Extra deductions from fee by venue (Rip off?)
Mykesbass replied to Mateybass's topic in General Discussion
Getting you to pay PRS is very naughty. They pay an annual fee based on the size of their venue. Every act that plays there will then fill out a PRS form - most will claim all the songs they played are their own but that's another issue. PRS will then work out percentages of the venues licence fee to pay the writers. This will all depend on how many acts perform and how many songs they do so the venue doesn't really know how much your individual performance is worth. Not sure about the VAT, could be legit, having owned a VAT registered company there are some very complicated rules out there. -
Wunjo appear to have an Ox bass - a strange Fender neck/Charvel body Precision (second one down). Not sure if he ever played it though.
Thought they could've spelt Entwistle
I agree with the above sentiments entirely ... Is there? or will this be some sort of "Pimp my bass?" thread.
Careful, I may have upset someone with such a suggestion......
There is one drummer in Suffolk who is legendary amongst other drummers for his technical skills
Who be that, boy? (in my best Ipswich accent)! I saw a drummer working with a device called the Beat Bug - it registered his snare beats and let him know if he was wandering. The guy was scarily accurate. Would strongly reccomend them to anyone who is fanatical about time keeping.

My friend's shop has a Squier 5 string P Bass in - new but probably been around for a while. As per a previous post, the neck looks enormous! If you are interested though, drop me a PM and I'll put you in touch. It's about an hour and a half from Southampton to here. Mike

SKB Universal Shaped Electric Bass Soft Case
Hmmm, not superior if i need two hands free ;-) Cheers.
Sorry, hadn't carefully read your second post! There was a hybrid that Strings & Things (Musicman UK distributors) did that were really unpopular but to my mind hit the mark - a soft outer with solid foam inside - sorry, can't remember the brand name but will try and find it. -

+1 on the Hiscox - a little more money but very superior cases. -
Welcome to the forums. You may want to stick a post in Gear:Miscellaneous - you're bound to get chapter and verse on strings and scale length there! Good luck.

That's no rant - I'm sure many of us share the frustration - I'm now 2.5 years down the line trying to get something fun and viable together down in Brighton - I can't imagine how tough it must be in Cheltenham. I guess an hour down the M5 isn't a very attractive proposition? Good luck, I'm sure something will happen for you.

Hi Andreas - welocme to the forum. Great place you're from - home of Therapy? had a good night at one of their gigs there many years ago!

Red Planet Guitars - shop's own brand? Staffordshire? There are a lot of manufacturers that will do very short runs of branded guitars, all usually very generic. This lot seem to be lefty specialists.

Was in retail when these first came out and stocked them. Originally, they were using the previous Fender hardware - i.e. when they updated the standards the Highway One inherited the old pick-ups etc. Now, by the look of things the pick-up is the same but you get a BadAss on the cheaper bass. Also, the BIG difference is the satin finish on the Highway One - was a big issue among a lot of players who wanted their gloss. (oh, and a gig bag, not a hardcase, so add another £80 for a Hiscox). http://www.fender.co.uk/products/view_spec...n+Bass%26reg%3B http://www.fender.co.uk/products/view_spec...n+Bass%26reg%3B Get out and try some - as with all Fenders (all basses?) some have "it" and some don't.
There are dedicated products that might be a bit safer, like New Skin.
+1 I've used this in an emergency, will need to re-apply several times but it should get you through. Good luck!! -
Oh, and Marty Prior at Isaacs on the docks in Ipswich on Sundays.
I am sure you did not mean to say NWR is a small time Bass player...
Not just Norman, I wouldn't want to refer to anyone as small time, but, in the spirit of this post, and he may well be on here somewhere as he makes a fine bass as well, I'd like to recommend Pete Stroud - catch him with Bad Influence, or even better, when ex Bluesbreakers guitarist Buddy Whittington is over, see Pete with his old Peter Green mucker, Roger Cotton on keys as well.

Instant opinion on a Cort GB34A
Mykesbass replied to Anthony Joseph Wiaczek III's topic in General Discussion
Got GB 75 with ash body - really well built, nice bass. Only negative (which may also affect the 34a) is the active electronics are way too complicated! -
Oh the fun of the session player's life
Even the singers, racking my brains for the guys name - got it, Tony Burrows - apparently on three top ten singles at the same time!

Thanks for posting OldGit - great player, fun interview.
