They had some boss tunes given that they were just kids. Lots of talent in that band. I still love the fact that they got that 'What the **** was that?' sample broadcast on Radio 1 every day for f***ing ages! Kudos.
Actually there was one talent,Ian himself, which is why he's now a very wealthy man living in the States and the rest (apart from Zac,poor sod) are working for a living.I had a hint of his genius when we were in a few of our youthful punk pands. And Ian was 26 when he started EMF,not quite a kid!
oh and one more - because i've got flat strings i've discovered a terrible desire to do this thing where you fret the note an octave higher on the same string and slide down into it. you know - a kind of fancy frill. i suspect that this is the equivalent of the pub singer warble, and considered fairly awful. ted
I do that all the time.
This... and this is why you don't want a harmful agressive hard-hitting technique as well....IMO. I don't know if you have this...but I see a lot of guys beat the hell out of getting the notes out and I assume it will come back at them at some point in time.
It does...ow. -
Ah, you're a forest of Dean man? Looks like a lovely part of the world. I've been to gloucestershire before (Cheltenham) and it was a great place, must get a visit round your neck of the woods sometime in the next year or 2. I hope to go to uni in cheltenham to study music production eventually.
It is very scenic, although it's full of water at the moment.. -
Reminds me of a conversation I had a while back with the drummer of my old rock band. She's a massive Phil Collins devotee, and now plays with a couple of Genesis tribute bands, while I've moved on to playing squeezebox for a border morris side. She was explaining how her kit was an exact replica of Phil Collins' one, and how the newer versions have the "wrong" colour hardware, or something. I suggested it was ironic that she was playing "progressive" music but was obsessed with historical accuracy, while I was playing "traditional" music in a band that's very happy to make stuff up when it suits us.
Has she shaved her head and poked her eardrums out too?
I had a similar problem. Well, i was getting pain in the base of my thumb, but my doctor said it was just a cramped muscle. So i just warm up more thoroughly now, and i haven't had much problem. Are you sure you are warming up enough? Also, like the others say, get the action low, and try not to fret so hard. It could be arthritis, see a doctor, or it could be a trapped nerve. could literally be 100 things. I've also started taking cod liver oil. My wrists seem to be looser, more capable. It couldn't hurt to try some of that stuff!
+1 all of this.I wasn't expecting my GP to take my thumb problem seriously, but he did.Currently taking anti inflamatories to ease what is likely a gardening strain.. -
Ooooooooh how did I miss this one? I was taught how to play slap bass by Ian Dench of EMF fame. Unbelievable but true.

Aesthetics aside,I've always found it easier to see what I'm doing on a maple board.Plus,I've always found maple to be perceptibly brighter than rosewood, but there's probably more to it than just the wood or the laquer.Just don't look at the little picture on the left..
Well the Monotron appeals because of it's size and cost! I'll probably get one anyway seeing as they're so cheap and if it doesn't work I'll end up getting a Microkorg like I've wanted for years. Dont suppose you know of any other decent synths of a similar size? Truckstop
Gakken SX 150.

Do you think this is a genuine 1978 Fender Precision?
Shouldn't there also be a screw right in the centre of the scratchplate? CB
Yes.Or more likely a hole where the screw has fallen out. -

I'm not buying anything from Tesco until they start paying their taxes. -

Hmmmm...An an owner of a 1978 Fender Precision ( which I bought in 1979), I would expect to see a darker patina to the headstock, flat topped controls and screw holes in the scratchplate for the thumb rest and ashtray, although it does have the holes in the body by the bridge. It's just too clean to convince me,and if it had a cosetted life it should still show more nitrocellulose darkening than this, and why Wilkinson tuners? I wouldn't buy it. -
get a marshall VBA400 and 2 4x12 cabs and sound/pound them into submission Do a Lemmy
I'd go for a pair of Ampeg SVT's with 8 x 10's,but same principle.
Black is the only colour that ever looks good on any shade of bass in my eyes.
Yes. Although shiny mirror is acceptable on black Precisions.

Beta 58 gets my vote, although I'm perfectly happy with the regular SM 58,or SM 57 for instrument purposes.
