Didn't know they'd ever had bands there! Must be going up-market!
Not upmarket, it's still the same Main Street It was a once-a-year kinda thing but it worked really well, I'd love to see it be regular! Good crowd!
  2.
Where was it, Central Square?
Indeed, sir, it was -- do you know it?
  3. Wow, just got back from a show in Newport (not wales!) and it was bloody brilliant! Had a couple of badly organised events that had put us on a low and I thought tonight was going to be much the same! Got there thurs night to take gear/soundcheck even though half the equipment they said they'd have wasn't there! A few Skotti-tricks later and we're "rocking and rolling"! So today we turn up at friday 7pm (doors open at 10pm) and there wasn't a soul in the nightclub, we were the ONLY people, no management, staff or anything so we set up and think "this will be gash". Then we go out for chips come back and there's a MASSIVE queue to get in and ended up with a busy nightclub with people of all ages and drunkness dancing and cheering and clapping to all our tracks! Sorry, just had to say I was having a good night Over and out, Skott, (the one fifth of Honeymoon Fresh who gets detained at airports.)
  4.
I saw a band dressed as man-wolves. It was highly amusing and certainly memorable.
I saw a band called Hotbone which are a noise-duo and the guitarist wears a fox/wolf mask and the drummer wear a sheep mask (crazy as hell!) http://www.myspace.com/hotbone
  5.
Oh but that is ACE.
It is, I think they've played my town at a similar gig to us because I've seen that photo before!! I Honeymoon Fresh we all dress quite similarly, quite modern with a retro twist as most of our clothes actually are "vintage" rather than look it! The only thing I think sticks out is my hair, wearing tight shirts, jeans and boots is fine but having long red dreadlocks ruins the look -- that's what BIIIIG beany hats are for though
  6.
1. Being asked to provide a backline for all the other bands except the headliner on a 4 band bill, but your band are on first before anybody arrives. 2. When you are headlining, a support band will turn up, use your gear and then leave without so much of a thank you or staying to at least hear you play. 3. People not bringing their own gear, but feel the need to complain about your gear 4. People saying that they have no transport and thus couldn't bring their own gear even though they live round the corner and could fit it in a taxi, much in the way that you had to fit your 1x15 combo into the back of taxi, but had to pay £10 as you live further away. 5. Other bassists getting their girlfriends to ask me if they (the boyfriend) can use my gear, on the basis presumably that I will be so smitten with the girl that of course I will say yes they can use my amp!
This happens to us (me) a lot! I lent my old combo out to bands, just to be nice while we started, but our band is trying to get somewhere so we've spent a lot of time earning to money to buy some good gear and I don't want people using my stuff! On the other hand I've busted my balls to get my Warick rig to gigs in my tiny Rover to be told "we have an amp here" for me to look across at a tiny 1x15 combo that's falling apart! If you can't afford/can't get your rig to a show you shouldn't be playing that show. The money you pay us wouldn't cover my gear if some oik busted it.
  7. bump for the advice about Jabezclegg!!
  8.
Great, well I now have simply massive GAS for a custom 5-string Jazzer in Candy Apple Red etc. and it's all the fault of this thread. Thanks a bunch.
I've had major GAS for a year or so on a Vintage white Jag with red tort pickguard... Currently I'm saving as I'm in dire need of a good Fender (J/P/Jag/Must) for what will eventually be £440~ GASGASGASGASGASGASGASGASGASGASGASGAS
  9. Fri 5th March, Central Sq Nightclub, Newport. Sat 10th April, Q-Zone, Tamworth. Sat 24th April, Jabezclegg, Manchester Fri 21st May, Stafford Cricket Club. Fri 28th May, Middle of Nowhere Festival, Blithbury. Sat 29th May, Questock Festival http://www.questock.co.uk I'm sure there'll be a couple more to pad those out a bit but I just wanted to ask a question about our Manc gig? We've not had a great desire to play Stoke, 30mins north (a lot of metal bands) or Birmingham 40mins south (not really been there) but we know people in Manc (1hour north) so we're spreading our wings a bit. But I've never heard of the Jabezclegg venue that we're playing at, it's by the uni so I'm assuming that's their main customer base? Any views on playing in Manc welcomed Cheers, Skott
  10. Olympic white (or Vintage white) with red tortoise shell pickguard, maple neck. -- Ideal on a Jaguar! Or the same but Sunburst body. I'm just a sucker for a maple neck! Ashtrays too!

