1. Sold a bass body to Brian - really helpful over payment details (bearing in mind he's in Denmark, paying me in the UK) and great to deal with. Cheers Brian.
2. Just had a body delivered in person from the man. Thanks for going above and beyond to drop this off - wish I'd been there to meet you in person.
3. Just had a really good, hassle-free deal with Jimmy - bought my Seymour Duncan pickup, paid quickly by bank transfer. What more could a man ask? Thanks feller.
4. No worries - no-one is really an OT nazi here.
5. Since the thread's already been hijacked.... bluejay - since you're a photographer, how about taking part in the photographic 'comp' we have running each month in Off Topic? OK, back to your normal amp-fixing suggestions.
6. Thanks Len. Sarah was nearly 16, but in some ways I'm not sure the age makes a huge difference, once you've met them and know them.
7. Looking good so far. Hopefully the ex-WPD, ex-Gafbass parts will be arriving soon and I will be able to re-assemble the P again, but with some MM growl to it this time. It can then sit alongside the ex-Gafbass Johnny Brooke J that I've had for 2 years and is still favourite. I also have a late 80s/early 90s MIJ strat body & neck here, plus most of the parts required to rebuild it. However I'm struggling to decide what I really want to do, and as a result it's not getting started until there is a clear objective in mind.
8. There are some interesting POVs, aren't there? My father died 20 years ago (aged 51) but it didn't really change what I played, though sometimes the emotions might have surfaced as grief or anger in the way I played at the time (I don't do set solos, only improvise). When our daughter was killed 6 years ago, I put a band together for the funeral and a concert at the school in her memory. We played one particular song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=du0il6d-DAk) for both, and it is now difficult for my wife and myself to hear it without reliving all the emotions of the time. But as before, it didn't fundamentally change the way I played, though at times both sadness and anger would come out in the playing.
9.
I attached mine with self-tappers on my Marshall MBC 410.
That may be OK with a nice quality ply cab, but the Laney I put castors on was made of lightweight chipboard, and would have failed almost instantly. edit - spillung.
10. T nuts are easier, but if the cab isn't terribly strong then bolts with big penny washers to spread the load will be much better.
11. Casters can really make a huge difference to portability unless you have to go upstairs, if you don't have any reason other than weight for changing.
12. Wow - I didn't know the latest Macbooks had done that with their ports. So much to like about a Mac, so much to dislike.
13. Is this an old Macbook? Mine has separate ports for in and out audio. I think that for serious recording people would use firewire, although you might be able to find an external USB soundcard for it. Don't know about the VSTs for certain, but probably. It will almost certainly have to use 32bit - OSX 10.5 (leopard) was 32 bit, and 10.6 (snow leper) was a mixture of 32 and 64 bit. edit for typo.
14. Which model PU is this - there seem to be 4 different versions listed: http://www.tonerider.com/pickups/humbuckers.html
15. Now all sold. Precision body first, this is a translucent blue with a nice grain pattern that shows through. These can be used as string-through, being drilled and with ferrules on the back. The body was routed for a lipstick-size pickup, but this will not show with a scratchpate in place, and there are also 2 small holes through to the back for pickup adjustment screws. Otherwise in good nick. I'd like [s]£28[/s] shipped for it. Seymour Duncan Basslines SPB-2 hot pickup for precision bass (that's what it says on the box). The pickup is black, and the silver 'Basslines' logo has worn off a little, but in otherwise great condition. With foam pads but without screws in the original box. I'd like [s]£28[/s] shipped for this too. Any more info, photos etc, don't hesitate to ask.
16. I have an early 80s Washburn A20V, and it's one of my all-time favourite guitars. That does look nice, but I don't think I have anything to exchange that would fit your criteria. Have a bump on me.
17. Interesting - I've had mine a few years now, and it's a great lightweight amp that will comfortably fill a smaller venue with a very versatile range of tones. It also works well with my guitar synth (Roland GR300 + Godin xtSA) and much better than a typical guitar amp.
18. Yup, aged olympic white with a tort scratch plate.
19. PMed. Gary - I've got a Ryder bass in translucent blue that I'd be looking to to swap for this body - you can see the grain somewhat on that if you want to get an idea.
20. Buy one for me - I'll be your nephew.
21. Would the WHO have worked with Bill Wyman on bass? How would the Beatles have sounded if they'd had Jack Bruce instead of Paul McCartney? There's no right answer - only appropriate or inappropriate playing. However i think that *most* bands would function best with a bass player that holds everything down instead of wailing away with one foot on the monitor.
22. Very much chuckling here.
23. Looks good to me. Never tried the bass version, but the guitars have a good rep, and I'd certainly like to have one.
24. I played tuba in a Boys Brigade band from 11 to 19 - mostly Bb, although I'd occasionally be asked to take out a double Bb - amazing how a complete lungfull of air would disappear into that one, and it was almost as large as I was. I'm grateful for the musical start playing brass gave me, but it wasn't an inspiring instrument to play most of the time.
25. The UT100 trem is great (reputedly better than the Boss equivalent) the 7 band EQ acceptable and the CS100 compressor OK. The DC9 compressor isn't great and the acoustic simulator is terrible.
