Ok, nice one, standing by Geoff

I’ve been a member on Basschat for quite a few years now and since I discovered the site I’ve been chopping and changing continuously, at times I’d wished I hadn’t found it! - but it’s a great site. Unfortunately at the age of 69 it’s getting closer to packing it in. I’m still out once every week. I feel I missed some time watching my kids growing up with so many gigs and private functions with 3pm to bed, I don’t want it to happen so much with my grandkids. Anyway, experience has concluded MY ultimate gear: 1971 Precision 1998-9 Fender USA deluxe Precision. Eden 400 and Trace SMX300 heads. I’ve owned the AH250 many times but it’s just the blxxdy weight. Cabs: For many years Trace compact 1x15 and 2x10, easy to drive with various Trace heads BUT, they did catch the paintwork on the wheel arch of the car when loading, so I later went for a pair of Bergantino 12’s with horn/without, which easily plonked onto the back seat. Disadvantage is that the Bergs need a lot of power to drive. The Trace SMX300 wasn’t quite enough hence a trial of class D amps, 500W and above. I went through most class D stuff persuaded by the hype and tripe - never again unless I’m in church. I’ve tried neo’s Markbass cabs, Celestion neo loaded cabs etc etc but na, ideal for bloating double bass but electric bass na, can’t get em to rock. The Bergs use 350W Eminence speakers (80oz magnets), very nice solid full sound but too creamy for my liking, I like raunchy Celestion. IMO I think the USA stuff is fat, sort of pretty sounding but the Celestions seem more aggressive and give me a better feel with drive. (I maybe mistaken but I recall Hammond organs were made in America and a few made in the UK and that the American Hammonds had a creamier Sound than the UK ones which were more aggressive sounding. Whether it was the EL34’s in the revolving Leslie speaker amp or Marshall 4x12s I can’t remember). Bit late in the day now but I’ve ended up with the best of both worlds and it works great. The creamy Berg HT112ER on top of a small Trace combo with the head cut off with a raunchy Celestion 300w 15 inside. Either of my two amps can drive this now. The cabs are roughly the same size. Very powerful and shoves onto the back seat without touching the car doorway. picture of my setup to follow

All original with exception of one control knob which is a vintage part. The condition is sound but it has small dinks and donks all over the place because you're forever picking it up - and it gets played! Remember, an OLD mint guitar is generally a poor player and is put back under the bed. Part of the famed "JV" (Japanese Vintage) series of instruments produced from 1982-83 by the then newly formed Fender Japan, this Jazz Bass boasts the same USA-made pickups that were also used in the Fullerton factory Fender reissues. A bass that will satisfy collectors and serious players alike. Hasn’t been messed about with in any way. I’ve only needed to turn the truss rod just a tadge giving it a great action. If anyone wants me to take off the neck I reluctantly would for the pencil date on the neck heel but I can guarantee it’s going to be between Dec 82 and Jan 83. http://www.21frets.com/jvreg/JV_Registry.htm Slender 1 1/2" nut width. Thick slab rosewood fretboard with original slender vintage-style frets which are still in good shape. The bass plays cleanly. Has the original reverse geared chrome tuning machines. There’s a strong fundamental attack and acoustic resonance to this bass, and it's an instrument capable of great versatility, great feel, great warm balanced tone across the strings throughout. Weighing in at 4.1kg , 0.1kg above all JV PRECISIONS I have owned. New set of 45-105 Roto strings fitted. Welcome to try out here in Bilston West Mids before you buy - you wouldn't be disappointed - it wants to play itself Good thick quality soft carry case included - you won’t scratch your car.

Sunburst, all original. Small dink in the neck, bit rough around the side-bottom, slight scuffs obviously on the back, generally very nice. Truss rod fine but the new owner may want a pro set up. Reverse tuners. The last from my collection. Welcome to try here in WV149PU West Midlands before to buy. Geoff

This is a superb amplifier with no fault issues in excellent condition. The Eden WT550 is certainly an antidote to any of the 'weedy sounding' D Class heads that get discussed on BC. Ok, not all D Class heads, but this amplifier does certainly deliver note girth, 300W @ 8ohm, 550W into 4ohm and can happily power cabinets down to 2 Ohms with an RMS output of 750W. I have two of these amps and I’m hanging on to one at the moment. I’ve taken both on a gig with one as backup but I’m confident that the amp that I keep, wont give me any trouble (famous last words) The one for sale will come with the custom flight case. However, I find that the combined weight of the amp and flightcase is fairly heavy and at one point I used my daughter’s luggage trolley (carrying it of course)- just the job. The trolley is not for sale. You’re welcome to test here in Coseley West Midlands. I use a Berg HT112ER on top of a TE compact 15. Can post the amp if necessary. Geoff

All original with the rare ‘noir’ hardware, headstock and neck. Model PJ 555 http://brochures.yokochou.com/guitar-and-amp/fenderjapan/boxer/jp_03.html. Made at the Fujigen factory Japan at a time when craftsmen produced the E series guitars at a quality level that blew away a lot of USA stuff. Few dinks as in pictures. Frets and board barely touched and the finish has ambered nicely overall. All original apart from the switch which has been replaced like for like (original included) also the bridge pickup has been replaced with a Seymour hotstack - as Duff McKagan (original included which works fine) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=b7ygDslvxhs Includes original case with replacement handle. Welcome to trial here in WV149PU West Midlands.

“Smooth sounding, never boxy, full and articulate with plenty of deep low end, ideal for when the high end of a tweeter is not required.” Spec •1 x 12" cast frame woofer w/ 80oz. magnet, vented pole piece •power handling - 350 watts rms •sensitivity: 98.5db • anechoic: 2.83v/1m •frequency response: 40hz - 4khz •2 x 1/4" and 2 x neutrik connectors •impedance: 8 ohms •dimensions: 15 3/4"H x 18-1/2"W x 15"D •40cm x 47cm x 38cm Weight : 36lbs/16.3kgs Nice condition. Slight wear on handle rubber, scuff or two on corner protectors otherwise very tidy. Excellent bass sound. Includes a Berg thick protective cover. You will note that for some reason, the back plate is stamped EX112S and not EX112ER. This is obviously a cosmetic slip up at the factory because the suffix S’ means short depth. This cab is the 15 deep and not the ‘ S’ 13” deep. Also with the S model, the speaker is rated at 300W. I have priced for a collected pickup. Welcome to test/trial here for your own satisfaction. Amp is in excellent condition and first class working and is very loud. Very well cared for. IMO there’s always been a tossup between the AH250 MKV and the SMX250/300. This model wins as it has the valve blend and is lighter. Head Specs:280w RMS/580w peak fan cooled head with active passive input selector, tube/solid state blending, pre-shape and 2 shaping options, 12 band graphic EQ with controlable level, independent Low and high compressesors, Effects level and send level with full range and high pass options, DI out built in, can power two 8 ohm cabs. Made in England around 1998 - the Trace golden era. Welcome to trial/test here in Coseley West Mids - you won’t be disappointed.

In simple terms Ashdown ABM sounds better than the Mag, that’s why they cost more. It seems that Ashdown suits the uncoloured Barefaced cabs. Try an Ashdown ABM with the old 2x10 and 15 Celestions and it sounds constipated. Put a Trace Elliot SMX on the Celestion cabs and they become alive. I tried Vander 2 x1x12’s and a single V15 with the Trace and neither worked out. I think they need a lot of modern power. However as they are neo’s the ABM500 might work.
