're not available now

There was a thread about them on Talkbass (edit: was actually finnbass), looked quite interesting

Roll your own amp, [url="http://www.hypex.nl/"]http://www.hypex.nl/[/url] , 180W, 400W & 700W available, think these can be bridged too (don't quote me on that).
A guy over on talkbass put a hypex amp into a fEarful cabinet.
Hypex now do SMPS to go with these power amps, lots of power, low weight.
