The one in that shot is the ERB, it's not the same bass as the OP was making inquiries about.
Sklar was also the bass player on Billy Cobham's Stratus: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmX0Qc_hfrw
That's always the tune I think of in relation to Sklar! That said, I have Cobham's 'Mississippi Knights' record with Kai Eckhardt playing the bass on it and he certainly does a better job on Stratus than Sklar did.

'Wrong and Strong' and 'Astral Traveler' by Stuart Hamm, Frank Gambale and Steve Smith are incredible instrumental tunes. Amazing playing and fantastically catchy melodies. I've been in Spain for two weeks and the only music I have to listen to is the very meagre amount I have on my phone. The jazz fusion has really caught my ear.
High C. Because a low B on fretless sounds like sh*t.
You must have had some sh*t basses then because the low B on my fretless Alembic sounded amazing.

It all depends which one has the piezo pickups and circuit. /thread.

Love that bass Peter! I'd be asking to meet you halfway (again) had I not just bought myself a lovely Series II. It seems we both love Status and ACG basses! I'm still in love with my Harlot singlecut, it's definitely my favourite bass although I have been thinking of ordering a new one lately for fun! Out of interest, can you remember the type and gauge of strings that the Harlot had on when I bought it from you? They were very good strings!
Would love to try this bass, I previously bought a Stu Hamm Urge II bass as I wanted 2 basses in 1, a precision and jazz but sadly it didn't sound like either, very very bright and I would say more for slapping which I do not do. How does this bass sound compared to that? is it darker at all?
Indeed, and much to it's credit it sounds far better than either a precision or jazz ever could! If I hadn't just bought my Zoot fretless I would have been after this, since I love Stuart Hamm's tone - although recordings with the first Urge bass are actually very few!

The back is just a stunning...I'll post a pictureup when I get back to the UK!

Shouldn't you be sitting and fiddling with the controls, finding out what does what as opposed to just asking on here?

I am a huge fan of the 'finer detail' in getting your sound right. But is faffing around over the minutiae slowing you down? Sometimes it can pay to be objective and step back. Balancing the volume of the crash cymbal against the china cymbal might seem a worthwhile pursuit if your drummer fancies himself as Neil Peart but at your typical wedding or function band it's not the end of the world, especially as the acoustics of the room change once it's full of guests - sort out the minor details on the fly! I also favour being out of the room prior to guests coming in if I can afford that. It looks a bit sloppy if guests come in for drinks and the band is still traipsing about the stage and wheeling kit in and around the room. A little bit of soundcheck theatre can be fun but you don't want the guests feeling like they've arrived early when these things should be happening behind the scenes.

I quite like this one...the bass sounds great! The bloke who does these videos is obviously a big Jonas Hellborg fan and my hat comes off to him as I am too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcMajn9uzlc...feature=related
That said though, with my current set-up I get a pretty good approximation - G&L L2000 Tribute into a EBS Fafner via a Tech 21 Sansamp and the G&L cost nearly a 10th of a Wal
I think this was close the general consensus reached at Talkbass a few years ago. An active bass with two big humbuckers through a nice tube modeller would be quite sufficient to get the Justin Chancellor sound. Hence why a Bongo was the perfect choice!
Ohhhh.....I like that Peavey Tim Landers model.
Yep...you don't see many of those around! The pickup configuration was never right for me though.

To be honest, the overall mix for wedding and functions bands tends to be better using a soundman and a board. But this is more for the really high end stuff, for other acts the backline could suffice with some care being taken to ensure the mix out front is good.

Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a shot!

Flea using his flea bass in the new RHCP video
Personally I think the Wal on BSSM is is his best sound.
I'd usually support Wal but for Flea I thought the Modulus just had that edge. -
There must be a lot of faffing about going on. Surely that relatively simple set up shouldn't take three hours!?

I have to say I love these...the neck on this one looks amazing! I change basses like I change socks but I have always said my ACG Harlot singlecut would be the one I kept if I could only keep one and I doubt I'll ever get rid of it! I'd sooner trade my Status Series II, which is a rare enough find in itself. Whoever gets this bass will not be disappointed. ACG are quite simply amazing.

Yamaha TRB is always what comes to mind when I think of a good six string on a budget. I believe there is also a 6 string Spector on the boards at the moment for not much more, which will be an incredible bass.

If you're going to have just the one pickup, thats the place for it! Jonas Hellborg would approve!

Great looking bass! The home photographs make the headstock look really sharp! I see in the Status photograph it's a standard item. Lovely!
