    Thanks Matt. I already know the answer as I asked them a while back - it's 38" so as long as their tolerances are good, and I suspect they are, I should be okay.

    Not sure that's correct. Standard set is £38 whereas custom set comes in at £46, unless I am doing something wrong!

    Thanks, all, for the replies. BC is such a fab font of knowledge. I think my challenge will be finding strings that are consistently the right length. I love LaBellas and have used white nylon flats on this bass for years, but their QC is awful as I've had lots of strings shorter than the 38" they specify as extra long. Fender don't appear to do extra long 7150s, but if DR's QC is reliable then their standard long scale could work at 38", same for Elixir's extra long scale (also 38").

    After many years of using flats I'm thinking of going back to rounds on my fretless, but I don't want to lose that wonderful glide you get with flats so I am wondering what is out there that has a) minimal finger squeak b) a smooth, slinky feel. Oh I've tried groundwounds and don't like them - too grippy. As my bass is strung through body they will need to be at least 38" from ball end to taper, oh and I need a 5 string set. My first thought is Ernie Ball Slinky? I fancied DR Sunbeams and GHS Pressurewounds too, but they aren't long enough. Suggestions most welcome!

    Boss MS3 here. I love it. Once you get your head around the interface it's easy to use. I have a bank of song-specific settings (e.g. "hooky", "bohemian", "boulevard") and then a couple of banks of single effect settings (i.e. chorus, overdrive, octaver etc.).

    Ah yes, that would help! It's quite big, with the internal dimensions 330 x 406 x 178 mm. You could fit loads of Fusions in it!

    Rather excellent semi-rigid gig bag from Gator in the sturdier original material rather than the fabric they use now. Hardly been out of the house so in excellent condition. I have added better quality foam to the neck pillow and lower cushion, other than that it's in as new condition. Only one shoulder strap is shown, but two will be supplied. £65 collected or posted for £75

    This came to me in a trade. It has very low miles and is in good overall condition, so much so it still has the plastic film on the zips. The Fusion website says "A slimline padded gig bag which is lightweight and portable. Ideal for carrying a bass on short journeys, where few accessories need to be taken along." Posting will bump the price up, so ideally it's buyer collects for £20.

    I recently bought a 2011 Overwater Aspiration Elite from Bass Direct and I am really impressed with how good it is. I was in the market for a nice but inexpensive fretted 5 as a second bass, and this fitted the bill really well. However, I have decided I really don't need it as it's relegated my fretless to storage, and that's much too nice a bass to not be gigged! So, first of all it's in great condition. I don't think there's a mark on it anywhere. The fingerboard needed an oil, but other than that all is good. It's a five piece neck through, maple and something walnut-like would be my guess, with what appears to be an ash body capped with a burl maple top. It's 35" scale, so a nice tight B string, and the 19mm spacing at the bridge is perfect for me (same as my Franz basses) and the main reason I got it. EQ is a three band Overwater system designed by John East. The control cavity is thoroughly shielded using paint and copper tape. The bridge and pickups are Overwater branded too, but I assume made in Korea along with the bass itself. The standard tuners were mini Gotoh-like ones, but as the bass was a bit neck heavy I have swapped them for Gotoh ResOLites which take the weight to bang on 9 lbs and have sorted the balance. Other than that the bass is stock. I've also added threaded screws to hold the control cavity cover in place. Live, the bass is really articulate: every note comes through crisp and clear. I honestly wasn't expecting it to sound as good as it does. I've played basses way more expensive than this that weren't half as good! £400 is a bargain considering the tuners were over £100. I will include a cheap gig bag. Would prefer not to ship as I have no box, but such things are always negotiable!

    Another vote for the La Bella white nylons, but won't be that loud. Roundwounds are a much better bet than any flat if you need unplugged volume.

    It depends. In an originals band I would say if someone isn't available then the band forgo the gig and look for another date, but when I played in a busy function band for a few years everyone had at least one regular dep. If someone's booked a holiday and a gig is offered on that date I don't think anyone would expect them to cancel their plans to play a gig, would they? What really gets me is when someone pulls out of a booking at the last minute to play another, better paid, gig.

    My Franz Sirius has a Delano Xtender in just about the perfect position for me: far back enough that it can give a nice bark if you want, but also plenty warm enough for mwah. The three-way switching and passive volume/tone setup mean you have a load of different tones beneath your fingers.

    I'd agree with this. People rarely drive their amps that hard, but it's quite a difference in power handling so you could do some harm.
