Your basically saying they deserve credit for influencing others? If thats right then i agree. However, it's when you get people who aren't as educated who claim the likes of flea or McCartney are in the top 50 or w/e bass players of all time. When clearly they are not. That is when they become over-rated. For me anyway. Again i'm not arguing their impact or influence on music, but great bass players they are not.

[/quote] I don't really care about much else of this thread but this stuck out. Yes Anthony Jackson and Richard Bona deserve more credit because they're technically very good. They're very good because they've practised a lot more than most individuals. I think that deserves recognition when it pays off, which it clearly does with both of them.

No. There are so many on the market and around your price bracket the quality control differs greatly between individual instruments. You can either try lots out in shops or take a risk buying without trying.

if your a flea fan then surely a musicman stingray is the best bet for £650? my old one sold on here for that price or the SUB basses are incredible value for money, usually between £350 and £400. If you want to buy new, then the sterling range retail around £600. Ps. Didn't want to sound patronising but just incase you didn't know, flea used musicman stingrays in the early days and his sig basses have all been of similar design since.

when i was in my previous rock band, it was the p bass all the way! I have had a mex p for about 5 years now and after i changed the pickups, i haven't played a better one. Trouble with the musicman stingrays is the quiet G. I sold it because my jazz bass which cost 1/4 of the price was just as good but with a G string that was as full in tone as the other strings. Might be worth having a look at the squire classic vibe p basses.

i thought yolanda, tm stevens and especially doug wimbish slapped too much!!! I think the main problem was on the stands, where everyone was playing different things at once. The stands were too close together, so it became muddy and to defeat that people just turned up louder until it became unbearable.

i wanted it but cannot make it unfortunately. Im sure the OP has 100+ messages

only problem would be if the bass was knocked while on display. Say it was in mint condition but a kid dropped it and then you would have to take a chunk off your price through no fault of your own. How many would take this risk?
