Bad form?? Isn't it better to be informed rather than misinformed? OK, read the rules and as a newbie didn't know you could send PM's. Think the 'mean' looking smiley was necessary - bad form that man!
I'm not sure that asking for an ambitious price at the start of a for sale thread is "misinformation". Sellers are entitled to ask whatever price they like on their own threads. If the price is too high the item will not generate much interest and the seller may well reduce the price accordingly. On this particular forum it IS considered "bad form" to question a sellers price in such an open manner. PM is cool. Perhaps the grumpy face was slightly gilding the lily, I'll grant you that!
£50 is a reasonable price depending on the amount of 'work' the seller says it needs.
Indeed. Fifty quid is a very good price if the guitar is a good 'un. But it does depend how much "work" is needed and whether you can do it yourself. If you have to pay someone else to sort out problems then it probably isn't worth it. IMO of course.

Nut has already been replaced, and bridge pickup needs replacement if the guitar is to be playable. Oh, and the frets are shagged too. Sounds like great value. Not.
I'm not a Pro
The OP asked about professionals specifically. Maybe the thoughts of amateurs/semi-pros should ber another thread?
I guess it's down to the individual and them having awareness of how it affects their abilities.
Yes. A lot of pontifficating on this thread.

Want A 5 String Bass But Which?
Classy.
Just trying to be helpful. -
Interesting idea! Maybe we should start up a "swap-shop" thread, so that if you are just a bit bored with a bass and want to try something else, you don't actually have to sell it - just swap with someone else for a while!! I like that idea. Anyone like to swap a nice fretless for my Status? Just for a while of course...
Overall, it`s what you put out to the punters that ultimately matters... it works better in my band.
Yeah, that's what I think too. Fortunately I'm in a band where everyone has enough maturity and insight to listen to each other and themselves. The total is more than the sum of the parts. IMO of course!
I don't think its a childish point though, if they don't notice any difference and you're happier with your sound then everyone is happy.
Sorry, I didn't mean that you were being childish... but that I would be being childish to take two basses to bits just to try to trick a bunch of non-bassists!! Much easier to swap the pickups over (put the wizards in the Geddy) without telling anyone and see what the reaction is... Hmmm, that might bean idea actually!

Want A 5 String Bass But Which?

I'm selling a Cort Curbow 5. String spacing is "just right" for me - not too close or too far apart. The body shape is not for everyone, but it balances and plays very well with a good range of sounds from the 3-band EQ.... £250? Can't go far wrong at that price as they list at nearly £500! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/56436-string-spacingneck-width-on-cort-curbow/ -
Try offering thm to a local school's music department?

I've got both (although my Cort is the five string version and neither of my jazzes are Squiers!). I like both, but for different reasons. For the money, the Cort Curbow is a very good, well put-together bass. So is the Squier J. They play different and sound different. Each will do things that the other can't. If you can afford it, keep the Cort AND get a J!!
