For me it's all about the condition - scratches and dings that aren't obvious are fine but if someone before me has been clumsy or tried to fake relic a bass then I would walk away from it, even though it may be the best playing bass in the world. I'm not anal about my basses, I rarely clean them and when they are not being gigged they're kept in a gig bag but my basses are always in excellent condition. Alll I ever do is change the strings when needed, do a setup when needed and lemon oil the fretboard when needed so there could be gaps of anything up to 6 or 7 months between me actually doing anything other than playing my bass. In the 70 or so basses I have owned I have had maybe one ding that has been caused by me

Would you play a style thats not to your taste ?
Delberthot replied to thunderbird13's topic in General Discussion
I would like to clear one thing up - I enjoy playing what I play and enjoy playing with the people that I play music with. I don't play anything I don't want to play. If I didn't want to play then I wouldn't, simple as that. Its nothing to do with me being in a function band, brass band or a f***ing spoons playing trio. I simply enjoy doing what i do and if you dont then I don't give a f***. If you don't want to do it then don't f***ing do it. I simply stated what I do, I enjoy doing what I do and I do it f***ing well. If you want to play for yourself and to f*** with the punters then do it as long as they like you cos if they don't then you won't be back. I'm not pro and wouldn;t do it cos it ceases to be a hobby and becomes you job. -

I've played in a wedding band for 14 years soave been playing a lot of music that is not my style. From the Brown Sugar Thread where I was undeservedly slated for saying that I played it my way - if I am playing something I don't particularly like, I try to make it my own. Perhaps by using subtle improvisations or completely different bass lines. The truth is that most punters really don't care what you are playing and if it happens to be 3bpm faster than on the record then who is really going to notice and who gives a f***? The most important thing is to entertain the paying public and as long as you can do that and enjoy yourself then I see no harm in it. If you can take these songs and change parts so you enjoy playing them more, the rest of the band are happy and the crowd enjoy you then you've done your job and enjoy yourself in the process. IF you can't do that then get out and get into something you will enjoy -
Selling my Trace Elliot 1248H 4x12" cab
Delberthot replied to Delberthot's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I think the difference in the sound is attributed to the fact that the 2x15" is ported and I believe that the 4x12" is sealed. The 1524 is also in a bigger enclosure which I assume affects the sound. The 4x12" has a horn Both great cabs, both very loud but there's something about the 1524 that I prefer. Quite a few diferences - size of enclosure, size of drivers, sealed v ported, horn v no horn. -
Selling my Trace Elliot 1248H 4x12" cab

I'm now keen to sell this since I have now located the missing piece of my rig that I have been searching for. Plenty of people watching the auction but no confirmed offers yet. If you're interested PM me with an offer. I'd prefer the buyer to collect or meet up somewhere. I can post if necessary but it will be quite pricey. -
I like the Killers' bass player's tone - especially on Jenny Was a Friend of Mine

I have wheels on both of my cabs and have a stair climbing trolley for the few gigs that would require we to navigate a lot of stairs 65kg is a hell of a weight though, possibly closer to 45kg - that was the weight of my Trace Elliot MkV 4x10" combo. an 8x10" weighs in at around 65kg - you'll know when your lifting one of those cos after you lift it you'll be right over to the chiropractor

Obscure Musical Backwaters - The Great SGC Nanyo Thread
Delberthot replied to Happy Jack's topic in Bass Guitars
I've just picked my 460 up from Paul Glazebrook who as usual has done an excellent job of sorting the action, polishing the frets and generally setting it up nicely. I'm overjoyed - so playable and just a nice object to have around. The neck pickup makes a rich powerful dark sound with a decent amount of punch, but the signal from the bridge pickup seems weak in comparison. Not sure why this might be, any suggestions welcomed. Here's a shot inside the control cavity, the blend pot is top centre. Is this any help? Here are a couple of pictures, not very good quality but you get the general idea. Mods, if you're reading this please can we have this thread re-stickied? Besides being as Jack said one of the major sources of information on the net for SGC Nanyo basses, it attracts a steady stream of new recruits to the site and has more than 14,500 viewings!
Thats a 465 exactly like the one I used have with the ebony fretboard and paduak top - lovely bass -
Does anyone know the exact bassline of this?
"learn it yor own way"....pphhwww bit of an excuse really, learn it properly from the record...the "my version" is usually a bit crap (EVEN when its Bill Wyman and the 4 notes requried)can you belive that? getting a gig means you have to do this type of irksome thing
If you're depping and the band want it learnt as the record then you learn it as the record but if its your own band then what difference does it make? Do you really think that punters will be listening that closely? I rarely play anything as it was done originally unless the bass line is the main part of the song - eg you couldn't improvise Good Times by Chic cos the bassline is the song. Plus I've never had a period in my playing career where I've not been in at least one band and have never been told to learn it like the record so that irksome thing hasn't been an issue. Sorry to go but you really don't know me and take offence at someone telling me that what I am playing is crap. -

