This way overdue, but John arranged the collection for my Hartke cab and Warwick head and was a complete legend about it all, wouldn't hesitate to deal with again, or to play a game of water polo for that matter.

My rig as it stands today: Thanks again Barrie!

I've only recently sold my King Bass, but I bought it with the same curiosities as you, and I was pleasently suprised with the results. It is a versatile bass, it does a pretty damn convincing P-Bass thump all the way to a very honky jazz like tone, and with the mid cut/boost switch, the tones are many and varied and could be easily used in other live situations other than Level 42 tribute gigs. And seeing as you have a Epifani rig, you'd have even more tones to play with.
5 strings are also good if you use horn friendly keys like Bb and Eb.
+1. You see, the Ferret is niiiiice.

As suggested, just try using the low B for the lower octave instead, you may find it fills out the sound of a song, they sonically demand attention when used right. I've really been getting use to mine lately, well mines a half step down, but nonetheless I can't resist to use it when the times right. I'm probally not the only one who gets a bit annoyed when people say "Ohhh 5 string's are only for lazy metal bassists who can't be bothered to detune, because otherwise whats the use for them".

TLC- Waterfalls A great line, hated it when I was young though.
Works for me! Haven't read the whole topic but I want to go off at a tangent. I have grown to hate Jeff Berlin; everything he says and EVERYTHING he plays. There is a trio version of his 'Bach' thing on YouTube - it is so lame it is unreal. He plays with his head and not his heart and the results are emotionally dead. His MySpace posts are excruciating. His dress sense is worse than mine and that is saying something but, hey, I am not out there in public like he is. His moustache makes him look like an ex-70s porn star and his signature basses are pitiful. His Norah Jones duets are so cringeworthy it is astonishing and his efforts at self promotion are so transparent he wouldn't be out of place on Celebrity Big Brother. I am even getting worrried that I feel this strongly about a dork! I have no strong feelings about ANY other players but he is really getting on my t**s lately. Or is it just me?
Bilbo you are the inspiration to the notion Maybe you just to love to hate him alone, you may dislike some others but hating Jeff Berlin is just so much more fun because you've been following him for so long. -
Well my 'coffee-table bass' Shuke has received quite a few direct hits so far... you can borrow a couple of those broadsides if it'll give you a complete set? Cool idea, although I'm not overkeen on champers and the chocs are very fattening.
Fine, a pint of OJ and a 20oz Steak New Yorker!
"I like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain......" Come on over Rich, I'll bring my Shuks and see if we can add him to the Shuker Fan club proper tidy like ...
And I'll see if I can't get you 2 to sell yours for an MTD
+1. All I need now is for someone to have a pop at Status, Focusrite and Crown and I'll have the full set too! C'mon Kev (or Josh), you know you want to.
I've had a King Bass and they are great basses, just not for me, the same for S2's, Empathie's etc etc etc... If they all play as good as a King Bass and if ever the want for a Status brings me down with a severe case of man flu then I won't hesitate to get another. I haven't had any experience with Focusrite and Crown though Rich, and if their both preamps or something then I doubt I will, but I'm sure they do their job! Ohhhh where are my manners, Yamaha BB's have never done anything for me, they just look and feel awkward, though no problems whatsoever with RBX's or TRB's. -
those violin basses. i just don't get it. saw one a few days back going for stupid money in a local shop....the body was ugly, the headstock was literally the ugliest one i've ever seen, the string spacing was about 10mm and was the same at the nut as the bridge....and all that for only a small fortune!
And they sound just as bad. -

I guess there's still time...
Ooooo thanks for reminding me Sarah! Wooden or Exotic knobs just ruin the overall look of a bass, and in some add character. Shine are just cheap basses, some good and some bad. Laney amps, the ones I've played were as bad as Ashdowns. -
I've so far been underwhelmed by Shuker basses. Sure - they're nicely made and sound nice but I just can't get excited about them at all. Lots of people are obsessed with them on here, and i'm really not understanding them. I suppose the same can be said for some other UK custom makers so it isn't just Shuker..
I'd give you a hug for that Machines! A brave man Ill also add, that Overwaters, some Sei's, ACG's, also don't ever get me thinking about having one.
