1. I always loved those roller tone controls. I thought they'd have been more popular, unless they're patented.
2.
I think Peter Collins (Rush producer, amongst others) introduced Geddy Lee to the Wal, and thus began a new phase of tone for said bass player. Dire straits bassist also used one (if he hasn't been mentioned) and Rob Burns (TV sessions etc and tutor at basstech) used them extensively. they are fab!
This is correct. Peter favoured them as he had come straight from the English pop scene where they were the bass of choice for the studio. He let Geddy use his which IIRC was used to record the Power Windows demo, Geddy bought a couple of his own and took delivery of them prior to recording Power Windows properly. Best tone he had ever had!
3. The last great Ibanez Prestige bass was the SR3006.
4. I've only seen a couple of Groove Tools 4 strings for sale in the UK. Bill Dickens played one in the DVD he made, it sounded good for what he does bu8t I can't imagine a lot of people getting on with that sound. His 7 string basses sounded very different. It's interesting to remember that Bill initially went to Conklin to get a 7 string bass because Peavey wouldn't make him one!
5. Kai Eckhardt is the man.
6. Realistically, I don't think there is a big enough market for these basses in the UK. 6 string basses are hard enough to find, add to that an unreliable vendor and you've got a pretty lame business proposition sadly. I don't think I'd ever buy one, just because I know you can probably find better 7 strings elsewhere!
7. The toughest stuff for me was probably working on some lines from "tears in Heaven" by Jeff Berlin. Rock hard!
8. Wow, you very rarely see these beauties outside of America!
9. There is nothing like a Sei bass to add a touch of class to a collection, there are some lovely basses on show in this thread!
10. Its a right load of cack these days. Gone are the days when you could switch it on and see something interesting. I wouldn't waste my time on it.
11. I used to love my Epic 5 fretless that I sold here last year. What a fantastic bass that was (it's making me long for a fretless now...). That was a bloody bargain as far as sub £1000 Alembics go!
12. There have been a couple of nice F Basses here recently. Not something you usually see on these shores!
13. Hell of a lot of bass for the price!
14. I've already made my enquiry I will be watching closely!
15. Very cool indeed, you're in a club with Jimmy Haslip!
16. Yes, I've always loved Hartke stuff. I was planning on getting a Hartke rig when it seemed my search for an Ashdown MK500 combo was flagging.
17. Does it give you Mike Flynn chops?
18. This item is now on hold pending a sale, probably on monday.
19. Thanks for the offer on the cab Geoff, but the MK500 has me sorted out for amplification. I am looking for a Kingbass Artist now, as I want to photograph them together and show off what a Mark King loving saddo I am!
Just had a go of one of these today, wow! Probably as good as any jazz that I've played
I'd say so. Thats why I keep buying them! IMO these are far better than the MIM things you get. The attention to detail is excellent, I love the period features like the smaller guage of fretwire (surely this is what gives it such a lovely tactile feel on the left hand?). The neck is nicely finished and is streets ahead of the slightly cheap, chalky feeling neck of the Vintage Modified bass. I don't have the thumb rest for this bass (unless it's somewhere in the gig bag) but it irritated me on the first CV Jazz I had so I don't miss it. This picture below is what made me want one, I like getting it out for the odd old Skool Weather Report song. As I've said though, space is at a premium and I'm currently looking for another top spec bass and I don't have room for six basses!
20. Love these basses (he recorded some Of Elegant Punk with one). Is there a cash price?
21. I used to dream of owning this when Mike had it. Still my favourite bass of his, it sounded 'the best'!
22.
What with a date stamp visible, That does not make you any form of expert if you can't spot that! My pre EB knowledge out weighs all parties involved Fender knowledge if that's the case Chris.
I've got to say Pete, I'm not reading this one particularly well. I'm distracted by Dragon Age II!
23.
How was he supposed to know???
As I said, I've tried looking at both sides of the argument. My legal view is that the buck must stop somewhere, for better or worse. Some onus must be placed on the customer to know what they are buying, if they lack sufficient knowledge then they may take instructon from the seller. And if the seller has done everything in their power to present the item sold in an accurate light, can blame be apportioned to them? Legally, it seems not. As I said, the buck most stop somewhere. OTOH, if I were in Alex's position I'd be angry and probably in quiet talks with the vendor looking for some resolution.
24.
That surprises me, as isn't this pretty much what musicground went to court for doing a lot of, but has just explained by someone (Alex) who has given the benefit of the doubt to the seller that they did not know that this was not what it said it was?
I think the issue with Music Ground was wilful misrepresentation. This seems to be more a case of mistaken identity by a well meaning individual. I'm sure even the Fender buffs amoung us here will admit verifying the age can be difficult even for an experienced eye.