    Rack Mounted Tuners
Sorry guys, i should have been more specific with my question. First of all will it fit in the rack? If so will it cause any major problems with overheating with the ampeg etc?
It looks as if you have a 1U space left in your rack, bud -- so should fit
  12. I'm in Stafford so B'ham is a 40mins drive or a train away (when not shopping!) -- are the music shops there any good? I've been to "Reverb" it was quite good but I wasn't buying, we ended up there after a shop we were looking for (under the arches up the road, whose name I can't remember, sorry) had closed. This should be a good place to go, oui?
  13.
I'm 5'8" and I can reach a low C. If you're interested in a trade, let me know.
Sounds like a deal to me People don't expect my voice to come out of me haha
  14. I do like to do them, usually my voice (although being 6ft3 and big and hairy) is medium to high so harmonising is quite easy although the singer from HmF has a higher voice too! That said, I'm very good at impressions and can impersonate him singing quite well!
  15. This is gonna grind my gears now because I'm saving to buy a bass at the moment -- My dream would be a white (red pick guard) Jaguar but I'm realistically looking at a Jazz or P! My ideal tone would be something like "This Charming Man" by the Smiths and I know Andy Rourke plays a P! -- I'm thinking P! Thing is I wanted something with a bit more range for when I'm not in the New wave/indie scene and do something more mellow music-wise -- I'm thinking Jazz. But I have no idea at the moment
  16.
If you want your Prawn Skips to taste like Pickled Onion Monster Munch, instead of buying some pickled onions and chucking them in your bag of Skips, thereby rendering them into a vinegary, fishy mush, why don't you just buy Pickled Onion Monster Munch??
Quote of the century
  17. It is a fantastic price, I'm comparing them to a STD Jazz at the moment! Ideally, I'd like a Jaguar but I can only afford a Jazz! That said Andy Rourke had a Pbass....
  18.
The Sex Pistols. "The great rock and roll swindle" The low slung precision, lack of technical prowess, but plenty of swagger. The idea that it only took a rudimentary ability to be able play in a band.
The reason I love Krist Novoselic! Also similar, Nicky Wire (although he has some skills!)
It was probably Geddy Lee, & specifically that riff from Xanadu which kept me playing, but there have been a hell of a lot of others... Jon.
Rush are one of my fave bands of all time although I've never learned any of Geddy's work, I was a guitarist first so I grew up wanting to be Alex Lifeson (When everyone else wanted to be Noel Gallagher!) My biggest influence now, bass-wise is Andy Rourke of The Smiths!
  19.
You are likely thinking of the NS10's -- the only thing the two share in common are white coloured driver cones...and that's about it.
Thank you, sir -- I'm not going to forget that now!!! I cursed the day I did!

    Tuning
Or do as I do and install Hipshot D tuner in place of your E string tuning head so you can just flip to a low D and back really quickly and quietly.
How does that work? I've never actually heard of that before -- maybe I'm just old fashioned and tune via tuner
  21. Yamaha HS80M -- As far as I know, these are the monitors (all I remember is black and white yamaha monitors) that I was taught: If you can make the mix sound good on these, it'll sound good anywhere! They are in a lot of studios too, so can't be that bad!
  22.
Having failed miserably to sell my Tobias Classic 5 on here and ebay, I agreed with Mark at Bass Direct for him to sell it on commission. I shipped it, and as soon as he received it, there it was on his website with some great photos. The next day I got a call saying he'd sold it! I strongly urge anyone to consider this service when trying to sell a bass. Mark really knows his stuff with regards to how much your bass is worth and will give you an honest recommendation on price. And he sold me a great Roscoe SKB 5 to boot.
Glad to hear you got shot nice and quick with them Their site is a bit hard to use but if it worked for you then fantastiche!
  23.
I love this guy:
I have that saved to my favourites! No pretense, no cockiness -- just in his jeans on the street and plays with his heart (not literally ) -- Fantastic!
  24.
Squire is part of the Fender Emporium and therefore is/will/has been subject of shonky QC.
I'm so glad someone uses "Shonky" instead of "crap" or "fubar" Thank you for that. This does raise a lot of points that I have taken on board as I'm looking to get a Fender (£400~) and was wondering about Squire so thank you again! If it was upto me I'd have a white Jaguar and have done with!
