Well, I expected to be in the minority...I always am on here! I am currently using a Harley Benton BA500 and a Barefaced Compact and I am absolutely blown away by how good it sounds. Now I am sure that it hasn't got a lot to do with the the £200 HB Markbass rip off! And talking to a guitarist friend the other day we agreed that you can get a good sound out of an average amp and a good cab, but a crappy cab can suck the tone out of the best amp money can buy.
You do have a valid point. However I feel that for most people they try and get the sound right at the bass as some of the time I can't use my rig or I'm DI'ing anyway. Poor cabbage can make for a nasty meal but if the ampage is poor it doesn't matter much, if I use a amp I don't like Ill input into the effect return to bypass the pre-amp.

The Barefaced line are all efficient. I had a midget and was worrying about that tone:volume thing win getting the super12T. Alex said that the S12T would be just a loud as the midget with half the power going to it. Don't know how relevant this is.

I have no idea why manufactures insist on doing things lick combos and 2x12-2x10 cabs ho I had a 2x10 combo I used on it's side for the increased clarity and better dispersal.

I voted for the two as for me I like me and the bass to come through un-coloured. I use my rig as more of a PA than a bass amp.
The original 'Ray 5 pick-ups were AlNiCo pre '92, too.
But for a good while they had ceramic. You could just lift out the 3 band and install an aftermarket 2 band. Or indeed the classic ray 5 has the 2 band and the better looking bridge.

Ou7shined. You are 100% disgusting. If they find urine on a bowl of bar nuts, that have only been there a day how much urine, faeces and blood are going to be on a 30 year old bass? Count me out thanks.

Indeed it would be better if you went and tried them both. What's your playing style? Technique? Although; sharp? Funky? Look no further than a stingray 4H 3 EQ.
good suggestion but id prefer to be reducing what im lugging around, im checking out the genz benz heads next week as well as the GK mbfusion and the mesa M6carbine, i think that its worth seeing whats around and seeing if theres anything to be had from changing my head though it was mentioned to me yesterday that my SWR bass cab might not be best suited to my mesa head, so i was thinking a quick fix might be to swap the cab for something different....i dunno! im conflicted and confused i guess i just want a chance to have a play and see whats around :-s
Thats just one persons opinion though. If you like it and it does what you want then no point changing. Changing gear is expensive and often disappointing and should be taken on a whim on what some one says. I've tried a lot of cabs and even went as far as 2 orange guitar 4x12 all the way to a single lightweight 12. I'm sticking with what I have though now as it does exactly what I want from a bass cab. It was the same for my head but now I need something more comprehensive and powerful so it's time to change.

SOLD PENDING PAYMENT As title says. It's reached it's uses with me, looking for something lighter and more power with more features. Not that I don't like how this thing sounds or that it needs more power. I usually keep it set flat. The EQ is capable of a lot with out colouring the your bass, unless you use the filters. 500w, both SS and tube pre-amp. Weighs 2.97 kilograms and it could fit into a gigbag. Will get pictures up as soon as possible £450 posted, or £430 collected from my lair in nottingham. Less than a pound a watt!! There will be no more price drops on this as I don't mind keeping it a bit a longer.
Seems odd that they're producing the standard Squiers in a different config doesn't it?
Cause it's cheaper to produce. The bridge pickup should be a tad wider with the magnets further apart to accomodate the string taper from nut to bridge. Stuff like this does t matter when you have to sell it for as little as possible.0
Ah, no never seen Allen heads screws on any MM bass.
First time on any bass, ever, for me. So they are more than likely non-original, just hope I can get this sorted before rehearsal next week.
-
Well the E string seems fine, however the A does dig into the mute, and then the D and G are so long that there'd be no point having mutes there. They are best part of 5 mm longer than Gafbass02's Mark at bassdirect is seeing what he can do for me I'd would like to ask if anyone else has Allen key headed intonation screws?

I always thought the tone-wood thing was a bit flaky, now I know!
But Japanese is the new German. If he had have used a Lexus one it would be so much better. Interesting he used a Rosewood Fretboard. Maple would go so so much better with that choice of body.
Well both have great QC IME. -
First bass: Epiphone Thunderbird IV Go-to bass: EBMM stingray 4h Your bass: same again, Stingray 4H.
-
If I can't get some shorter ones then I'll have to. Robert! I wonder if you've got the mutes yet and have this issue. Mark at bass direct it's first he has heard of the screws being too long causing the mutes to sit underneath them and not the string. I wonder if the screws I have on mine are non-original.
-
Well a super easy and cheap way is right your preferred settings down for each band and then stick it to the head. But for ease of storing settings the RH750. But like you said, so many things to tweak!
-
Got my mutes, got my flats, however the ruddy intonation screws are too long so the mutes just sit underneath the screws!! Argh!
Me
Indeed it looks horrid. I'm cured of gas.

I saw a video of a 1982 G&L 2000 I think it was. In White. Also after an early sterling to match my stingray. Looking to try a tc electronic RH750 aswell. Too much GAS not enough money.
@Primebass.. Maybe I am not describing how awful the cabinet sounds well enough! Theres something wrong with the tweeter as it's not functioning properly.. but about the 4 10s that is yet to be confirmed. @Paul, Yeah my cabinet atm is 4 ohms, it's the 410Hlf. But I was thinking of getting an 8x10 or a 6x10 and seeing how that sounds with it. Does anyone know where I can get a cheap checkup on my cabinet?
Hmmm :/ Even without a tweeter the cab should still be pumping out some highs at around the 2khz mark. If you could post some kind of video or something I dont know. Usually if I have an issue I can't fix myself I just take it to my local stores as they'll usually check it for free and then if it's bust offer to fix it with a cost of labour plus parts.
