1. Yeah, I know what you mean - all gear comes down to personal taste ultimately!
2. Nowadays, I think it's hard not to buy anything blind, regardless of what instrument or equipment it is, or what price bracket it falls into. Due to lower overheads, the prices of internet music shops tend to be lower than their 'real world' counterparts, and this is obviously very hard to ignore. Although it's great to try something out first, there is a certain amount of guilt accumulated by testing something in a shop, then going away and buying it online. However, as great as the internet is for music shopping, its resources of reviews, sound clips and flash videos of musical equipment is also indespensible. Except from Harmony Central; there are many reviews along the lines of "This is the best bass in the world because so-and-so uses one and now I do too..."
3. It probably would mate- I love the sound of this setup, but my back, shoulders, neck, arms and, most importantly, wrists hate the weight! I should be doing a lot of restaurant gigs this year, so I need something a bit more 'modular' as well - one small and light cab for those type of gigs, two cabs for bigger venues. To be fair, a 4x10 doesn't exactly scream 'jazz trio'
4. Get listening to some Mars Volta... incredible.
5. Chuffing heck, that was quick!
6. Series / parallel switch for P bass, wired with tonepot. The volume pot has the S1 knob on it, but the tone pot doesn't have a knob (btw, it's solid shaft). You can find the wiring diagram for the switch here: switcheroo
7. Ok, here goes... a feeler for my current rig to see if it will generate any interest. I'm really after something smaller and lighter, as I'm playing a lot more gigs nowadays and lugging the cab about is doing me in! I'm sure that someone who isn't as weedy as me will love it. [s]David Eden WT600 Roadrunner hybrid amplifier - £600[/s] SOLD Absolutely lovely head, in excellent condition and in ABS rackcase. Valve preamp, with bi-ampable stereo SS power amp. Sounds fantastic - warm yet bright, fat and punchy, with masses of headroom, and delivers 300w a side (at 4 ohms), or 600w bridged at 8 ohms. [s]Ashdown ABM 410T speaker cabinet - £200[/s] SOLD PENDING 600w 8 ohm 4x10 cabinet, with horn. Good working condition, never had any problems, though the tolex is a little scuffed. Fitted with castors. Although both the items have been gigged they're both in good shape; as I mentioned the amp is pretty much faultless, and neither have ever been driven very hard - I've never had to turn the master volume past 10 o'clock on the amp, seriously, it's that loud! Would prefer collection, but I could courier the head for £20, or deliver either personally, as long as my petrol costs are covered (and it's not too far!) EDIT for price drop
8. Looking for £170 ono for this, collection only I'm afraid. It really is in excellent condition as it's never been gigged, and is a lovely guitar - mahogany body and neck (set neck joint), rosewood board. 2 humbuckers and tune-o-matic bridge. I've got a gig bag to go with it as well. Selling as I want to raise funds for a new rig, and it's not a bass!
9. Cheers man, yeah I got the neck first, and thought that the body had to be red with black scratchplate - the fingerboard is so dark, it looks lovely!
10. Not a proper bass build I know (i'm absolutely terrible at woodwork), but none the less, it's something I'm quite proud of. It sounds beautiful, and only cost me £135! Many thanks to Captain Black for the bridge cover and thumbrest, and a massive thank you to zero9, who very kindly donated me the pickup! Anyhow, the specs are... 11.
I remember a thread a while ago where a BCer took the scratchplate off his MIA Jazz to reveal a clumsy pickup rout which went all the way through to the control cavity. I think that's more shocking on a £900+ instrument than anything Warwick have ever done. Whatever they cost they're extremely well made basses and i doubt any corner-cutting like that happens
I think that's the crux of it - Warwick's QC is spot on.
12. Hehe, that singlecut really is minging... The funny thing is, they were running a competition on their forum to design a singlecut, I assume this was the winning design, what must the others look like?! It's a shame that prices are rising, yet they're starting to produce the Corvette in Korea, I had a 1996 Corvette (which Rasta now owns) and it was one of the nicest basses I've ever played, it was before they started putting the tree-trunk neck on their instruments! For me though, the most shocking thing has to be their new price list - Streamer Jazzman 5 string, oil finish - £2,313... I bought one new in 2003 and it cost me £1050!
13. This sounds like it will be a wicked project! (Something I'd never have the guts to try myself mind)
14. As long as I'm free, I'll defo be there.
15. Yeah, I've got split coil dimarzio's in my Jazz, absolutely love them
16.
That just about sums up my Aerodyne 'P' - though mine has a bugger of a hum on the jazz pup (earthing is all good) wondered about a straight swap for a couple of SD's - just to give it that little extra kick- and to kill the hum (copper sheild at the same time)
It will hum when the bridge pickup is solo'd, as it's a single coil. However, it shouldn't hum when both pickups are up full.
17. Bought a P bass bridge cover from Joe, it arrived quickly, and he threw in a free thumbrest! Really nice bloke to deal with.