I believe that Big John's uncle has had it in his loft since new. -
If you were to go to glasgow, you'd be as well taking it to the mighty Jimmy Moon. did the best set up ever on a bass of mine

why not learn it your own way? I've never bothered to listen to it to learn it note by note and have been playing it regularly in bands for the past 15 years. -
Well this wasn't predicted. Waited for years to get one, got it, loved it only for me to prefer the sound of my Trace 1524 cab. I've only had this a month or so but I'm not going to need it so I've fired it on Ebay. If any forum members are interested then I am happy to do a deal for it on here rather than incur Egay charges http://shop.ebay.co.uk/Delberthot/m.html?_...op=1&_rdc=1 If you're interested then have a read over the auction and PM me. I'm not looking for any trades at this time but may change my mind for the right piece of equipment.

Selling my Riverhead Jupiter bass - When I listen to the demo I did when I was 19 it really makes no sense why I sold it. I've been looking for it ever since. I was really into Nathan East's playing at the time and seeing him with that big white Yamaha TRB6 made me want something similar so I traded it for: White Bass Collection SB305 passive 5 string. One of the best basses I've owned. Really easy to play, light and a great B string. Sold it when I bought my black Stringray 5 string Sonic Blue Status T Bass 5 string that I had defretted - sold it for peanuts, KP if I remember correctly 3 basses out of about 70 isn't bad going. no amp/effects regrets though - every one a gem.

Whereabouts in South West Scotland are you? Does anyone here know if Alan at ACG in Moffat does setups? If its any consolation, we started off Friday Night's set with 'Don't Believe a Word' by Thin Lizzy but I started playing 'Wishing Well' by Free. Don't remember ever doing that before. Whoops.

I would say that your budget would more than cover a more powerful rig if you buy second hand. I picked up a Trace 1524 2x15" last weekend for £95 and used it at Friday's gig - one of the best cabs I've ever played through. I would say one big question that hasn't been asked yet is that will it always be you lifting the rig or will you have help? I am in no way being sexist but it will be a factor when choosing gear. My 4x12" weighs 40kg and the 2x15" must be around the same
-
Have you tried a Precision?
-
Well I can honestly say that I had the best sound I've had in a long time. This amp is so powerful and warm - I had the most amazing sound tonight. I've wanted a 2x15" for years so when the chance came up to get one I had to take it - its probably about the same weight as my 4x12" Trace cab but I have wheels on it. 4ohms, 400 watts = plenty of volume. Both amp and cab were ticking over nicely tonight As for using a plectrum - it was like a dirty chainsaw cutting through rusty metal - the dogs sloblock Orange Terror Bass & Trace Elliot 1524 = much enjoyment. So much bottom end and definition

How am I going to get this fast?
Delberthot replied to The inglourious bass turd's topic in General Discussion
You got some speed man? I too would like to see how to increase my speed with a plectrum. I'm getting better at relaxing but still have a long way to go to decelop a decent technique -
And The Award For Best Bass Goes To
Delberthot replied to Pete Academy's topic in General Discussion
Nah, don't like these modern pretenders. :snob: I've never liked the sound or the look of them. Give me a good Precision any day of the week. I am totally in love with mine Oh how times change when I wanted active everything with at least 5 strings, more controls than the Hubble space telescope and and would change the strings once a month. I've just changed mine a few days ago - that should do me until autumn -
using mine for the first time with the rock band tonight I'm like a dog with 2 thingies Terror Bass and a Trace 2x15". mwahahaha.

good job we're not on Talkbs - you won't find anything with less than 9 strings on there I jest of course, or do I?
