1. Yes................................ you're being thick.
 2.
Would it be ok to add a 4 Ohm Cab to a MarkBass MiniMark? The MarkBass Combo says 8 Ohm min' - I am thinking that the 4 Ohm is greater than 8 Ohm - but just checking in case. Would this type of pairing harm the extension cab or amp in the long term?
I've no experience of these, but I do know that 4 ohms is less than 8 ohms. If it says '8 ohms minimum', you can't do it and could damage your amp.
 3.
Just be grateful he doesn't live next door!
Intriguing......
 4.
Mixing cabs can cause phase cancellation at some frequencies, meaning the cabs are cancelling each other out at those frequencies.
This is true, but phase cancellation occurs with any two cabs whether or not they have different speakers. Or any individual cab containing more than one of the same type of speaker.
 5. It's bit of an abortion. It won't work as a bass cab because of the open back.
 6.
Who was this bass_ferret chap and why was he banned?
Yes, the people need to know! Funny, I've only just noticed how old this thread is.
 7.
To be quite honest Mr Bass Ferret, most of what you say is merely belitteling someone else, and thus to anyone with any sense, meaningless.
I have to disagree. Mir Bass Ferret has a point. Everyone is going to vote for what they've got. Obvious, innit?
 8.
OK.. thanks for that.
Well, if you disagree, WoT, you are allowed to say so.
 9. Now that we're already on the 11th page of effusive praise, I'd just like to observe that the power of branding is alive and kicking in the 21st century. A thousand pounds for a simple bit of wood and wire - just because it's made in the USA. Nothing wrong with the P-bass but it has less technology in it than a five quid box of Lego. They should be selling for about £250. What's the difference between a Squier and a made-in USA? Well, the Squier pickups I've measured (I've only measured half a dozen) were all underwound, and would produce a thin sound whatever you fitted them to. Funny that. (Yes, I know that's not conclusive, but I found it quite interesting). Branding. Market differentiation. Image. That's what Fender is all about. The Japanese showed 25 years ago that they could whip Fender's butt as far as product quality, consistency and price are concerned, but Fender had - and still has - the image. And that''s what people are buying when they buy Fender. Think Starbucks, Gucci, American beer. I thought you might appreciate a different perspective.
 10. Have a word with Al Healey.
 11.
Thank god someone finally pointed that out, it's almost as annoying as "cog"
But not as annoying as deja vous.
 12.
Anyone know if these will fit without modification?
It's impossible to see from your picture, but the Quarterpounder Jazz wouldn't fit into my older BB Yammy without opening up the corners a bit. It wasn't very difficult to do with a small file. You'll probably have this problem with any replacement pickup, as the Yamaha pickups (on my bass anyway) are rounder than normal in the corners. I had the same problem with the Vintage Duncan, but was able to file down the bobbins on the Duncans and use the Yamaha pickup covers. You can't do this on the Quarterpounders, though, because of the size of the polepieces. I can certainly recommend the pickups. You're not going to find anything better and the price is right.
 13.
People need to post their amp guts here too. Otherwise I'll run out and have to go buy more amps.
There was an amp guts thread a couple of months ago that was fascinating, but it was poo-pooed and fizzled out. Unfortunately, I can't help because my amps are in a rack thingie. Otherwise I would contribute with some internal pics of amps that use - wait for it - integrated circuits!
 14. Don't know what it is, but it reminds me why nobody but musicians and audiophools can get excited about 1930s technology.

 16.
allen keys are made in tool steel so get a really sharp blade...hope it all works ok i have made loads of one off tools to fix the car
I really didn't fancy cutting my allen key. So I ordered one from Allparts. It took a month to get here (with Christmas and New Year in betweeen) but it arrived the other day. A quick quarter turn and it was done. For anyone finding this thread at a later date, I can confirm that the 8mm one fits.
 17.
Couldn't work out which was better, Gb or F#!
What's wrong with good old G or F then?
 18. I've found these people very good - much better choice and much better prices than Maplin. http://www.rapidonline.com/.
 19.
I was driving it at about half volume and just over half gain with my LMII and playing my Stingray with no pedals or anything in line. Is this most likely just a component failure on the cab and a warrenty claim, or could I have broken it?
It's more likely to be a faulty driver or connection than anything else. These things are fairly simple to troubleshoot with a meter. If you'd broken it, you would probably be able to smell burning. Use a 9-volt battery across the bass driver terminals to check whether it's dead. There shouldn't be anything else (like a crossover or an amplifier) connected to the driver while you're doing it. If the driver fails to respond to a 9-volt battery across + and -(it should burp), it's gone to the loudspeaker graveyard in the sky.
 20. The Speakon was designed specifically to handle the kind of current that a high power amplifier can deliver. A jack was originally designed (correct me if I'm wrong) to handle low-level telephone signals. As the others have said, if you have a choice, use the Speakon.
 21.
I'm sure someone did some proper research on this and found that the pickups (and their position), string length and type of strings have the major contribution to the sound of a solid electric bass. I can't remember who it was though...
It would be really interesting if you could remember.....
 22.
The volume keeps going up and down in an SS amp. I've asked around before (it's been sitting around for a year while i've been lazy/busy) and it was suggested I replace the "output caps". I had a look inside and thought it might be wise to just replace all the big caps. Am I at any risk here? It's been sitting around for at least 12 months. Are there any specific "musical" caps or do I just get the matching values from Maplins? Thanks in advance for any help
I think you mean the power supply caps. Here you are: http://www.ehow.com/how_5511786_safely-dis...-capacitor.html, although I'd be surprised if there was much charge left after a year.
 23.
Well i think thats how much it is worth though because it is in perfect condition and i bought it for 150, so :/
I wasn't trying to tell you how much it's worth or how much to sell it for. Just pointing out that if you sell it on eBay for £100 you'll be lucky if you actually end up with £90. Then you have to factor in what your time is worth, because selling on eBay is a time-consuming process.
 24.
If they had been the bigger ones, they wouldn't have been for sale at that price
Aha - the penny drops.
