Oh my, I've gone and bought an Aria !!!!!!!
Mykesbass replied to Belinda's topic in EUB and Double Bass
The combo should be fine - I play mine through a Yamaha BBT head and 110 cab - sounds good to me! I'm still using the stock strings and am happy with them for plucking - haven't tried using a bow for over 30 years so couldn't comment on that aspect. Pretty sure they would be set up for jazz/pop/acoustic rather than classical anyway. Hope you enjoy it when it arrives. Mike -
Stolen Black Jazz Bass - Taken from behind KOKO, Camden.
As if even Crack Converters do have it at some point its a sod to prove its yours if you dont have these details.
Try the Kentish Town branch - I had to recover a gold disc from there - these guys never seem to go too far - have a look and if it is there call the police and they should tell you the procedure to recover it. Good luck. -
Wow, that was so good! Decent little music pub in a village just outside Guildford, great bunch of players, just basically winged a whole load of rock & roll and blues - audience loved us, some amazing comments, and we've been booked again for better money!

I'm sure most of you know what it is like - work for ages on one thing then someone leaves or the whole band implodes. Well that's been the score for me for at least 18 months since the covers band I was in went all wobbly! Got a stand in pub gig tomorrow night, little place, miles away, terrible money, won't even know what the set is until we all get there, but I'm soooooo happy. Time to try out the funky little Alucab I swapped with Thornybank ages ago in anticipation of the gigs happening a little sooner! Might stick a pick in my pocket in case the fingers aren't as tough as they used to be!
If you bought it new a year ago it will still be covered under warrenty.
or you could press for the EU ruling for electrical goods being guaranteed for two years - plenty of cases of this being succesful but you have to go back to the retailer not the manufacturer/distributor.

Anthony at Maccaris on Denmark St - old established shop - was on Charing X Rd for years, seems a decent bloke, well into his vintage amps. Also on Denmark St, Wunjo - they like unusual stuff, and have dealt with them a couple of times - good prices and no hassle. Alternatively, the guys in the Guitarist office in Bath may be able to help?
Thanks very much guys. Mykesbass, does that mean there's an after-market PUP that plugs straight in? Cheers Chris
As the Rev says, this is for the magnetic neck pick-up - I guess it is cheaper to use one set of electronics and just have the spare socket. Might be worth giving Aria a call - Gareth, James or Martin all really nice guys, if there is something available they'll be able to tell you.

A new band has done it for me - just loving learning a whole bunch of stuff - even the root/fifth country stuff Oh, and the VMJ fretless that I NEEDED for a couple of songs helps too!

Amazing use of musical technology… and a bass (of course)
Mykesbass replied to pantherairsoft's topic in General Discussion
Like that a lot - not only great use of technology but also highly musical IMHO. I also like the way he has juxtaposed all the hi-tech wizzardry with a really nicely mojo'ed bass. -
Hi Chris, Just took the plate off my two pick-up version of the Aria, and yes, I can confirm, this is a connection for the second pick-up. Cheers, Mike

I really like the look of these as well - here's the BGM review: http://www.bassguitarmagazine.com/index.ph...=37:bassguitars

Soft Skills - Key to Success as a Musician?
Mykesbass replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
Empathy both to the music and the other musos. -
Just to let you know, there is a fairly well established Irish band (not quite a Pogues tribute band but near enough) based in Brighton called the Shenanigans - perhaps that name change should come sooner rather than later! Good luck with the band. Mike

I'd love one of these: http://www.elderly.com/fmic/items/FPPB.htm

Anybody know of a particularly loud acoustic bass?
Mykesbass replied to bumfrog's topic in General Discussion
I got one for something similar. Not that much louder and very twangy. great plugged in though
Which one did you get OG - the Ozark I had when I had my shop was way louder than any of the others - extremely heavy though - wouldn't want to even try and play it standing up! -
Playing bass wearing black silk gloves - for BETTER TONE
Mykesbass replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
Worth a try - got to sound better than the boxing gloves it sounds like I have on when I play -
Thanks lads, We're based out of Dublin but with a couple of different nationalities involved. Raggae legend Dave Barker is featured on the 1st track on the show. I never got to hear the bonus track because I'm region restricted on the iPlayer.
Don't think it is on the iplayer - should be at the bottom of the page you linked to.
-
Well the bonus track sounds good - will listen to the show later. Nice work.

What If There Was A Bass Agony Aunt?
Mykesbass replied to Pete Academy's topic in General Discussion
Dear Bass Agony Aunt. I appear to be completely incapable of learning any of the notes above the 7th fret on any string on my bass (except the 12th fret). I've been trying to overcome this proplem for a couple of years without success. What can I do to stamp the knowledge I seek indelibly into my brain? Yours, Lost for notes.
Dear Bass Agony Aunt, Please tell me this is NOT a problem? I was very much under the impression that any deviation towards the dusty end put one into guitard territory and was therefore to be avoided at all costs -
Not definitive but hope this helps from: http://sixtiesmotown.co.uk/brenda%20hollow...0anthology.html Seasoned Motown fans and northern soulies will need no introduction to this great lady's talents and will no doubt already own her two LP's issued during the 1960's which are re-produced here in their entirety namely 'Every Little Bit Hurts' and the even rarer 'The Artistry Of Brenda Holloway' from 1967, which kicks off disc 2 opening with the previously unreleased stereo mix of the northern soul favourite 'Think It Over' (before you break my heart) aka 'Reconsider' and one has to say it sounds so much better in stereo and remains as one of her most memorable moments with the label and a stellar performance from the Funk Brothers on backing.

Irma Thomas "I won't cry for you" nice blues rhumba Sam & Dave "When Something is Wrong Wth My Baby" dead straightforward but works well for the song - just hope it's not on the banned list! Dr John "Stack-A-Lee" Lovely, quick, unusual walking bass. More Dr John and some Little Feat to come - so refreshing after being subjected to the likes of Summer of 69 in the past
