1.
That's my yob bass right there. Envy envy envy......! Congrats.

Well, then you and the LPB are 7 years older than I am.... Do I feel awkward playing a bass that's older than me? No, not really.
I'd take it as a yob too - lovely looking bass.
 2.
Great feel good story . The bass looks fab....
Agreed!
 3. Kevin McCloud - there's a whole thread on him! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/188758-kevin-mccloud-bass-player/
 4. Phil Jupitus of Never Mind the Buzzcocks etc is a bassman. I hear he bought a 60th. Anniversary P bass from Reddog Music in Edinburgh.
 5.
I got sick of waiting for the JBNXs and put Toneriders in my J&D jazz... But my MIM J might benefit from a change of pickups...
Better be quick!!!
 6. I'm happy to report that I put this into my Fenix Jazz which already has the neo Entwistle neck pickup - it was a doddle ( sort of, there's loads of earth wires ) using the Kiogon Fancy Dan solderless wiring kit. I took it to a practice last week, and, without any prompting, both the drummer and guitarist complimented the sound of the bass . I must say I thought it did sound awesome. I'd happily recommend these super value for money pickups.
 7. If anyone's interested , the long awaited bridge pickup is now available again . I bought mine earlier today here - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Entwistle-JBXN-Neodymium-pickup-for-bass-guitar-/231141252091
 8. I'd love one. Way back in the day my guitarist friend bought a Tokia Stat (springy sound?) about 1984 red with maple neck, he sold it many years ago for I can't remember what. I bought a Squier Precision again in red maple & still have it, but a HP I feel maybe would've been the business.
 9. However - " This video does not exist" . Shocker !
 10. Nice one - look forwarding to reading more about it - I love this kind of thing!
 11.
My brain hurts! I'm lost, but I admire all you guys who are a minefield of information.
Me too! However I do think that stacked on top of each other does look pretty good. Yip, shallow.
 12. Sure it'll be fine. I've got a 2009 mim Jazz, and intended modding it, and did. With the exception of the bridge its back to original, because its great!
 13. I've used Paisley Freight a number of times, as recommended on BC some time ago. Absolutely no problem, £15.99 I think for next day delivery in the UK. They were used to courier the BC Relay Bass up and down this land, quite a few times, without a hitch.
 14. The neverending use of " quite literally", quite literally, wrips my knitting.
 15. We played our 1st " proper" gig with our new guitarist - it felt good to get my rocking boots back on. we played pretty well , apart from a spectacular"where am I what am i doing moment ?" Notables; 1. When we arrived about 8:30 a fella who'd only been drinking since lunchtime strikes up a conversation with me DF " Eh, you the bassplayer pal?" Me " Yip that's right" DF " Eh, who's your favourite bassplayer then ,bud?" Me ( Trying not to get too involved) " I don't really have one , I tend to just listen to the song rather than the bass" DF " Well , I'll tell you who mine is, OK?" Me " Sure , who is it?" ( Wasn'tt sure what to expect now, Mark King, Phil Lynot , The Bloke From Muse?) DF " Gerry MacAvoy, Gerry f***in MacAvoy!!" Me " Rory Gallagher's bassman , wow! , I'm a huge Rory/Gerry fan. Nice one. Good choice!" DF - " Yeah , they're the f***in baws , the way they played together, total magic , by the way" Me " Great nice speaking to you I need to get set up now. Cheers" My new best drunk friend then proceed to play a selection of Rory tunes on his phone, while we were setting up. Once we started playing he kept waving , pointing & giving me "V" signs. 2 - An old friend of the band appeared later on and sort of invited himself up to sing. Imagine an aging Scottish Sam Cooke. So we, having never played it before, launched into a shambolic but fun version of Twisting the Night Away. Later on we did an encore and he got up again to do a bit of backing vocals, and the bouncer, who'd seen him up with us earlier , tried, unsuccessfully , to get him off the stage, despite us signalling that it was ok. Idiot . It did kind of put a bit of a damper on it but we kept going & won out in the end. Hurrah!!
 16. When I was 14/15 I got a nylon strung acoustic guitar & because my older " cool" cousin had Lp's of Free, Status Quo, Nazareth, Bad Company etc, I wanted to Rock! Guitar lessons followed , using my money from my paper round. However playing Ode to Joy, or Micheal Row the Boat Ashore wasn't my idea of Rock n Roll heaven. Two pals had electric guitars - played through a radio speaker I think - another pal had inherited his Dad's jazz drumkit from the '50's. So " If you get a bass Donny we can form a band !!! So I did , £5 well spent on a noname shortscale, banana necked, untunable virtually unplayable thing. Probably now a rare collectors item. 35 years or so later , with quite a few breaks , I'm still living the dream!
 17.
Have you looked at the Epiphone Thunderbird pro V? They look like a Thunderbird but nothing much else is similar - they are active so you can get a decent range of tones out of one. I had the 4 string version for a while and it played well and sounded just fine. Just thought I was too old and too fat to get away with wearing it.
Are you me? Or are there a few old/fat blokes? I had one too and thought it was cracking- sold it to a young skinny rock god type!
 18.
Any other brands to avoid like Katie price on a night out ?
Rickenbacker- obviously.
 19. Blackfriars in the Merchant City is a fantastic pub - great pub food & beer menu & atmosphere . If you like a good homemade burger/ fish n chips you won't be disappointed !! It's very handy ( 10 minute walk from Buchanan Street station/ George Square ) & just round the corner from Guitar Guitar. Music is always advertised in the pub (although i can't see anything on their website) I think there's a resident band ( the somethingorother Shakes) on a Thursday.. http://www.blackfriarsglasgow.com/
 20.
I like the coop own brand sea salt and balsamic vinegar ones.
Do you mean the sea salt and chardonnay vinegar ones. because they are without doubt the best crisps, ever. ( Sometimes reduced to £1)
 21.
I read the 'Why I soldy Ric' at around lunchtime yesterday - it was at 3 pages I think. To save me about 14 minutes in reading the rest, could someone please summarise the thread here?

Just repeat the first 3 pages
and also " ad hominem" every now and then - whatever that means
