1.
Does it come in TAB?
I love the Bass Clef Trainer. Its fun but i'll never get to be a Grand Wizard as i have no beard
2. With the effort you put in you deserve the gig. Full power to you.
3. Just say that "all instruments can take a lifetime to master unlike being a tosser which you seem to have nailed" and smile politely.
4.
What, even more often than "I can get it £X cheaper on the internet"?
good shot
5. At the risk of being controversial i don't like new string day Too bright and clanky. I love the sound of strings after about 10 hours of playing. Then they sound cool.
6. 3 hours FFS! They obviously ain't doing enough gigs.
7.
i cud go all day. i shud charge.
Hi!!

Hola Elrub Welcome to the forum. Whats it like to have a really good national football team?
10. Hiya Les - do you have a brother called King? Nice bass you have there for a starter bass. Welcome to the forum. Jerry

Hi all

Hiya Jack Welcome aboard Jerry
12.
and what do we make of two part bridges a la warwick and alembic?
Now you are just being controversial
13.
The 2-Tek bridge does require you to cut a big hole through the body of your bass.
Sure, as an aftermarket thing its something i would never do - way too much of a coward. But as its part of the bass body i believe it makes a big difference to the overall tone.
14.
Always by ear. I start by listening to the target track at low volume while I'm doing something else (Basschat!). I'll play it maybe twenty or thirty times depending on whether it's something I'm already familiar with and how complex the line is. Then (usually next day) I'll pick up the bass, get a rough idea of the arrangement and attempt the bassline. I'll listen to the track about fifty or so times during this process. Then I'll separate the track into logical sections and listen very closely to what is happening in each, refining the line as I go and getting a handle on exactly what I think is being played. If I can, I'll leave it for a day or two and come back to it fresh. Inevitably I'll realise what I've come up with so far is nothing like what's actually being played on the recording. This is when I usually 'get it'. At this point I'll rehearse with the recording and run through it as many times as I can stand without going nuts (usually a lot of repetitions) so I can play it without thinking (this lets me concentrate more on the phrasing, the groove, all the 'non-note' stuff, if that makes sense... I find when listening to bass lines it can be useful to play the target track at varying volume levels, listen to it from another room or from downstairs, or even from outside - there is always something going on that you'll miss, regardless of how many times you play the recording at one level. I admit I am pretty anal though, and in some of my previous covers bands my forensic technique usually led to me being very disappointed with the crappy efforts of everyone else in the band, so be careful! Not a problem with my current band though, who are tragic geeks.
We must have been seperated at birth cos i am equally anal. The rest of the band have stopped trying to blag their way through stuff too as i sometimes learn their parts too! Sometimes, i need the score or a tab to work out the line but in the main its lots of listening and a little playing.
15. Lots of different POVs. I got caught up in bridgestyeria and bought some aftermarket bridges. They made it easier to fine tune the instruments when doing a setup but i was never really convinced about them having any impact tonally. The 2 Tek bridge is one that i think does affect the tone of a bass having heard heard a Cruise bass with and without. Of course thats a very limited survey of two basses Leos best bridge has to be the Stingray - its very cool.
16. There should be a poll option for £75 and under then I'd be checking that box Depends on the pub but if its murky like the OP suggested then it would be the Squier P - £75 Ebay bargain. If its more upmarket then something else would do the job but the Squier would come along as a backup.
17.
No, leave your coat where it is and get yer nob out!!! Tee hee :-)
18. I think the mag needs more boobs and scantily clad women. (i've already got my coat)
19. I have only seen him on a couple of things - one was a jam with lots of bass players playing School Days - he was pretty good but not outstanding. The other was at a Bass Day thing where he played along with a drummer and it wasn't that inspiring.
20. They look great. Really lovely. I'd love blocks on one of my basses...
21. Not read all the posts but welcome matey if you haven't already been scared off. Full power to you for coming on the forum. Respect where its due.
22. Donald Fagens Nightfly album has some pretty tasty playing and i have always liked Marcus Millers stuff with Grover Washington. Yep, its all middle of the road but the playing is clear, defined and tasty (all IMHO of course)
23. Good man Cameron. Thats what i am talking about.
