I now have the 2EQ version of this bass on its way, albeit it with the normal natural headstock. I love this colour on a Ray....great quality.
Yeah,I love it too, but I'm considering changing the scratchplate for a tort one though... If I can find somewhere that sells Stingray scratchplates!
I wish i knew if that neck was jazz sized or not (and i know they do vary so its not that easy to tell).
I tried one of these last week and the neck was lovely - not as thin as a jazz, but definitely not the usual P-bass width at the nut; very much like a 70's precision.

What is considered the best fretless bass?
guybrush threepwood replied to Linus27's topic in Bass Guitars
I absolutely love my fretless jazz bass, but ultimately it's all down to personal taste; it does the Jaco thing very well, but obviously doesn't sound like a Wal, for example. However, in my opinion, it's the best fretless I've played because I love the feel and sound of a good jazz. -
This thread might help Pete.
It's really interesting to hear the difference; the 2EQ seems a lot smoother, but for my personal taste I love more 'aggressive' mids.
that's exactly what happened to me in 1984 and i've never looked back - here's the proof..... this baby was in factory fresh condition when i bought it - all it needed was a bit of mojo, which i was happy to apply. great choice - i hopy are both very happy together and that you never have a cross word without making up before bed time!!!
That is lovely! I tried one in that finish in the shop, and the difference between it and the one I bought was so slim, however my precision is natural ash / maple fingerboard, so I thought I'd go for a little variety. And I'm a sucker for the extra warmth of rosewood! I used it at a wedding gig last night and it was an absolute joy; despite only having it a couple of days it was amazingly easy to play - I feel like I've owned it for years! I'm completely set up for that band now - my p-bass does all the motown and soul numbers, while the ray handles the funk and disco!

Hmm... I didn't get to try a 2EQ, as they only had 3s in the shop

Gaffa tape, curtain pole and a few odds and sods.
guybrush threepwood replied to paul h's topic in Gear Gallery
This is the coolest thing I've seen in ages! The sound reminds me of Les Claypool's whamola -
I made a rather rash and impulsive purchase a couple of days ago; I was in a shop in Leeds trying out different basses, and after playing many Fenders, Sandbergs and an Ibanez ATK I picked up a Stingray. I've never played one before (I did have a cheap copy as my first bass, but that was terrible) and I was blown away by the feel, sound, articulation, build quality and, most of all, the range of tones available from that one pickup! It can be tight and snappy or warm and loose, simply depending on where you place your right hand, but it always maintains that incredible growl. Then add in the EQ and there's such a massive range of tones there. Also, the neck is quite fat, but so comfortable and fast - it just fills the hand beautifully. I hadn't planned on buying a bass that day... but well, it had to be done. I tried out 5 of them, including a five string, and a Sterling (which I didn't really like the feel of - the body was too small for me), and I picked my favourite. After thinking that they were overpriced (as they look quite a 'simple' bass when compared with others in their price range), I am now a complete convert! Anyway, sorry about the terrible iphone photo - a friend has my camera at the moment.
Do you have all the original parts still?
Hi Ryan, unfortunately I don't have the original parts; the bridge was on it when I got it, I've sold the pups that were in it, and the tuners are now being used on a home assembled project.
hi is this a highway jazz ?
Nope, it's an American Traditional, perhaps the precursor to the highway one; they were a Mexican / American hybrid - made in the US with Mexican hardware, however, all of that has been upgraded. -

Warwick - Give me the good, the bad and the ugly.
Snapped the truss rod while making a fairly basic adjustment on a Corvette. Fine, my fault, I'll pay for it, I thought, even though I've been adjusting necks for 20 years and have never had a problem before. Spent about a year trying to buy a new neck from Warwick but, as there isn't a Warwick dealer in ROI, they were as accomodating as a crotch rash. They're just not interested in dealing with customers directly and, if you can't go through a dealer, it's tough sh*t as far as they're concerned. You'd think a neck that chubby might be a bit better built but, wh, there you go. Never again.
That's a real shame about the service you received there mate - I've emailed them in the past about the 2 Warwicks I used to own, and got a reply from Hans Peter Wilfer! The importance of PR... Anyway, I absolutely loved the 2 I had; orignally a Streamer jazzman 5 string - fantastic tone, but the neck was a bit too chubby for my sausage fingers... And a old Corvette with the really, really thin wenge neck, god that was an incredible instrument! -

Fender US Jazz Bass, 1999 American Traditional model. I got this last year from Rasta in a trade for my Warwick Corvette. It's an absolutely amazing jazz with lots of honk and bite, but with a soft touch it can really sing. However, as lovely as it is, I hardly play it nowadays as I play my fretless pretty exclusively, and I hate having things I don't use; think of me like an anti-hoarder. This one has made the rounds on basschat - see old sales here and here. Excellent condition; a few little dings here and there, but nothing serious. The bass has been upgraded in a few places, some where done by me, some by a previous owner; firstly the bridge has been replaced with a Gotoh 203. The pickups were Kent Armstrongs, but I replaced them with DiMarzio Ultra Jazz - hum-cancelling split coils that sound like single coils, albeit a little beefier, with no hum. They still retain lots of high end though, just with a bit more bass. All of the electronic cavities have been shielded with copper tape, so there is no noise at all. Finally, I changed the tuners for Hipshots - these are ultra smooth, stable, and have a 27:1 ratio. The bass comes with a hard case, and has been recently set up, with a lovely low action. Now £450 / £475 delivered, not really looking for trades at the moment.
