1.
The Xotic..? Yes, I looked at that... seems very good. As usual I'm undecided
Yeah. I think they are are great
2.
That's what has put me off dedicated 'distortion' pedals before. I like my tone the way it is, I just want something that's going to provide a bit of an edge at certain points... not 'fuzz' ...or even 'grit' really, more like... 'slightly compressed with extra detail and sustain with a bit of warm break-up.' Hard to explain. I like the way my Fusion does it - you can have two channels set up, one with extra gain to push the valves - and toggle between them with the supplied footswitch. This sounds great, but I just don't like the way the switch actually changes between the channels, so...
I don't think you'll really know what you want until you've got it. By nature drives compress but I would try a a really squashed compressor that's been turned up a bit to much to clip the fusions input, and see how that goes.
3. My vote is for the BB preamp. Great versatile thing, drops the extreme lows and highs a bit, but I only notice when I play through my headphones where the low lows can be heard. Can do the whole edge of breakup thing. However personally not a lot of pedals maintain the sound of the original bass signal, so I always have a clean loop in somewhere.
4.
I have a decent ( well gegarded ) pedal board with all sorts of modelling and I'l probably sell it. It doesn't do well enough as a processed sound So, in general, not a fan of a processed sound into an average processed sounding amp.. If the amp isn't doing it, or is too coloured, get something else, but I don't hear pedals doing that well... I take the point that they can be used for bail-outs in certain situations but not as your core sound, IMO.
Good point, but I'm sure there are those if us whose core amp tone isn't important and need it to be as neutral as it gets without spending a fortune. Also buying a 100 or so pound pedal that sounds amazing beats spending 1000 pound on a new amp you may hate, and don't want to lug around.
5. Our guitars brought a new combo the other week, I swear it weighs more than all my gear put together.
6. Not so much an update on this but just a nod to say we've reached a thousand visits on our bandcamp quiet a few from BC. We are just planning our second lot of studio time to hopefully smash another 3 tracks up there.
7. As above, selling because as much as I love it my new pedal covers its similar boost attributes I use it for as well as dirtortion tones I'm liking right now. Still have my first always on though lol. In great condition as it's always been babied in my board and during transit. Fantastic responise two band overdrive, from clean boost to fat tube and gnarly highs. £100 posted, comes with box Trades- interest in the 66 knightfall or nodded rats, or anything .
8. I got offered to go down and test them ages ago, but I ended up selling the bass they would have gone in. Disappointed that I didn't try them. Our very own Sibob tested them out in the vids along with the rift amps.
9.
This pedal was my second build called "His Lordship" and is a clone of a Marshall Guv'nor with a couple of tweaks to make it a little more bass friendly. This thing is amazing! I got it hoping for a RATM type distortion tone and it fits the bill very well. The mods to add a bit more bass was essential to making this sound great on bass. This has been on my pedal board since the day it was made and i doubt i'll get rid of it.
Would love to hear this, looks great. What does 'mode' do?
10. Every song I've wrote for the band has started on guitar, I find it almost impossible to start from the bass guitar.
11. I've used the para driver and it's by far their best effort IMO, due to actual mid range control but the sound overall was just caked in too much colour trying to get a big ampeg sound out of it. Now I use two 'preamps', two BB pres, one is always on overdrive, another for even more dirt. Now I even have a dual distortion on top of that too. I also have a always on clean blend at the minute. This only gets turned off for one section of a song and even then, only when I remember or can be bothered lol.
12. It doesn't say in the ad but this runs on the annoying 12v supply. I have a convertor to use the pedal with regular bass type 9v adapters tinier with daisy chaining that I can send someone as it's going spare.
13. GK MB200 is spectacular for its size and feature set, surprised how full sounding it can be, only downside for me is lack of a master volume
14. DR strings have been great, but the only reason I don't use them anymore as the dead E strings became more and more common
15. 5/10 I know I got ZZ Top and New Order, but the rest I had to guess. I didn't even know Coldplay had a bassist.
16. Echoing thoughts above . Do what you like, as long as you like it. Don't think of either as a preamp. I have two BB preamps, one is used as an always on overdrive and the other is used to stack on top of the first for more dirt, volume and girth etc etc.
17. Lots more on there for any guitarists needs. Amps amps amps, and some more amps. I doubt you'd get any more out of it than your current gear, baring you don't mind taking all your gear everywhere. It definitely could replace everything but it's not social convention at gigs to turn up with no amp. TBF, to be fair I've stopped using mine outside of recording guitar and bass for song ideas, been too busy to tweak the options etc, and as I still end up taking my rig everywhere a lot of the more useful stuff you can't turn the amp sim side off. Ideally right now, if I could get a dual channeled input I could at least do some basic drum recording too, mans build up some tunes for the whole band to use to lay back to, refine etc.
18. If they were 8 ohms I'd of ordered one, but I think the 12 ohm stuff is putting (me) others off.
19.
A bit of help/advice... Any had one these at all? I've been looking around at different sites, Fender and otherwise, and there seem to be some inconsistency in the bridge pickup location on these. Some have 60s, some have 70s. Does anyone know which ones have which and/or when they changed from one to the other? Cheers
The MIJ jaguar has the 70s spacing, the MIA version I think is 70s but I haven't seen one in the flesh. The squier versions range, since they come in short scald too. Hope that helps. FWIW, I loved my Japanese one, excellent build quality, preamp is a bit crap though.
20. Without having to consider weight, storage or portability, or it being too loud. An Ampeg 8x10. But unfortunately that's not a possibility. Meanwhile, the BF super compact, keeps on winning for me ATM. Every time I get a little bout of GAS I use it at a gig or rehearsal and I remember how great it is. I am thinking of getting one of the new retro 2 10 though hahaha.
