1.
Hmm, I'd be rather surprised if that is the driver used in the combo since that's really a dedicated midrange driver. On the other hand, it IS a pretty small box. Perhaps the user who I got the info from was mistaken or, which I guess is just as likely, the spec has changed. That neo Beyma is about as powerful a 10" bass driver as you can get btw - if that's what's in the extension cabs then it's better than anything else I've seen on the market!
probably why theyre impossible to get hold of i expect
2. Identical heads (almost) and same speakers. I feel a(nother) return to thomann is on the cards!! that extra £230 would be better spent on a barefaced me thinks. and I quite like things being built like tanks
3. braced ply? looks quite thick as well. also looks like it might be the same speaker-starting to look like the best bargain around. thanks for going to the trouble of taking the internal shots neep
4.
I have a Promethean and I would suggest you first try it as a standalone for smaller gigs and rehearsals, then use the head with your 4ohm 212 for bigger gigs and 500W. The Promethean extension cabs are still available: http://www.gak.co.uk/en/ibanez-promethean-p110c-speaker-cabinet/48939 or, if you're feeling flush, a Barefaced Midget works well.
Cheers that's my plan at the moment. Just wondered if there was a smaller lightweight cab to add to get a similar sound to the 212
5. I rang gak they're not in stock and they're waiting for a date of a delivery so that might not even happen. Anyone else used a midget with a promethean?
6. I'm with you now thanks a lot it makes sense. Hence a barefaced midget will work well with a compact although they're different size cones? Anyone know what would work well with a promethean given that the ext. Cabs are impossible to get hold of?
7.
Mixing speakers with different motors tends towards a bad plan because it won't sound predictable. If you can try it out for free, do it, but definitely a theme of it not producing wyhat you'd hope.
when you say different motors do you mean different sizes? Or does it go deeper? as I can't source a promethean extension cab I Was thinking of an Eden 10 although the 8ohm is a bit harder to find which is why I was leaning to the 12
8.
I mean using the head as a stand alone head with the 4ohm ashdown LB or getting an additional 112or 110 to couple up to the promethean in its combo state to form a modular 2x10 ( or 110 and 112 together)
barefaced would be first choice. even thinking of sending the combo back and gettting a harley benton top and placing the rest of the money down on a compact! will see if the fabled promethean lives up to the hype and take it from there. still no advice on mixing a 10 with a 12
9. [sub]just ordered a promethean from thomann. after going round for hours justifying the spend i hit the buy button. im hoping to run it as a stand alone head with an ashdown LB212 4 ohm cab for gigs and use it on its own for rehearsals and home use. Im also wonderind if the addition of an eden 1x12" cab would give me a modular ballsy rig thats easy to move, might not even need the 212 if that works.[/sub] [sub]question is was the promethean worth the extra spend? or should i have gone the harley benton route considering the amps get a rave review?[/sub] [sub]come on promethean owners give me your views[/sub]
10. I mean using the head as a stand alone head with the 4ohm ashdown LB or getting an additional 112or 110 to couple up to the promethean in its combo state to form a modular 2x10 ( or 110 and 112 together)
Is the LB212 the Ashdown & is it 4Ω? If so, then no. The Promethean (& most other small heads) have a minimum load of 4Ω, though EBS & Ampeg do go to 2Ω. I'd have a look at the 2x10 cabs or if you have the budget, Barefaced.
11. Im still as confused as ever. Having had a 1x15 peavey for 20 years I was happy with my sound. even more so when i picked up a Sandberg basic as it sounded great through it. now that amp has given up the ghost and im looking at a micro amp (promethean possibly) and will use the head with my 2x12 LB212 cab for bigger gigs. The question is would i be able to extend the promethean with a 1x12 cab to provide a good sound (i have read on hear that matched speaker sizes are best?) using the full 500w? and would that be as efficient as using the 212? if so i could buy a single 12"cab and sell the 212 and as a final one what do people think of eden cabs? nice prices on thomann for their 112 and 110s sorry for the multiple questions folks
12. Just returned 2 amps to them in one box and will be charged 15 euro . As long as the box is under 10kg and not longer than 1.2m its 15 euro. not bad really as you can order several items try em out and send back what you don't fancy!
13.
I would have thought they would design the cab to match the speakers, not just throw in Eminence or Celestion depending on whatever they had left lying around?!
good point but then many many cabs are fitted with celestion and emminence. They're good industry standard work horses and perform well so perhaps thats what they did? I dont get the impression theyve just been chucked together.
14.
Nice work mate! Any chance you indulge me a couple of requests? Firstly, I'm interested in the volume difference between these two, as I'm sure you are to. Secondly, any chance you could compare the core tone (or flat tone) of these amps, and if they differ, how easy it is to mimic the tone of the LM250 with MiBass? Much appreciated mate and have fun! Eude
Ill do my best! just remember that its gonna be a bit subjective though. Im not expecting the Lm to be too far behind in volume as im using a 4 ohm cab. so far they both sound pretty good nice and warm but untill you get it alongside some guitars and drums and crank it up its hard to get the full potential. The LM250 seems a bit more rugged and less likely to be damaged. the sliders on the mibass look like they could get damaged easily. I also like to keep things simple and although the mibass has more ability to tweak the sound i can see me getting a tone i like and sticking with it
15. Well I went ahead and ordered both the mibass and Lm250 both have nearly blown my garage doors off through the LB212! Ill have to wait till Tue night to see how they get on in a band situation and Will keep the best performer......
16. At least you've got one barefaced I've missed another today Doh! Its like they wait till I'm not looking ;-)
17. Oh and the LB is 4 ohm 400w the vs 8ohm 300w (according to website but orb has 2 x 200w drivers in)
18. I've got my LB212 and was surprised that it weighed 24kg! I had a look inside and its got celestion 12 200x Speakers in. Thinking id been sold a lemon I rang ashdown and spoke to Dave who designed the LB I sent him some photos and he assured me its how it should be? He said they used emminence in these cabs as well depending on what they had and that he would expect it to be heavier as it was heavy gauge birch ply. he told me I as lucky to get one of the few remaining British cabs There is a label inside saying who covered the cab and he said that it was made just up the road by the people who make orange cab. So its heavier than expected but seems top quality. Ill see how it sounds when my mibass head arrives today if its not for me ill just move it on but hopefully its a good un Bri
19. PPS having a history of selling and changing my gear regularly, when I told my band mates that i'd like to get a sandberg basic ken taylor I was told in no uncertain terms that id have to save up for it and wasnt allowed to sell my current basic to fund it! They were so impressed by the sound i had and how well it complimented the band
20. I was gonna go for a geddy lee when i was looking for a slim neck. After being toldhow good they were by trb boy I tried one of these in PMT manchester and although it wasnt as 'paper thin' as id expected, it just felt really really good! I managed to picked up an A1 condition second hand Basic off the forum here and can heartily recommend them I sold my stingrays and haven't looked back. They dont have the look I would have gone for but have given me the best sound I've ever had. Great Basses good luck with the sale (i'd go for the natural myself!)
21. i saw the mibass cabs on the site the other day but not for sale anywhere yet. Thats why i went for the LB 212 I need my new set up as i have gigs lined up. Pity as i would have liked the modular aspect of 2 112 cabs. Still I think i would use both cabs most of the time due to the drummer and guitars so will (hopefully!) be happy with the LB if its as good as Ive been told.
22. I just googled it and they ranged from 369 to 390 I found one at music junkie for 329 (never bought from them so taking a chance but its on the plastic so should be protected) seems to get reports re output and weight to take on barefaced cabs Not used them before so we will see I will keep you posted
