3. My son bought me one of these for a present a couple of years ago - works perfectly & checks spot on against a full size Seiko keyring tuner
  4.
On a side note Labella flatwounds are recommended NOT to be strung through the body. Something about the break angle being too sharp. They seem to be prone to fail/break if you do this.
I've heard that before but I've had no problem - I've only had one set of them but I've recently changed them from another bass that was also strung through on a BadAssIII to this which has a Hipshot A style, no problem on either. Having said that - I honestly can't remember ever breaking a bass string - touches wood quick like
  5. With LaBella 'Original 1954 Oldies' on my '51 P, through body (like it should be) I've just dropped to DGCF & it feels so right The truss rod might well need a tiny bit of relief - we'll see tomorow It made me wonder if 'The Man' played it down, anyone know? Cheerz, John
  6. Reading your op again, I'm wondering if the jack socket is well & truly connected physically & electrically to the control plate? Don't suppose you've got a multimeter? I'd solder a wire from the jack socket outer ring to each pot body & link to the bridge, to be sure.

Joe & I did a swap - strings for loks - great communication & posted exactly as agreed. What's incredible is that we both sent each other a PM at the exact same time today, 11:49 to say we had received the goods. Where's the spooky smiley? A pleasure to deal with & I have no hesitation in recommending Joe to one & all. Cheerz, John
  8.
Looking good John but let us see the rest of it.
Just for you then Gary Cheerz

  11. Question & Answer Answered On 21-Aug-11 Q: Hi there, congrats on such a great amp,I have the V4( mk2) and V6 and would love one of these.Just wandered if you are open to sensible offers. Please dont be offended and obviously it states a starting bid of 3k,which is around twice what these generally go for, paid way less than half for both my Vs,thanks,Mike 21-Aug-11 A: No offence taken at all Mike and thank you very much for your interest. Prior to th e V8, I also had a V6 which I had all sorts of problems with. The bloody thing went in and out of the shop so many times I lost count (the Trace workshop in Maldon that is, not the actual High Street shop), but even they couldn't find out what was wrong with it. I'm sure the V6 model itself is sound; I guess I just had a rouge one. I'm happy to report that I've had no such problems with the V8 though. It's a totally different beast compared to the other V amps and I have never had any issues with it - apart from picking the bloody thing up! I'm happy with the price I've set. Owner's have let them go for cheaper than their original RRP (which was not far off £2K), but I've also seen them go for not a lot less than what I'm asking for. Never say never though, so if you have a price in mind just let me know. If anyone would like further pictures, I am also happy to oblige. Regards, Warren. Ask seller a question?
  12.
I have noticed that there is a very quiet constant rustling type intereference that stops when I put my finger on the bridge or control panel. Have I answered my own question with an earthing problem. Its a bitza jazz that has been up and running for a couple of weeks now. I have checked the wiring again to make sure the soldering is still good and checked the bridge earth. The only thing I dont have is "shielding" in the cut out for the control plate. What sort of material should I use if I need this? Cheers
Usually Copper Tape, adhesive backed thin copper, but you need to solder all the joins to ensure continuity & make sure it contacts the metal control panel. Are your controls physically connected by a ground wire or are they relying on contact via the plate? Have you tried another instrument cable just to eliminate that? Cheerz, John
  13. My latest P, I couldn't resist the call of the sunburst, came with BadassII & USA pick up (I'm told), I've given it a good clean, a tort plate, a set of Fender Flats & a complete setup. It does everything a P-bass should, very nicely

  17.

Needs more cowbell
  18. Sagawa ordered a special harness for a project from me, great communication & instant payment, a complete pleasure to deal with, no problems Cheerz, John
  19.
That looks mighty fine John. Glad it was a happy ending.
Cheerz Gary, I'm well pleased with the whole thing, looks good & plays sweet - couldn't hope for any more
  20. Well for future information I can say that the plate I ordered from link above - Guitars Electric Ltd - fits my MiM P-bass perfectly Every screw hole lines up & it's a lovely fit around the neck + the pick up. I couldn't be happier with it Nice finish, it even had 2 layers of protective film on & a bit of Aluminium foil stuck on in the controls area. Result
  21.
Good Post ! if you put a meter across them, would the resistance measurements differ ?
Bugger! I had it apart today & forgot to do that Anyway, there are no markings that i can see, now I've sorted the sponge etc the pole pieces protrude from the top approx 1/16", all of them, not just the A string like. Do both US & Mex do that? Sounds good, output level is just below a Seymour Duncan 1/4lb which is nearest I have to compare, mind you it is the only bass I'm running on roundwounds at the moment. Cheerz, John
  22. From here - I would say it's unlikely the pot is faulty, much more probably a bad/dry joint somewhere on those pcbs. It needs looking at I wouldn't worry about getting another pot until someone's put a meter across it.
  23.
Ok, just for a bit more information, this is Seymour Duncan's wiring diagram. Here's how the bass is wired as I type, and I'm pretty sure that's how it was originally wired. I don't think I've changed anything! Sorry that it's been done quickly on paint, but you get the gist. Also, the capacitor in the bass says 1H (no idea what that means) then 104K, which if I remember my AS level Electronics right means it's 0.1 microFarads, rather than the 0.5 on the diagram. Also the pin on the left of the tone pot has been bent back and soldered onto the pot itself, like the one on the right of the volume pot.
Top - standard diagram is correct - 2nd, how you've got it is wrong. The l/h tag of the tone pot shouldn't be soldered to the body, neither should the r/h. Rewire following the top circuit & it'll be fine!
  24. Show us how you've wired it with a picture can you? The only thing I can think of is that the centre tab of the tone pot, where the capacitor is connected - is also shorted to earth - ie: the pot body. Do you have a multimeter? Cheerz, John
  25. Thought I had one but - sorry just looked & the biggest is 65mm
