1. It would be advisable to grab a cuppa and start noodling... I'm having trouble myself at the moment. I have no problem writing the bass lines for Honeymoon Fresh but at the momebt I can't write my own songs... Guitar/lyrics/drums/bass -- the lot. My problem is a lack of inspiration! If yours is too may I suggest Youtube and watching some of your fave musicans play to light the fire a bit?
 2.
Lets think other musical styles that use Precisions: metal - used by loads of players (Geezer Butler, Steve Harris etc) punk - Clash, Pistols, etc slap - check out Forget me Nots with Freddie Washington on his P-bass Motown - Jamerson, Willie Weeks etc reggae - used by countless reggae artists, such as Robbie Shakespeare (albeit Jazz bass probably more favoured) I don't think P basses are confined to indie bands Mind you I am biased - I have 4 P-basses (a 51RI, a 70RI, a 72 and a 76 fretless)!!!!
I didn't mean one-trick = one genre -- it was a turn of phrase It's suit my band now down to the ground if I got a P but wouldn't a Reggie do more? Both active, nice looking, Reggie Hamilton has the hipshot d-tuner which would be VERY nice to have... I dunno what I'm saying anymore, I'd buy them both in an instant but I'm saving for only one....
 3. That's it... I'm learning to sight read... I know theory, if you tell me root notes or scales etc I'm sure I could just play them -- I just can't read off of the stave! You've inspired me to do so -- so thanks
 4.
I recorded a hard rock/metal album (mostly) with my precision last weekend and it sounded amazing! I hated these things for years but am totally sold on them now!
I love the look of them, I had/have my heart set on a Reggie Hamilton Jazz as it has EVERYTHING I want in a bass! I'm scared a P is a one trick pony as far as musical styles, though... Once I'm out of an indie band, what do I do then!?
 5. Goddamn, whilst looking for my next bass and wanting it to be a Reggie Hamilton.... ...I then came across this: http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/fender-p-bass/533 ** I've never seen something so gorgeous... Anyone want to lend me an active P so I can try it in the band!? **Only shame is, the don't do a maple neck on the blue/gold!
 6.
Apparently for the same reasons the ones on the Rickenbacker's do look nice but are a nuisance to play with, specially with a pick
The bridge cover looks like it's in the perfect place for me as this is where I rest the edge of my hand! Goddamn, need to boost the Fender fund now....
 7.
i have my own personal feeling's about religion...but that aside, i think its the religion and there faith that makes the music so good...the power of gospel blows me away more than most music i listen to..
Put it this way, if the middle-class catholics I know sang about how they loved God and their fellow man this much, I may have believed them as a child! I think it a fantastic place to play, though, and must breed A LOT of young talent!
 8.
Cheers Rosh, it seems to be a great site.
I use it a lot for tabs if I'm in a hurry (I can't read off the stave -- bad I know!) -- that and 911tabs are quite good! I like Ultimate-guitar because you can filter the search at the top to let just bass tabs show -- it's a cool tool! Glad I could help
 9. I have to say that religion is re-heally not my thing, but that's besides the point here -- I love the music, I love the atmosphere and I'd love to play in a band like that! It looks how being a musician should be! Fantastic stuff, love it!
 10. This is me (although my locks are a bit longer now!) And me onstage with HmF:
 11. My name is Skott Devall and I'm the bassist of a Stafford/Stoke based new-wave/indie band called Honeymoon Fresh We were formed as a four piece in 2008 playing neo-folk sounding like songs for a mobile phone ad (Listen to the song 'Nothing'). We shook off the stigma of this new-found scene and recruited drummer Ed Cracknell in early 2009. This gave the freshers the impetus to start taking themselves and their music seriously. Their songs once driven along by their catchy, sunny melodies, are now intertwined with an edgier, tell-it-like-it-is manifestation. Honeymoon Fresh are now playing the music that they enjoy playing, without pretense. Theirs' is a sound very much their own, with hints of the music that they love & cherish." Our influences include: New Order, Joy Division, Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend, Talking Heads (etc... etc...) The songs on our MySpace are a bit older/unmixed/demos so new ones will be available soon, so don't be too harsh on the quality!
 12.
Almost everyone in Hanley wears a suit. Shell suit, that is...

Fair point. But I think you are being a bit pointy-guitar-covered-in-flames-ist.
Two classic posts, Pete -- well done that man!
 13. You got rid of a sh*t band member and you got the guitarist to just "walk off"? Let me know how you did that, I need tips.
 14.
In the words of the song - If you chose not to decide, you still have made a choice.
Fantastic quote, excellent track. I prefer: "People who say they don't care what people think are usually desperate to have people think they don't care what people think." George Carlin
 15. With my rig I got it second hand at half the price and it's what I'm happy with sound and power-wise. My bass: I'm looking to buy a Fender Jazz (active) because the tone is fantastic -- looks are yet again an after thought. I wouldn't believe me though, I'm 6ft3 tall with big red dreadlocks, looks don't mean a lot to me!
 16. I think Tim Commerford is a massive influence on me... Not in the band though as we're New-wave/Indie. I think Nicky Wire has some mad sounds "Holy Bible" era "Of Walking Abortion" etc... Krist Novoselic, "Bleach" era "Blew" and "Sifting"
 17.
I'm guessing there's some people on here that're either in huge bands that only plays large dedicated venues or they're in function bands who're the only bands playing most of their gigs.
I think this is true, we played Night & Day in Manc on Wednesday and the headlining band provided their drums and bass amp (dispite my reservations and wanting to take mine anyway). So when I got there to see this tiny, crap Marshall combo -- I sighed. When I asked if I could changed the settings and he refused -- I sighed. If you're going to provide amps, you have to be prepared to let other change the settings to their bass and playing. I was more than happy to provide mine that night and was told "No, no no and no" I have little tip-ex markers in place so I know what settings I have which means others can change the EQ for multiband nights. Result? I sounded sh*te.
 18.
Email back from the promoter, venue still has full PA so it'd be amps and drums in case the other bands didn't bring their own.
I take it they've said the same to the other bands too? (To bring their own?)
 19. I decided to paint it for you instead of actually laoding it all just to take a pic on a saturday afternoon! Gear Tetris for real, it doesn't look much but all this fits perfectcly in the back of a 3door Rover 25!! I'll wait 'til the next show before I post a photo!
 20. http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/p/paul..._shoes_btab.htm Try 911tabs or ultimate-guitar for tabs etc
 21. Have you not thought about a Warwick? Varied tones out of one of those babies!
 22.
Why not? Gordon used to play one.
I keep getting swayed away from my "Jazz-bass" fund by Precisions!! ARGH!
 23.
The Classic '51 Reissue (JAP) £639
I love that bass, probably wouldn't cut it in a newwave/indie band though
 24. This is bugging me as we have synth which need patches loading and this just means we organise the set so he can load when he's not playing another part -- quite easy to fix! We also have a glockenspiel in our set which alternates between the keys player and the guitarist but they were slow switching between songs so we had organise where we physically stood onstage -- problem solved. Our vocalist now talks/plugs between songs -- problem solved The one we can't solve is our guitarist being a dumb-ass and not even having a tuner, spare lead, extension cable, spare guitar etc. -- This leaves an uncomfortable pause between songs (we have one that's drop D) as he can't even mute, he has to tune by ear -- loudly. /rantover
