I think what I'm selling might fit the bill. I'm selling my Hartke LH500 and have an Ashdown 4x10" that I can add to the deal for well within your budget. At the weekend I depped with a band that only had a vocal PA in a huge marquee and there was loads of volume to spare. I have 2 4x10"s but the reason I'm selling one is because I'm never going to need it.

Shockwave used to own the ESP so you could try asking him or find the for sale thread. Best 6er I had was an Ibanez SR1016. Similar to the SR506 but made in Japan and I think a forerunner to the Prestige series.

Try as many as you can. There are good ones and bad ones regardless of where they are made. I'd never found a decent mex until I found the one I have now and I've actually never found a US one that I liked either. I'd always gone Japanese up until now when it came to Fenders. Have you tried your bass through another amp/cab? I used a Precision through an Ashdown ABM EVO RC something or other (big chrome rackmount thing) and ABM115 and it's where I got the belief that Ashdown stuff sounds wooly but I'm currently using a Hartke LH500 through an ABM410 and its getting close to what I'm looking for. I love the Ashdown 4x10" cabs regardless of ABM or MAG - I think they both sound great.

Depped at a wedding tonight on what is officially the furthest I have driven to a gig - 300 mile round trip to Meldrum House, north of Aberdeen. One of these vast country places that when you drive through the gates you've still got another couple of miles before you actually get to the venue. Nice and sunny driving up but horrible rainy flooded driving back I only got the call for this gig on Thursday and had to learn 16 song but most of them went ok. Just a vocal PA tonight but the Ashdown cab was more than capable for the large marquee we were playing in . Been thinking about selling the Hartke head but I've hit on a sound that absolutely love. For an active PJ bass, it sounds so much like the Precision tone I had in my head using the same Roto flats that I had on my Thunderbird. Just need to try and get a bit more definition on the E string below the 5th fret and I'm set. Completely different set to what I'm used to but still managed to fit in a request for Living on a Prayer. Quality- hopefully get more gigs ahead with this band

guessing from the pic using the leads pictured - the amp is speakon out and the cabs are jack only - so speakon from the amp to the first cab then link out of the first cab using the jack/jack to the second cab. This is a complete guess

I wouldn't worry about the made in China thing - these guys are making some scarily good quality products. As someone who's owned many a GK amp, if that's the sound you like then go with the GK. As soon as I get the cash together I will be selling my Hartke LH500 and going back to GK as its the only amp that can give me my sound.

Tonight was the third last gig with the wedding/function band I've been in for 17 years as we're calling it a day at the end of the year. The singer/keyboardist and drummer are off doing other stuff already and the keys guy isn't singing in the new band and its really showing - there was a fair bit of yodelling going on tonight, the guitarist tried playing a guitar solo in a different key to the rest of us, the drummer was dropping sticks nearly every song but like last night I had ball. I'm really enjoying my playing these days now that I'm not concentrating on the Doddies. Funny thing is that a couple of months ago I played the same venue as tonight with the same bass with the same flats and the same backline and absolutely hated my sound, ending up switching back to rounds after 4 years of using flats. This morning I put those 4 year old flats back on and gigged the bass tonight and the sound was sublime - very focussed, tight, punchy, like a rusty chainsaw when using a pick for Chelsea Dagger and Sex on Fire and thunderous when I used the D-tuner. I could feel the bass frequencies coming up through my feet. I was like a dog with two boabies.Quality. Don't know why but I'm becoming more animated at gigs, kind of the bass player is at the wrong gig style. Maybe its because the band's ending that I'm making the most of it. So if you happen to see a large fella with tattoos on each forearm, sweatbands on each wrist playing a green Precision jumping about like a daftie then its likely to be me

Got a call Wednesday night to play with a band I sometimes dep with but havent played with for over a year. They do a lot of completely different stuff like Bed of Roses & In These Arms Tonight by Jon Bovi, Sledgehammer, Sultans of Swing and Ace of Spades so I had to run through what I had of their set on Thursday night which was about a dozen songs I'd written down the last time I played with them. They also tune down a semi tone. No set list so I only found out what we were playing when we were about to play it which made it quite an interesting night. The singer and guitarist are both showoffs but in a funny way. The both use wireless systems as do I so at one point during the night the singer was outside singing, the guitarist was behind the bar pulling a pint while doing a solo so I went into the next room as well. It was a really funny night and I really enjoyed it. I came away with £40 for my troubles but I didn't care cos I'd had a great night. I think that years of playing in a wedding band had me always focussing on the money but I changed my attitude and now do it because I enjoy it. If you're in your local and you see an ad for a band called Sideshow, go and see them, they're a really good entaining band and play for the audience, not just themselves

I've gone ahead and bought one so looking forward to trying it out and getting that section of fret level

Used the credit card and it only seems to wobble around where the D string is on that fret

I have a bass that has an annoying buzz on the 5th fret of the D string. Its only on that string so I've ruled out the truss rod and the height of the strings as it doesn't do it on any of the other strings anywhere. It only does it when playing the 5th fret of the D string and very, very slightly on the 4th fret but only if I play really hard. I was thinking a raised section of the fret itself but it looks to be seated properly and it was meant to have had a fret dressing before I bought it. An unlevel fret is all that I can think that would be wrong with it and if it is then would something like [url="http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stainless-Steel-Guitar-Fret-Rocker-Laser-Cut-Luthier-/221112995571?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&hash=item337b5c8ef3"]this[/url] be suitable? I have no problems with setting up and modifying my own basses so am happy to do whatever work needs done on it myself - I've just never owned a bass that had this problem. Alternatively, could it be something else?

They were neck and neck with the Chilis until Under the Bridge then it was game over. So unfortunate as MIke Patton is vastly superior a singer to Anthony Keidis. Loved Jim Martin on guitar as well I still love FNM and listen to them regularly. Depending on what I have with me I'll either play octaves but using thumb and index finger to play two notes at once, I sometimes use a pick and play root - firth - octave chords or use a Boss OC-2

Steve Moore is a really nice guy. I've spoken to him on Facepalm and was really surprised that the took the time out to reply to something I'd asked him. Makes something that is so simple to play look so complicated
