1. Okay…. Weirdly, I've taken the top off of the head and had a scout -- nothing wrong, nothing loose, nothing out of place -- plugged it back into the cab and the horrible crackling sound has gone? The buzzing is low level, but the show-stopping crackle has gone... More investigation needed before the mystery is solved and Scooby snacks are given.
2. Good Afternoon, Yesterday I was playing a festival gig with my trusty Warwick ProFet 5.1 into my Warwick 410 cabinet which, up until now, has never failed me. It's had a bit of a crackle in the volume/gain pots, but I've given it a clean out and it's been fine. The problem started as I was setting up and I wasn't getting a signal from the tuner out into my tuner - no biggie, I've got a spare, at this time I also noticed a buzzing coming from my cab, this has never happened before either. The Techie took my DI signal out into the front house and this was working perfectly, but my cab (which as this was a big PA and was used for my monitoring purposes only) was crackling like I've never heard. In the heat of the gig the Techie is telling my my cab drivers had blown, which I couldn't believe, it's never been driven hard and is treated well. I've just tried it out at home and the gain pot is working fine, the other circuitry is fine (EQ, compressor etc.) but whenever the 'Master Volume' is brought up the buzzing returns and the amp sounds like it's crapping out... I guess I'm asking "what the hell do I do!? I'm booked every weekend for the summer and I need a fix" Cheers guys!

What's the condition? Age? Weight? Where's your location, sir!?
4. When my tax refund comes I may have this off of ya!!
5. Hey man, Thanks for the reply! I think what I'm basically thinking is lend a bass for a while to see what happens, then getting a new bass if we get anywhere. I'd rather not detune the Fender and mess around with it as then I'll be stuffed for playing indie pop when I need to. Who knows? There's too many "ifs" at the moment -- So I'll get back to you guys after Friday, if I can lend a bass before then.
6. Hey guys, how you doing?? I'm looking to change a direction at the moment and am going to practice with a new band on Friday night. I usually play indie pop in standard tuning with a Fender Precision but this new band play in C-standard and some in Drop B. What would you advise for this? A new bass? 5? 6-string? Bit of advice needed because they sound driven so if it takes off I'll be looking to go with them. Cheers.
7. I'm a cross between: Andrew Rourke, The Smiths Peter Hook, Joy Division With a a modern twist of: Tord Øverland-Knudsen, The Wombats (even though I don't like the wombats) Hunter Burgan, AFI (who always has killer tone)
8. Gotta be Owen Biddle... Not only playing with the legendary Roots Crew but playing on Jimmey Fallon every week backing amazing artists!!
9.
I'm a big fan of Logic for writing and arranging stuff but I've seen a full Pro Tools rig in action a few times and for tracking a band I think it's hard to beat - it's so fast for editing stuff it's awesome
+10000 tbf. It's pretty much the industry standard for a reason! I use the LE package at home, but I regularly use the HD package with CONTROL24 and love it!
10. tbf Glad you're enjoying it Lozz, I've been eyeing one of these up for some time! Although, I fear a cab maybe first as a hulking great Warwick rig is heeeeeavy and my back (at 22) isn't great because of it! Record me some samples with your MIM P and lets hear it
11. Cheers lads, I was tired when I wrote this and all my gear is at the studio so I'll give it a go for Thursday! Cheers...
12. Hello there, just a quick query; You can see my gear in my signature and I have a bit of a problem. My E string is very bassy. I play a lot of melodies on higher strings (think Andrew Rourke, chilled out) but can hardly hear them compared to the very hot E... It was the same on my old ESP bass and it's the same on my Fender. My EQ is pretty much level but I'm finding it hard to get all 4 strings to have a level output -- what can I do?
13. John Legend and The Roots Have a listen!
14. Thank you very much for that I usually use a stick pick and lots of welly... But I cut the HiMids else it sounds a bit "honky".... We'll see how practice goes tonight!! Cheers
15. Over three or so years at £20 an hour I think it's best just to be honest, let them know they need to put more effort in else they're going to achieve nothing
16. I've watched that clip all of three times.... ...I can't decide whether I'd do her... Her voice is so annoying but Chili's will take no action.
17. Originally there has only been one bass sound that has really blown me away; Andy Rourke on "This Charming Man" and as close as I tried to get with my rig, it sounds good in the band I'm in. But I re-he-he-he-aly want to give this new Wombats sound a go, with the Warwick as I can't afford an Orange one (boohoo). So does anyone know how I can achieve this sound through a Warwick Profet and a Classic 50s P?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZFEhi02Xfc
18. Exactly the same thing happened to me in Manc... We were on second (out of four) and the third band had theirs break the week before and the headliners were from London... It sounds familiar. I really didn't want to do it but we were contacted the night before the gig and it was basically off if I didn't provide for free... It's not Vman productions is it?
19.
Yep, must admit 'Everything Everything' caught my ear, too. The general sound of live music on the Beeb is still as naff as ever!
Is that the band that sound like the Courtney Love show? I mean Hole?
20.
You don't have to play hundreds of notes and flashy OTT slap riffs to write a good bass line, as exemplified by this (only using 4 notes in total throughout!)
Fantastic example, The Roots are one of my fave bands! Although, not in my current band, Hub is a massive influence on me musically, as are all of The Roots. Shame he's no longer the bassist, he's been replaced by Owen Biddle, and that they're now a backing band for Jimmy Fallon.
21. I actually bought this bass fromn Lozz and it's an incredible player, if that's your thing And he's right:
The 50s P - well probably the only real difference from my US P-Basses, aside from neck size, was no string-thru-body. The rest of it, in terms of quality, playability, and tone, no real difference at all. As Burrito says, an amazing jump from MIM Standard to these guys. I`d thoroughly recommend them to anyone.
22.
you mean 6' x 2' surely?
I sense a Spinal Tap moment coming on...
23. Sorry I can't help, but:
The Redundant Apostrophe's
Fantastic, just fantastic. Had we not renamed our band just now, that SO would have been in the hat!
24. I think if it has Jazz shaped body, it's a Jazz. If it has Jazz pick ups, it's a Jazz. If it has neither of these things but it used for the genre "Jazz", then it's a Jazz bass. I think if it has any or all of the above, nowadays, it gets the term applied. For me, personally, it boils down to:
There is only one REAL 'Jazz Bass' tho for me - and it has fender slapped across the headstock.
I agree totally.
