Hi, On the Salter bathroom scales no matter how I try, 3.9kg. They’re normally 4kg but lets say it’s 4kg for good measure. Cheers Geoff -

Slight wear on handle rubber, scuff or two on corner protectors otherwise very tidy. Excellent bass sound. Includes a Berg thick protective cover. You will note that for some reason, the back plate is stamped EX112S and not EX112ER. This is obviously a cosmetic slip up at the factory because the suffix S’ means short depth. Amp is in excellent condition and first class working and is very loud. Very well cared for. IMO there’s always been a tossup between the AH250 MKV and the SMX250/300. This model wins as it has the valve blend and is lighter. Head Specs:280w RMS/580w peak fan cooled head with active passive input selector, tube/solid state blending, pre-shape and 2 shaping options, 12 band graphic EQ with controlable level, independent Low and high compressesors, Effects level and send level with full range and high pass options, DI out built in, can power two 8 ohm cabs. Made in England around 1998 - the Trace golden era. Welcome to trial/test here in Coseley West Mids - you won’t be disappointed.

Brand new, few weeks old. Haven’t even got round to working it out. Includes correct transformer. Together cost £225 so there’s £50 off if anyone’s looking for one and knows what they’re doing. -
I’ve tried the Ashdown ABM 300/500 heads and combos which break your back. To me lacking ‘spaciousness’ in sound compared to Trace heads of the time. However at one point I owned an ABM500 chrome face and it seemed to be slightly better than the normal face, but it still went.

In simple terms Ashdown ABM sounds better than the Mag, that’s why they cost more. It seems that Ashdown suits the uncoloured Barefaced cabs. Try an Ashdown ABM with the old 2x10 and 15 Celestions and it sounds constipated. Put a Trace Elliot SMX on the Celestion cabs and they become alive. I tried Vander 2 x1x12’s and a single V15 with the Trace and neither worked out. I think they need a lot of modern power. However as they are neo’s the ABM500 might work.

Kev, The way I see it, keep your cabs. You liked the old Trace stuff, spacious, organic and tonefull. If you go the digital route eg TH500 etc I think you’ll be going round in circles trying the GB, MB etc etc trying to get the sound you have in your head. Your cabs are easy to drive and Im surprised you haven’t gone for the SMX300. IMO for a bit more umph go for an Eden WT550 which is very close to the Trace - you should ‘feel’ content. These Eden amps have the traditional transformer and circuitry you can see, easy to repair - although shouldn’t need to, whereas the class d stuff has a chance of being binned if went faulty.

Just realised the H1 is in perfect working order. The ‘power’ LED is purely for adjusting the mic gain. The LED does work as it should.(Should have read instructions properly) Price now WITHOUT transformer is £65 for a unit in as new condition - less than half price!
