1.
All of these substances will contain water, I don't know how much is significant from the corrosion perspective.
Compared to the amount of 'water' involved in playing a sweaty gig, I would suspect it's negligible.
 2.
No two of us are sane but we all like basses.
There is much truth in what you say.
 3.
I destroyed my band the other night
Good luck in your search for a new one.
 4. When I tried one of the older touring Compacts with my LH500 I was astonished just how loud the combination was. Increasingly, we are coming to be sceptical about the claimed power ratings on amps and cabs; but at 8 ohms my amp would have probably been putting out somewhere in the region of 300 watts. There is only one volume control on the LH500 and it never went above 5. With a very loud drummer and guitarist. And as all LH500 owners know, the increase in volume gained from turning the volume control from 5 to 6 is enormous!! With my Vintage (and an even louder band) the volume is never above 4. I may not understand the physics/sonics - but I know volume, tone and power when I hear it!
 5.
is the 1000 overkill though? I didnt know if I shoud try the 500 or 1000
The super twelve is 4 ohms isn't it? So you'll get the full output of the amp head. Is there ever a time when 500 watts wouldn't give you enough power?!
 6. By "gritty" do you mean mildly distorted?
 7.
What I would do: 1)Agree to try the song with the pick and proceed to play intentionally badly.
What would be gained from this rather childish approach? Try it properly - you might actually like it! As my old gran used to say "If a job's worth doing, it's worth doing well".
 8.
Am i reading too much into this suggestion. ? Cheers Dave
I would say so. Maybe the bassist in the keyboard player's last band used a pick and he liked that style/sound? There could be so many reasons why he would like you to try it out. It's good that you sound more positive about giving it a try now. I find it rather depressing that some people are so precious about the role of the bassist. Yes, we are the bassists and maybe the rest of the band should give us some kudos for that. But, on the other hand, a band should be at least a form of democracy and we should all feel able to comment on what the other musicians are doing? As long as it is raised politely and in a constructive way I don't see it as a problem. It can even make us better musicians in the long run. Anyone who feels defensive of their own technique and position in the band is probably in the wrong band.
 9. "Ideal Christmas present with only one month to go" type bump.
 10.
Yeah it's a funny old thing this rep system... you make quips all day long and you earn a massive rep score yet if you take time out from your day job to assist people to get their basses working or impart actual knowledge you don't get nowt.
My concerns in a nutshell. Well put indeed by the man whose name combines letters and numbers.
 11.
I've boiled my dead strings for years,
I normally find that ten minutes does the trick. BTW, stupid question maybe, but what the heck. Why bother with the "string cleaning tube" [sup]TM[/sup]? Surely it's the meths/IPA/white spirit that does the cleaning, so what effect does the shape of the container have? Has it been proven to be better to have the strings straight rather than coiled loosely?
 12. I love the carrying handle!!
 13. Is the seller still around? Has this sold?
 14. Stuart recently bought my Squier Telecaster. Great communications and very prompt payment made in faith. Thoroughly recommended!!
 15. I was about to post a similar question! Alan Menken also did the soundtrack for "Little shop of horrors". The bass style sounds similar to the Herc soundtrack. To my ears it sounds a bit like a Stingray...? Doesn't sound like Abe to me... but does sound a bit like Stubenhaus. Surely someone must know?! 16. In terms of quality and tone, how would these compare with, say, Squier pups?
 17.
Is it 200 watts rms? or 200 watts max?
How do you know he's called Max?
 18. If boiling doesn't produce the results you seek, you could always try frying them.
 19.
It's only a covers band...
As opposed to....? If it was an originals band would the answers and suggestions be different? If so, why?
 20. My brain hurts...
 21. I would definitely go second-hand with that budget. It's definitely a buyer's market at the moment, especially if you have cash. Trace Elliot gear is always available at a good price and delivers a huge amount of 'bang for your buck'. here is an example... http://basschat.co.u...-4x10-for-sale/ Great tone (IMO) from an iconic brand. Built like a tank. Heavy as a bugger, but easily powerful enough to gig with. You can't go far wrong at this sort of price. You don't say where you are, but you need to bear shipping costs in mind if the amp of your choice is not just round the corner.
 22. Thanks a lot! Wish my Trace cab sold as quickly as that!! Donation on the way to the bear with the spotty scarf.
