1.
they're rarely loud enough acoustically to be played without an amp,
I did think about that. Particularly for the lowest notes...
 2.
if possible try it out and see what you think
That's the problem - it's in Belgium
 3.
a stack-knob Jazz in blonde, WOW.
Nothing like a well-stacked blonde...
 4. Just after some advice here.... I have been offered an electro-acoustic bass guitar as part of a trade deal. I have never played one before, so I am a bit wary of proceeding! Is there anything that I should be aware of, or that I should watch out for with an acoustic? They seem to form a very niche market, so if I don't get on with it it could be rather difficult to sell on. That worries me a bit. On the other hand, it is a chance to try something different with no financial outlay.... The actual bass is a Furch 61 CM. I am torn. Please help me decide!!
 5.
I have had to consider this one, especially with those fab upgrades. Although it is tempting, I am going to have to pass as I've recently bought a 75 Jazz bass. Cheers anyway
No worries! GLWTS Lovely colour!
 6. Are you interested in trades for other basses? I have a lovely Fender Marcus Miller Jazz...
 7.
Buyer is welcome to come and try it
Where? What is your location?
 8.
Fit a J-Retro, then you won't have to sell. I'll bet that is a beauty.
He doesn't like Jazz basses sadly, as I found out to my cost... It is a lovely Geddy though, isn't it?
 9.
Any interest in trades?
Shall I take your lack of response as a "no"?

 13.
Thanks for the positive comments folks. I appear to be very much in the minority in thinking it's not the perfect bass
But, as many of us know (to our costs)... you can never tell till you actually get it in your hands! Reading lots of glowing comments on here can make you think that any bass is the Holy Grail!
 14.
Hand-built by Greg Burman in Newcastle in 1972. However, a quick visit to Greg Michalik at Guitar Aid in Putney and all is well. Thanks, Greg!
We do like our Gregs in Newcastle you know!
 15.
sold locally
Could you edit the thread title so that people will know it is sold, please?
 16. Has it gone?
 17. Sell the Compact and buy a Super 12T? Or trade your Compact for an S12T? http://basschat.co.u...condition-l600/ Or, just to add another option (sorry!) - a TKS H115? Not hugely dissimilar in size to a Compact, but much more top end from the (variable) tweeter. Also very light and very loud. I tried one in tandem with my Compact and they sounded great together. 18.
I am a long time lover of the Fender Jazz Bass. I love the jazz tones, especially the bridge pickup Jaco tone, but want my bass to have more sonic flexibility and an expanded tonal range, as well as more power.
I think you could maybe get both by fitting a John East J retro. No routing needed and you could return your bass to original condition very quickly and easily if you wanted to sell it. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/East_Preamps_J_Retro.html I realise this may not be what you want to hear though...
 19.
I have an always-on compressor on my board, but even when not using this, I don't find sound levels a problem when switching back and forth. It's a different tone, but not necessarily a louder/quieter signal.
This. Except for the compressor bit.
 20.
Our guitarist once had the wonderful idea of getting picks with the band name on them, we had to order 144 of them, they'd last about half a song before snapping, finished up chucking them into the crowd
You get crowds?!?!
 21. Pretty much anything! I usually nick them off guitarists...
 22.
This really is someone's ideal bass.
I'd love to bring this baby back to the North East... but funds just don't allow it at the moment
 23.
I do really want a jazz - I think they tick all the boxes for for a passive but by definition of what they are they'll never be able to create the modern bass tone that other brands have & that sounds so perfect at certain times.
Not true! My Marcus Miller Jazz has an active preamp and can do a heck of a lot more than a passive J. And it's for sale!!
 24.
a Jazz Bass, with a John East retro pre amp, can do everything I (and probably most other bassists) need a bass to do.
I know what you mean. I really like the Marcus J retro, but I find that I am constantly fiddling with it, and if I knock it at all it takes ages to get back the sound I had. No problem for recording, but a bugger when rehearsing or gigging. There is a beautiful simplicity to the passive tone controls on a J. I just wish there was a way of boosting the mids other than using an outboard EQ unit!
