  1. One thing I love about Holdsworth is how fellow genius players like Vai or Van Halen say they don't understand it. It is totally unique.
  2. He'll have it low to shred more easily
  3. I used to play this in a band at college. Great Fun. Yngwie's solo in this shows just hiw unworldly Alan Holdsworth was!
  4. He plays fretless on a lot of his stuff. There is some shredding on this I think.
  5. I think the mistake i've made is there is just too much going on and too much of it. What I'll do is take some inspiration from the next picture and put it into this and enter it next month.😆
  6. Thanks but mine is literally not finished. I need to write parts for 3 sections. Edit and mix. I just don't have the time. I've enjoyed trying tho. It will be good when finished.
  7. My won't be finished by the end of tomorrow. I'm out
  8. But which Prince is the best for metal?
  9. Mines getting there. Got the track laid out. I'm probably half way there.
  10. You've just analysed all my composition work!
  11. Don't know what I'm changing yet. I just have the form.......and a riff now. It will probably take me all month if I finish at all!
  12. Literally just after typing that last post and thinking about why I couldn't get anything from it and how I compose. It came to me! So there are some blue and green bits, then a big splooge of yellow, then blue- green. So the form will be 2 sections or types of sections. Then a big completely different bit. Then back to the 2 types of sections. The time changing up the side of the graph means I'll change some things as it goes along within the sections. Don't know what. Harmony, chords not sure. I'll try and have a go.
  13. I was considering doing one last month and this but I just can't do anything with them pics. It probably says more about me than it does the choices!
  14. I prefer horribly obnoxious, aggressive tones! Or jaco tone or duffs tone or john paul Jones tone or stu hamm's tone, or Neil Murrays tone.....
  15. Can't believe their career pinnacle hasn't been mentioned.
  16. Looking back he was brilliant for me. I'd ask to learn a song and he say no. He'd have me clapping to metronome, playing octaves against bass and snares in odd times. Spelling out extended chords. Non of the stuff I wanted to, but stuff I was really grateful for years later.
  17. It was 'Another Brick in the Wall' Not by choice. I had bass lessons for a year. The teacher was a jazz fusion guitarist but could play bass. He taught it me, then basically solo'd over it whilst I kept playing it. So used me as a backing track essentially.
  18. Love it. Bonkers. Right up my street that!
  19. I might join in the next one if I can get any inspiration from the picture. Couldn't this month.
  20. Brilliant. Ministry vibes but funky!
  21. Thank you very much. Hopefully I'll be back now I have more time and some reliable gear. Tbh I've only listened to this track through the headphones I mixed it on. Hopefully it sounds all right and not too trebley or bassy. I'll have to remix if so.
  22. Hi I started a new job in September and got an iPad has part of the job. So I downloaded garageband for it. I'd never used it before. I'd been listening to the original transformers and Rocky 4 sound track a fair bit at the time, Vince DiCola. So I thought I'd do something in the style of that. The original plan was to put some real instruments on it but as things panned out I could only afford the interface and other things now which I got at Xmas. By then I'd finished the piece. So I've just mixed and mastered it the last couple of days. Here it is https://on.soundcloud.com/229xNnWTCEDz6HpY9
  23. I bought a focusrite scarlett solo to do some recording on garageband and a lightning usb adapter. Turns out I need a powered usb hub too for it all to work. Sonive just ordered one of them.
  24. Nah, certain chords higher up the neck are slightly out, its not massive. That's why that true temperament fret thing was invented. Bit pedantic tho for me. I like a tuning wobble, timing and tempo wobble. It's what gives you the magic.
