  1. Hello Phil You're right, there is no other choice of gauge for the low B. I've used La Bella white nylon 5 string sets for years and never felt the low B was particularly flabby. However, I have also had issues with intonation on the low B in some sets, but as long as it's stable up to the fifth fret E I haven't worried about it. Not sure that helps tbh, but you're not alone Cheers Gareth
  2. Hello Si I've been on a similar search, and would suggest Galli synthesis flats or La Bella white nylons. The Gallis have a nylon core so they stay pretty low tension but have the feel of a traditional flat on the outside. They are quite mid-sounding, but not in an unpleasant way. You probably already know the La Bellas, but I have used the standard set (with the .060 G string) for many years and am a huge fan. They work really nicely on longer scale basses. Cheers Gareth
  3. Interesting thread. I think it's absolutely the right of any musician to keep going for as long as they feel comfortable doing so. No one is forcing audiences to sit and listen to them. A few observations on some of the artists mentioned. YMMV of course Elton John: Sounded awful at the Queen's jubilee event but was good at Glasto. Coverdale: Lost his power years ago, but has packed out stadiums in spite of this. I think he's confirmed he won't tour again now? Rob Halford: Priest have de-tuned for years to allow him to keep hitting the high notes, but even he is struggling now. Chrissie Hynde: Still amazing. Agreed.
  4. Yes, it’s a BSR6M. The W stands for walnut. Oliver nailed it.
  5. I play a lot of fretless and have had both, but would say go for dots in the fret position rather than dots and lines. It looks cleaner and is less confusing when playing. Here's my view.
  6. Bass Bros seem to be getting some real traction in the marketplace at the moment. I haven't used them myself, but if OHM recommends them they must be good.
  7. I do! No issues whatsoever. Punchy as you like. Or slippy, whatever's needed.
  8. Agree 1000%. Used them for 30 years.
  9. Always loved a bit of the Tzuke. That album has some awesome playing by John Giblin on it.
  10. First year at uni. Took my 1.1 Fiesta down with me, upgraded the radio, added speakers on the parcel shelf in the back, and had a shoe box full of tapes to dip into as the mood took me. Good times! These are the albums I remember playing the most: U2 "Unforgettable Fire" Level 42 "World Machine" Stevie Ray Vaughan "Couldn't Stand the Weather" Kate Bush "Hounds of Love" Killing Joke "Night Time" Judie Tzuke "Ritmo" Icehouse "Primitive Man" Plus plenty of older Purple, Rainbow and Whitesnake.
  11. I know GHS do a set but I can't seem to find them anywhere in the UK. Anyone know of any is stick somewhere, or of another brand that does pressurewound nickels?
  12. This hit me hard. Bernie was one of my heroes when I was in my teens, and I saw him a few times when he was in Alaska, the Moody Marsden Band, and solo of course. Great player, but above all a kind, generous and humble human being. No age too Rest in Peace Bernie. Thank you for the music.
  13. Not in my experience, but horses for courses....
  14. You beat me to it And yes, I'd either leave it or do the iron with a damp tea towel trick.
  15. Steve bought a pedal off me. Super smooth deal and I wouldn't hesitate to deal with him again.
  16. Versatile synth pedal in very good condition with original box. Particularly good for those 80s basslines! Price includes 2nd class recorded.
  17. For me, it's La Bella white nylon flats on a fretless, and has been since pretty much they were introduced. They are very versatile, aren't "thumpy" or dull at all, and have plenty of sustain right down to the low E and B. I love them.
