Audix OM6. Great off axis rejection for live use... and great for capturing all those airy highs. The trying the mics out is a top tip... if you can find them all in one place, as different mics can suit different voices better. The off axis rejection of the Audix though, is what makes it one of my top choices in this case. Will need better mic technique from the singer - but the extra gain before feedback and cleaner vocal feed into the desk would make this a strong contender for me. (If she's a light singer, she will need to be right on the mic and on axis if she's singing with a band). In a live situation, I would take that cleaner signal over perhaps the best sound (not that the Audix is in any way deficient - it isn't... it's a great sounding mic). With a quieter singer, you are going to get into bleed and the realms of feedback a lot quicker, especially if she is not singing right on the mic. Obviously in a studio where you haven't got the extra complexities of other stuff going on, then yeah, finding the right mic for the singer is defo something to explore.

Anyway... back on topic. Bass Direct.

A P bass is a bass that I loathe playing. I hate the sound of it in isolation. In the mix...? Killer. Just works every time!

What a ridiculous thought. If a business owner, or an employee is a c0ck, I will call them out. If it's not the business owner, the employee is there representing the company. What do you think would happen if Martin Peterson was a c0ck to his customers? Or Rob Greene... or whoever from these small operations...?

Makes for quite an interesting flow of opinion now - from positive on the opening pages to very much the opposite by where we are at now. I'm sure Mark knows what he is doing... maybe. I'm staying out of it.

Marcus is back at Bass Direct now.

Looks like Palmer ABO would do it too... for a lot less pennies... and includes LED
-
Radial Hotshot - you'll have to decide whether you want latching or momentary. Off the top of my head, I dont think theres a LED though (although that's an easy mod to add in)

A bazillion opinions in 3... 2....

Sounds fair enough. I always hard pan the drum over heads, gives a really wide sound - and obviously brings in a nice big of ambience to give a real nice wide sound stage.
-
I suppose you could get another XViveU4, and take each output into a PM1 (passive) for volume control. The real nice stereo separation comes when you mic up drums. I'm assuming that you only have guitar, sax, bass and vocals? A pan of guitar and sax with bass and vocals down the middle seems a logical starting point. If you have any stereo fx going into your IEMs, they obviously sound pretty amazing - (e.g. stereo reverbs)
-
I dont believe I have ever said that stereo is a must. It is certainly preferable. Hang on, you never said anything about being wireless. I was talking about stereo and the fact that stereo doesn't necessarily come at a greater cost.
-
I guess if people arent in the position to spend anything, then I guess thats why alot of people say "tried IEMS and they were rubbish". I'd hope that people are gigging with enough to provide 2 auxes and a P2 with a set of ZS somethings to at least try...?
-
...but then if you are running something ultranet enabled (XR18, X32) - then P16M is surely a budget friendly stereo solution?
-
A P1 can run stereo, as can a P2 (unbalanced). The real cost is how many auxes are available to you.

Did a festival at weekend. Rider in advance stated we wanted to have a splitter to be made available. It was. I guess it all depends upon the festival and the calibre of the sound hire in place. Appreciate that not all festivals will cater for this... but communication is key.

Never stereo on FoH. You could be shortchanging your audience if they are in the wrong place.

I think they were done by Gus for Enfield. Could be wrong…
-
I guess Gus should be thrown into the mix too.

Compact budget PA set-up to put bass through (without back-line).
EBS_freak replied to Al Krow's topic in PA set up and use
For those who are saying just add ear plugs - ear plugs don’t give anywhere the same experience as a IEM solution. -
I wonder if Geoff Gould would entertain the idea. I know Modulus used to have that dancing ladies finish that I craved. I seem to recall they didn't do a 5 string Jazz though.
-
If he's co-ordinating the wireless, he should be allocating the frequency. You can't randomly choose a frequency and build the other frequencies around it.... that's a sure fire way not to get intermod free frequencies! Bloomin' numpties passing for sound professionals.

Alan has clearly setup Google notifications on his name.
