1.
I kinda regret selling it on as well mate twas a great sounding head just didnt really get on with the 12 band graphic, still sounded ace with the valve drive on full with a wee boost around 300k. . . . . . . . . .
Same reasons I sold it and I liked it!
2. You're right, they were Celestion afaik. I had a MAG cab with the black Celestions in and I loved it, much better than the same cab with Bluelines which I have also used...
3.
If we get any of those gigs, I'll let you know and just a thought, but can I say we were recommended by your bands? Cheers Nik
Yes. Given Ben wants Tony to be his dep if ever needed I have no problem with that at all!!
4. Sad to say it happens all the time. If I borrow someone elses rig I will always offer a drink or two as a thank you, common courtesy. I've done gigs with my rig just used without question before and not a single please or thank you, inlcuding one asshole who almost blew all the speaker f**kin about with his fx pedals. Thesedays if it's not organised in advance then it doesn't happen as far as I'm concerned.
5. Haywards Heath - Bar None (or is it All Bar One?) Ah bugger, one or the other. We're gigging ther ein April off the back of a recommendation from the Crow's Nest.
6.
Apparently he used to be pretty popular up north.
Can't say the name rings a bell with me.
7. More info... The (original) all-valve V-Type head was 25kg, according to the TE manual the 1x15 combo was 30kg. I reckon this is about 18-20kg max but really don't remember feeling it was that heavy when I owned one!
8. It's probably about 18kg IIRC, not much heavier than my old Trace AH300-12. My V-Type combos are 32kg and 42kg (1x15 and 4x8 respectively).
9.
yup, Cass Lewis, or me, probably me actually.
+1 (I've never knowingly heard you play but you must be good coz you used to have the patience to cart around a massive Trace rig!)
10. If I had: a. the arms b. the money c. the storage space, and d. the musical need I'd buy them. But I don't. For anyone seriously considering this (really? are your SURE?), I bought a V-Type head off this dude a few years back, he drove down from Derbyshire to Gatwick and met me to hand it over, for the princely sum of £10. Good guy, very interesting stories!
11. Bump for Rich, sadly can't get this at the mo so someone else should snap it up!
12. Not bad thanks, got an interesting little project on the go at the moment which I'll keep you in the loop about before unveiling to the wider world You doing ok?
13. This has come up before, but I can't find it right now... Personally, I wanted a Status neck, PUps and hardware and their version of the Jazz shape is a bit sleeker and sexier (IMHO). Can't talk for anyone else tho. EDIT: plus 1 to bass_ferret's comments too
14. Nik, try Fastway Couriers for cheap shipping, they beat EVERYONE on costs at my old company, by a million miles. And they were good, too! Also like to add I've heard this cab being used and it sounded great with Nik's basses and GK head
15.
Is there a drumchat forum where our 'other halves' chat about the same topics??
Would they be able to construct sentences properly?
16.
Our drummer has suggested doing this one. Reading your post has made me more inclined to learn it
Same here. Hmmm, maybe there's something in the water...
17. Yes, my Retroactive makes me all grinny from ear to ear! Actually beginning to find more and more that I don't like the Groove as much coz the Retro is so much better, but.... ah well, I need a five string and it's nice to play i guess!
18. Put it this way, I use combos at the moment (and love them) but I'm always toying with the idea of going back to a head+cab set up. Make of that what you will!
19. Oh, and I regret selling my Trace AH300-12 too!
20. My MIM Jazz V, I'd heavily modded it (Barts, J-Retro mainly) and it was a great sounding bass, but just not as good to play as my Groove.
21.
I'm not sure how much more information is about really. The manual for the preamp is available here. As for the date it was produced, the serial indicates March '99. The dates on the circuit board appear to be on the power amp section - I can only assume that Trace used the power section of an already existing amp, as the v types weren't announced until Jan '98. Value is probably in the region of £350, give or take a bit.
This V-Type was around 1994-1998 actually, it's the precursor to the V4/V8 and I remember seeing literature about them when buying my first real bass amp c.1995 I sold one of these for £370 about 2 years ago which was about £100 more than I was expecting.
22. Do you mean THIS? If so, call it £15 and I'll have it!
