I wish Bass Direct got more used stock in, as I am looking to buy a bass at the moment. However, in this case I'd probably suggest that the blame lies with Alex for failing to do the proper research within the time limits alloted by law or prior to purchase. This is me with my legal hat on. On the other hand, if I were in Alex's position I'd feel quite pissed off too.
I think it was an odd decision for Fender to discontinue the Urge model. Hamm only went to Washburn for his electric bass after Fender chose to tale the Urge out of production. I'm sure the Washburn sounds and plays great, but it isn't the nicest looking bass.
Nah, I do think it's fairly ugly. It looks quite plain and quite cheap. Thats a shame, because the Urge and the Urge II were excellent and the custom shop models Stu got from Todd Krause and the Fender custom shop were stunning. I think a big part of the excellent sound of the Washburn is the EMG pickups in the Humbucker/Singlecoil layout. However, I'm sure loads of companies could have done that for Stu. I'm glad he has found a replacement bass he is happy with, but I just wish it looked a bit more 'special' At least he still has those Kubicki basses!

Reverend are back in the bass business.....!
Chris2112 replied to wateroftyne's topic in Bass Guitars
People used to harp on about these on TB all time, I always thought they looked cack. Very Fisher Price. -

Damn, Steve is still an awesome player!

I'd go for the Geddy Lee approach. Be supportive but creative in your own right. After all, you're not there as a stooge to prop the guitarist up.

Best of luck for a pass then, which pieces did you play?
Yeah, that Stu Hamm model is pretty ugly, but in fairness he's used a Washburn acoustic bass for ages now so it kind of makes sense that he looked at them for an electric bass after Fender made an odd decision.
And what odd decision is that? If I recall correctly, it was Stu who went to Washburn for a bass. Fender have done the Urge II tenth anniversary bass and the Urge was their first signature bass. Stu and Fender's relationship goes all the way back to when Fender bought Kubicki in the late 80's. Stu had been playing a Washburn acoustic bass since the late 90's/early 00's and built contacts in the company who offered him a new signature model. Stu started playing that and moved away from Fender. Please correct me if I am wrong, as I recall reading what Stu had written about how he got his new bass but it's possibly my nightshift hazed brain is remembering things incorrectly. As for Stu's new Washburn bass, it sounds incredible but I don't like the looks at all.
I wondered if anyone had heard of these when i put it on my list - Doesn't it make you want to pick it up just looking at it
It looks incredible, I could spend all day playing it. I imagine the cost will be very high though.

I'm definitely more of a Thumb man than a Streamer man. Mainly because I always preferred Spector basses over the Streamers. Okay, so they're very different instruments, but you can only play one at a time (unless you're Michael Manring).
5. Jerome Little, Xavier Padilla Custom - an ergonomic bass has to be in the top 5 braking the mould to fit your body/the way you play it seems a great concept so here it is at number 5.
I wasn't familiar with this bass, so I looked it up...wow! I paid £590 for my Thumb BO a couple of years back. Given that it was a 1999 model with a wenge neck and looked brand new I thought that was alright!
I think you might find the band's manager has something to do with that.
Or the fact that Mark likes new toys just as much as we do!

There is nothing else like a Thumb. I used to have a 1999 BO 4 string, it was incredible. Such a fantastic bass.

Yes, I think with it being Windows now it's really worse than ever as Windows is a dire affair. The Overwaters were just hanging up on the wall with the rest of the tat they had there and the wife was looking less than impressed as I considered a 'research run' for the purposes of the forum!

People made so much fuss about wanting a 6 string jazz, then they get one and hardly anyone seems to care! I suppose the price tag put a few off.

No, I only have a soft case for it. Add to that the stress of trying to arrange delivery around my shifts and you've got something of a headache for less than £200! I'd rather someone just come and collect it. It's not the cash I'm desperate for, it's the space for another bass. I've decided I'm going to buy another high end instrument and I'll need space for it. At the end of the day, I hope it'll be appreciated that I'm selling this bass 'as new', it is identical in condition to one you would go into a shop and buy, and it has never been gigged or abused. I've played it at home and enjoyed it there and I'd be quite happy to keep it were it not for complaints that my musical equipment was taking over the house. I bought one of these basses when they first came out and was very impressed with it then, and I sold it soon after in similar circumstances (I think I bought a new Status Graphite bass shortly after). All the same, these are fantastic basses and if you've need of a cheap, high quality jazz bass then look no further. They are considerably better than the Vintage Modified jazz basses that came out before them, I have also owned these basses and I find the Classic Vibe to be the better of the two.

Would you trust your bass in the hold on a plane?
Chris2112 replied to Clarky's topic in General Discussion
I would if I had a flightcase. I remember thinking this when I borrowed Conan's Status S2 for a weekend, complete with the original flight case. It weighed as much as a small country and was completely impractical for UK use (I can imagine the torture of gigging with it!). However, even if they ran the plane over it on the runway I think it would protect the bass. If I was ever going to be flying my bass around I'd probably get a flight case. -
They have a couple of these in the Windows store in the Metro Centre. The jazz shapes looks alright but they do look a tad cheap. One of them also appeared to have incredibly high action, but the shop staff were dicking about on an electric piano and complaining about customers that call electric pianos 'keyboards', so I just elft them to it.
WHy does Jeff Berlin, the 'greatest bass player in the world', only ever get cheap and nasty basses made for him? Is it because he is not a household name? I think so
Jeff's first signature bass with Dean was a fantastic bass. His new one, he's not so happy with and he's said himself because Dean wanted a more accessible price point and so cut corners. Jeff himself advised on changing the hardware and electronics in order to make it the bass that he wanted it to be.
How is it 'modified'?
It's not, but well done for spotting that mistake. I've owned so many of these Classic Vibe and Vintage Modified basses now The Classic Vibe jazz is my favourite of the lot. I've never felt it needed any modification, it is a fantastically playable jazz bass for very little coin.

Morning, I've decided that I'm going to buy another bass so I'll need to sell one to make room for it. The one that will have to go is the one I'm least attached too, and so it's my Squier Classic Vibe Jazz bass. I bought this earlier this year from Spacecowboy. It's the second Classic Vibe Jazz bass I've had and I can certainly vouch for their consistency. It's in "as new" condition. Since these are being sold for £320 new, I'll offer it for sale at £170 collected from me in Newcastle. It comes with a Warwick gigbag. Here are a few pictures I took of the bass this morning: This bass is now sold, thanks for looking
