Oh, there was also Vintage V950, but it's Sh1111tty heavy, and, though, I liked it a bit more than GSR, it would have killed my back in time..
I've still got my V950, and depending on your strap height the weight of the bass is fine, if it is at least above your waist it will sit comfortably and there is no real pull from the bass at all, I've done countless gigs with the old girl before I retired her and I can't re-call any pain brought on from the bass. Incidentally, compared to the Ibby's your looking into, IMHO, the V950 is one of the best 5 strings around in it's price range, for it's price you get a seriously growly work horse, that both looks nice and can deliver a great array of tones, whereas all of the Ibby's I've had experience with, all felt like souless, toneless robots.
  2.
Come on then, the both of you spill the beans!
A cryptic clue: If you come up with the rather simple answer, and depeding on your music tastes of course, you'll get it dead on
  3.
Dude, who are the vids of? Forgive my ignorance! Love the first one, really inspiring and humbling. EDIT : Dwayne (DW) Wright? And I completely agree about Alien3, it's a great film. Deep treatise on social alienation, bit like Lord of the Flies for grown ups. It's a subtle file that took me three times of watching to get past my expectations of Aliens the sequel.
The first is Dwayne Wright, and the second is Maurice Fitzgerald. And thats another person to the list
  4. I'm guessing either a Thumb BO or $$, and I've just secured a deal on my next Warwick as well
  5. Ahhhh gospel bassists, my favourite My personal favourite, Dwayne "DW" Wright: Andrew Gouche, his tone is just amazing: Thurman "Peanut" Woods: Keep an ear out for that last fill. Justin "Rafiki" Raines: Maurice Fitzgerald: Thats a few of my favourites, they are so tasteful and so inspirational, it's just all the religion jargon which makes it tad cheesey alot.
  6. Andrew Gouche and Dante Nolen.
  7. "Floater" by Every Time I Die, gets me in the mood quite easily, as does "94 Hours" by As I Lay Dying............brooooooootoool. But what gets me going groovewise:
  8.
welcome to come try it out if you want?
PM'ed.
  9.
It's a great system to have on any kind of guitar. If I could afford it, I'd get all my instruments "Feitenized"... I'm in the middle of doing an Open University course on the technology of music, which went into the thinking behind different temperaments and their relative "in-tuneness" (for lack of a better word). Really interesting stuff. Long story short, players could only play in certain keys or modes to sound "in-tune". Same instrument, different mode or key and it sounded terrible. Even now, un-Feitenized guitars sound more in-tune with some chords than with others.
So ermmmmm, so really it makes no difference whatsoever?

    Wal's...
Your Smith BSR5 had a barky grunt, my friend. I think Wals and Smiths are very similar in general character although there are subtle differences.
One looks medieval??
  11.
Hope you got it cheap mate, someone's scribbled all over the back of the headstock. EDIT: How does that Buzz Feiten malarky hold up?
Some bearded geezer to be precise! To be honest, even after looking at the website for it and everything I'm still baffled at what difference it actually makes
  12.
What a great pair of basses. So pleased to see that the MTD was all that you hoped it would be. Always liked a happy ending
They are quite the odd couple! I know man it really is great, and I'm just glad I got it before Randy-Hope-Taylor could put any money down on it! Now am I the 3rd person on here who has a 535?? Theres Ari and Gwilym.......

    MTD 535...

I'm so glad I bought this bass!! It is exactly what I'm after, and in the flesh it's even more stunning, the picture on The Gallerys site didn't show how figured the body is, and it's also spalted! The tones are wide and varied, and just the feel and the craftsmanship of it really is amazing, it is hands down, the finest bass I've ever owned or had the pleasure of playing!..........I want another one :brow: Have a looksie: 535 My advice.........get one!!
  14.
+1 Looks like a fabulous instrument! I hope you've got it or will get it (and the Kingbass) insured?
Definetly for Uni!
  15.
Sweet basses Josh!! how much did the 535 set you back?? it looks beautiful!! i really wish a could get back into the idea of a figured wood bass (coffee table) lol at the moment i like em plain but yours is starting to give me GAS
£2150 from The Gallery!!
  16. Got the 535 today and it is easily the best 5 string I've ever owned or played, and pretty much the best bass I've ever played: It is set-up just perfectly, plays like butter and sounds even better . Ohhh and here's my King-Bass: Naff photos I know, but you really need to see them in the flesh to fully appreciate them, I still can't get over the craftsmanship of my 535
  17. Status again +1!
  18. Make way for Cetera!
  19.
Yeah, it's good to have another Warwick again! My house mate plays bass too and he bums it, haha, if it was 5 string I think he would have already stolen it.
Hehe that bass was lusted after by all the guys I teach, it is a workhouse, but at least I won't be going too long without a Warwick!
  20.
Oh and does anyone know what the body of that Thumb is made from? It's from '99. Had fun cleaning it last night, reminded me of cleaning my old Dolphin Pro.
I'm pretty sure it's Ovangkol Adam, and an all wenge neck. Enjoying it now man?

    My 4.....

    Beautiful MM!
  22.
yeah i wouldnt really bother looking into his solo stuff.. What do people think of Tal Wilkenfeld?
Ummm for me, IMHO I think she is kind of overrated, all she really is to me is a fusion player, good sound and great feel but nothing I haven't seen other players of lesser fame pull off with ease.
  23. Nah it's a good sign of musical maturity, just take it gradually.
  24.
I know!! I checked out his myspace tho and his solo stuffs not that hot. A bit like boyz2men lol! I bought it based on the bass intro to Squeeze! Love it! And yes, missing them did suck!
Ah well his grooving is enough for me, any soloing would ruin it for me
  25.
Man, that dudes awesome! I specifically went to hard rock calling the other weekend jsut to see him (well, Danyel Morgan...lol) and every single train me and my other half went on was delayed. We both got there jsut as his set was ending. I was sooooo pissed off lol! But im sure he will be back in the UK soon. Does anyone know anything? But what can i say, Im a sucker for slap and groove. Cant help it! lol I think Danyel playes a 6 string but I dont know what make.. Gotta show the love for Tal Wilkenfeld too, being a girl and all!
Now that just sucks worse than Ricky Gervais!! Danyel played Modulus basses for a while, it might of been his Qauntum 6 he used exclusively on Un-Classified, because otherwise I've been seeing him use Lakland as of late, still he is highly underrated amongst other bassists, I bought Un-Classified just by going on his intro to I Need Love Everyday, and I'm glad I did .
