  1. What’s everyone’s thoughts on this one? I’m not sure about either finish or P/G. I thought factory black would have come with a white/ mint guard and only sunburst or white would have tort… https://thebassgallery.com/collections/bass-new-arrival/products/fender-p-63 too beaten up for my taste and the sticker residue/ mark would really annoy me.
  2. Out of curiosity what are the expected marks in a pickup cavity for a 60’s Fender?
  3. It seems the seller and BD disagree on the originality of the body and as far as I know there’s no way to definitively date one, especially refinished? It wouldn’t surprise me if BD might be being vague on purpose to protect themselves.
  4. Instruments are still in demand but the idea of a shop has been hampered by the demise of high street attendance in general. Without wanting to state the obvious, the shops that seem to make it work are specialists where people will travel specifically and more likely purchase as a result.
  5. Think I had one of those. I remember it being a warm tone at volume, certainly too good for the venues I was playing at that time.
  6. 5,8 but otherwise nailed on for me 😂 I once played my fretless with a group of bass players and my intonation of the first position on the G string was awful. I just couldn’t get near the note. I probably play 50/50 acoustic and plugged in at home so if it sounds good acoustically that helps.
  7. If it was sold, market expectation is for it to be pulled apart for the pictures anyway? The OP has indicated he would keep all the original parts. Once back together, the prospective new buyer would know no difference.
  8. As long as you keep the original parts it’s all reversible! The reason there are so many after market parts is down to people “upgrading”
  9. Yeh it’s annoying but fair play for listing. I’m sure there’s plenty that wouldn’t on a rewound pickup. edit: just seen your similar post further up. Note to self, read the whole thread before commenting!
  10. Check out this beauty! This is my second favourite pre CBS colour combo after black with matching h/s: https://bassbros.co.uk/product/1964-fender-jazz-bass/
  11. Whatever you guys are up to in bass direct it’s working. There’s been some glorious bucket list gear pass through your website recently and I’m gutted I’ve not been in a position to click buy!
  12. Well I disagree with you but that’s why judges/ jury’s exist. In the poster’s scenario he could turn down the offer of the bass so as not to acquire any new gear… the point of the thread. Mean spirited, from a Scot, blimey! Agree it is just for fun. It’s a difference in opinion and no one is forcing the happy basschatter to return his new bass or leave the group.
  13. Nice story, but this is where it falls down in my head. The online mentioning that triggered the gift was the desired model. I’d say that has an element of choice, similar to you picking a guitar up in store. As above, no prompt as to receiving a gift but a prompt online as to what you wanted even if not directed at your friend. There’s still room for interpretation in the rules that allow it to be judged on a case by case basis. The jury has spoken on this one!
  14. If it’s the rules then fair enough. I think there is an argument on the unsolicited front as it sounds like it was prompted but I hope the accused enjoys his NBD!
  15. I’d say so. You’re only cheating yourself as you’re acquiring new gear no matter the price paid.
  16. I’m not sure, but Bartolini rings a bell. I just remember he was getting so much work for electric upgrades and repairs he thought what else can I do to improve the fenders. Quite a lot it turned out!
  17. Just the electrics from sadowsky
  18. I guess we will never know if there have been talks in private over the years. I suspect there is a level of endorsement/ sponsor to some of the basses they showcase.
  19. Plectrums on basschat? Send him to the tower!
  20. They made a 6 burner with humbuckers I believe. Not as common as the 4s though.
  21. Congrats it was a great price
  22. I’d guess because people buy them anyway
  23. I’m the opposite. Right up my street but agree with others that say it’s context dependent.
  24. As @Geek99 suggests the rhythm is the foundation and where I’d start if I had to again. I didn’t learn it well until someone started to write out rhythmic connotations. Once you’ve got rhythms move on to scales. Once you feel ready to read some songs, try and make them ones you don’t know so you’re not sub consciously using your ear.
  25. @Hellzero some great options there. Having heard several fretted carvins that’s the pick of the bunch for me!
