phil.mcglassup Posted November 20, 2010 Share Posted November 20, 2010 Hi All, I am in need of a proper set of speaker cables, but nothing too fancy, for my Trace Elliot rig which comprises amp, 1x15 and 4x10 cabs. Is it best to use the XLR sockets or the standard jack sockets? Furthermore, I'd prefer the plugs to be right angled if possible. I've done a fair bit of searching but can't find any. I'm sure there will be a good 30 people after me that post the same thing! I'm pretty sure that XLR sockets for these things are more or less redundant now but it might still be a better option than just standard jacks. Have both instrument and speaker leads from him, the quality is far superior to that of regular shop bought leads, yet the prices are the same. Ended up with cables that look like they could be plugged directly into the national grid - over the last few months I have been gradually changing the cheap crap I started off getting (that is now inevitably failing) with stuff from Dave and it has been superb. dmccombe7 Posted November 22, 2010 Share Posted November 22, 2010 Took advice from BASSCHAT and bought new speaker cable from OBBM. Ordered and delivered in record time. Neutrik jacks on Klotz cable. You could tow your car with this cable - excellent. Service from them is by far the best I've had from any supplier. Sound quality is significantly improved over cheaper leads. My Warwick IV Amp has both Speakon & XLR - no jacks at all. I'm using the jack cable as a jumper between cabs. I already have speakon to first cab. Even with this set up the sound greatly improved.
