Booked us a good year ago and we had all the normal conversations about liking about 2 hours to setup and sound check, once we gain access to the room, more if it's up stairs etc . Couple came to see us play elsewhere and were dead keen. Then about 4 weeks ago a "wedding organiser" got involved. "You'll start playing at 7:59, You will play until precisely 9:15 when something else will happen and I need your set list to co-ordinate with everything else" Eh? "Start at 7.59? Sure, if you can give us cleared room and unfettered access to the stage area at 5:59" "Oh but the speeches don't start til 6.45 so you'll get in at about 7" 7? wedding speeches that start on time and only take 15? ROTFL At this point I was wondering if the wedding organiser had ever done a wedding reception with a band ... "OK well we'll set up as fast as we possibly can but, after 15 years of doing this, I can tell you that it's extremely unlikely that we'll be ready to go much before about, say 1hour and 59 minutes after we gain access to the room ... oh and that's what I've been telling the bride and groom for about a year now, and it's not changed ..." It went on "Did we really need 2 hours? Could we play CD's through the PA whilst we setup and sound check? Could we come in before the reception to setup up and then hang around for 5 hours before playing (yes, but that's 4 times the normal fee 'cos then we can't go to work that day and we are very very expensive consultants on a massively huge daily rate - liar!)
I love that conversation with the hotels. "The meal starts at 5.30, speeches are 6.30 and you're on at 7 for the first dance. You can set up after the speeches". "Remind me the number of guests?" says I. "120". "120 people, 3 course meal in an hour. Speeches lasting negative 1 hour - impossible. We'll see!" I seem to remember starting the first dance at 9.... We ask for an absolute min of 1 hour but prefer two. Tomorrow we have 2 hours to set up and soundcheck before the meal, then we get to prop up the bar and eat food for 3 hours before the first dance
You have to make sure your website is easy to find using google
You have to make sure your website works properly too Ours is shockingly tempermental and getting worse with age; I'm going to get rid of all the flash that we paid someone to do coz it's not helping anything!
 4.
In my experience if someone is going to make a pratt of themselves they will do it regardless of any rules or etiquette.
That's the reason I'm coming along, to be the token eejit
 5.
I think the idea of a bit of scheduled quiet time is a good plan.. Anyone else agree?
Yip. Also, if we don't get anywhere with the masterclasses, we could have an amp room and a non-amp room?
 6. Dealio Good luck job hunting!
 7. Bumparooney. I have found a new courier to use so can deliver at cost
 8.
Same here. I miss the strings with a pick. I often prefer the pick sound, I just can't do it.
Me too, but I'm forcing myself to practice it more and more coz I love the sound. I'm getting there
 9.

Sexy
 10.
I'm going to build a 1x8" soon too, based round the Eminence Acoustinator NH2008. In a 0.8ft3 vented box it will go near enough flat down to 50Hz, but has a max useable power of 50W or so because of the x-max. Should be a nice practice cab though!
Cool1 I haven't finished modelling the 1x8 yet (it's a Celestion thingummy), I can't decide between vented and sealed but the wood it kind in a box shape already for sealed so I think that's the way it'll stay! The 1x15 is going to be rear ported just like the combo, like I say I'm literally copying the combo exactly. It's by no means a perfect cab and nowhere near flat (nor indeed does it have any useful output below about 80Hz) but it sounds bloody great and I like it
 11. I'm embarking on a compact 15" cab build very soon, bought all the bits from Blue Aran yesterday. It's an exact copy of the cab in my V-Type combo to make an identikit 2x15 rig First I've got to finish off Kev's 1x8" cab tho!
 12.
Oh, forgot to mention - it's also fancy dress
Maybe we should make it that you have to turn up looking like your avatar. I'm onto a winner there ( ), but I'd like to see you keep a small yellow bird on your head all day! EDIT: is it a duckling?
 13.
Merton, I think my car is lighter than your 4x8" combo. That's the one where TE were still using the depleted uranium damping, right? Alex
I think the new Aircraft Carriers the British Navy has commisioned are lighter than my 4x8 combo! Yes, depleted uranium is one of its USPs
 14. Ah you see, I said 4 flights TO Rhodes, I made no mention of the returns orignally! So yes, 4 flights to Rhodes, plus 4 back from Rhodes to Gatwick I still end up back in this lovely country!
 15.
wheres the bonus from work when you need one, and just round the m25 too.
I'm not in a huge rush so if you want it but need to wait a month or two it's yours
 16.
MB1. 4 Flights?.....Buy one get one free?
No, I just fancied flying there 4 times for the hell of it. Why not eh?
 17.
got a couple of strings though guys, nice one
Kev, I think I have a couple of spare B strings lurking round somewhere. If I find them I'll post them to you with the cab
 18. Another free bump for a cracking bass at a cracking price. If I could I would. But I've just bought 4 flights to Rhodes and the good lady would murder me if another bass arrived!!
 19.
Sheer bliss - we had a fantastic time thanks - looking forward to going back in October
Hooray! More holiday! I finally booked my first holiday for almost 2 years yeaterday, off to a villa in Rhodes at the beginning of October. It took almost 3 hours to book the flights because EVERY website had "technical difficulties" just as I came to pay. Think that meant the flights didn't actually exist but Thomson came to the rescue via First Choice...
 20.
...........and I see your EQ is set flat, I must take note . Bargain cab for that price. I'd have it myself, but I've already got one!
Cheers, hope you get on better with your rig this Friday
 21.
Was it this cab you used when I saw your gig at The Crow's Nest last month? Because if it was it sounding great! Good luck with the sale...
Certainly was - cheers! There is a part of me worried that the rig sounds great already so why change it, but getting a second cab identical to the first makes lots of sense after reading all the posts from Alex and Bill!
P.S. Nice bass!
Hehehe
 22.
Look at how light it is!
It's lighter than my 4x8 combo
 23. Bump. I'll accept reasonable offers
 24. Welcome back! Hope the holiday was a cracker
