The German joker strikes again....
guybrush threepwood replied to yorick's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Crikey, he seems a wee bit unhinged... -
I wouldn't recommend buying a cheap, no-name ebay one, they simply don't last. Really you want something that will provide some protection, not just a carry handle!
ac30s aren't class A it's just marketing hype, anything with more than one output bottle is generally gonna be ab1.
Ah right, so is that the difference between 'Class A' and 'Pure Class A'? A mate of mine has a Laney LC30, and that's advertised as 'Pure Class A'. I remember him saying a few years back about a builder called Andrew Guyton; made him an incredible guitar, and was in the process of trying to build a Class A 45 watt amp. Don't know how that turned out though - his website hasn't been updated since 2004... www.guytonguitars.com

Ah right, is that just heads then? I thought there were quite a few class A 30 watt guitar combos...
-
I wonder... If it's only 30 watt, do you think it would be class A?

+1 I definitely wouldn't trust them - if I walk in a shop and get treated like an idiot, I walk away. I once wanted to try out an amp there, and the guy simply plugged into it, played some generic slap, and said something along the lines of "There you go, all works, sounds great, the price is..." He really looked put out when I asked to actually try it myself...

I used a couple of incredible amplifiers on Sunday, both in very different veins... We were recording a demo all day, and the studio had a 1967 Fender Bassman... all I can say is yum. What an incredible sound! Then had a gig in the evening, and just before I left the house got a call saying I didn't need to take my rig, as there was one provided... It was Mark Bass - a tiny little thing that put out some serious power and tone. Although it was a little clean for my taste, I was amazed by how much sound it provided... It's really making me consider making the jump to lightweight, Class D gear. Anyone got any advice? I love the idea of the new Orange amp - I'd definitely want valves in the preamp...
I use a Korg DT-10 - http://www.dv247.com/guitars/korg-dt-10-di...r-silver--25214 Easy to see, accurate tracking, no noise.
I use a TU-2 and thought it was great until I tried one of these a few weeks ago; they're seriously quick. The only downside is they don't have a stream mode for setting intonation. However, they don't seem to flicker about as much as the TU-2, so you could probably use it without any problems.

That is pretty damn tasty looking... Does it make toast as well?

Bump! This really is a bargain for an absolutely lovely amp - don't confuse this with the gear Eden churns out nowadays. This was hand-crafted BEFORE US Music Corporation bought them out, David (of David Eden fame) left, and they started making an awful lot of stuff in the Far-East, while still claiming that they are manufactured in the US. A sweet bit of kit, I've got a 2004 WT600, and the sound is yummy. And believe me, you will not find an amp with more headroom. If I didn't own it's bigger brother, I'd be snapping this up like a crocodile at an all-meat picnic. Or some other ridiculous simile.

Bought some strings from Chris, all went very smoothly, a pleasure to deal with.
bass > sansamp > amp plus if you need to there is the Di out to a PA
This is how I wire mine in, except if I'm using an amp at a practice room, etc. I tend to find amps that don't sound that great benefit from wiring straight into the effects return, therefore bypassing the preamp section. Seriously, it can make horrible amps sound like SVTs!

I'd definitely recommend it. I use two channels set identical, with a little eq and none of the drive circuit for my main sound - one channel is set slightly higher as a boost channel. Then I have one with the drive circuit for a grind sound. It works brilliantly - I've never played an OD with such responsiveness; on the grind channel I can play softly and it stays clean. Play normally and you start to hear it break up, then dig in and get full overdrive. I love it! The advantage of the deluxe is obviously the 2 inputs (however, as I only have 1 bass now, I use the 2nd set of presets purely for recording - that way I don't have to tinker with my onstage sounds). But the effects loop is also a godsend. I'm not big into effects, but my boss tuner sucks tone badly, so I just put it on the loop!

Yeah, these sound interesting, have you seen the cabs that go with them? A 4x10 that's the half the size!

Oh wow, I used to have one of these, it was my first amp. I loved it, I wish I'd seen it before the auction was finished! -
there's nothing cooler than a fliptop
+1 This amp belongs in a gallery.
I've heard that Sansamp fall short in studio situations, has anyone recorded with the EBS MicrobassII or DHA VT1? do you get the same quality or are they a live only tool? Does anyone know where I could trial a VT1, they look great but I'd like to hear one
In my opinion the sansamp comes into it's own in the studio; live I use a little bit of eq on it through an Eden / Ashdown rig, but recording I just DI through the Sansamp. The emulation sounds sweet, and all it needs is a little compression.

Swapped my Warwick Corvette for Lee's Fender Jazz. He is a really nice bloke to deal with, and makes something which could be seen as 'dodgy' (trading basses through a courier without meeting face to face) effort and worry -less!

Wow, Ashdown and Ampeg stuff really looks great together! I've got an Eden with an Ashdown cab, and it looks like a creation of Frankenstein!
