1.
Do you want any trades?
Not really if I'm honest, sorry.
 2. Lots of interest but no one has shown me the money yet. Postage to the UK is approx £15 (£30 insured to £1k) while the EU is coming in around £25 (£45 insured to £1k).
 3. I have a D-Tar Eclipse preamp in my Veillette Archtop fretless, which uses a piezo bridge and humbucking mag. Seems the perfect option, and I think you can get them from their UK distributor SMART. Cheers Gareth
 4. Checking shipping costs.
 5.
Sorry its not for you, this really is a fantastic bass.
Yes indeed it is Marc.
 6.
I am highly interested in this bass....is it still available and how much is that in US currency? [email protected]
Yes, still available, but £900 is about USD1440 and that's before shipping. I'm sure you could get one cheaper in the US.
 7.
does a credit check come into play? Pitfalls?... my credit rating is not the best...
It's a loan, so yes.
 8. The Take It Away scheme is made available through the Arts Council.
 9.
And it goes without saying that Clarky is an absolute gent to deal with, although let's face it, most of you know that already
Of course you've harly bought or sold anything on BC have you Chris?! Case of Pot, kettle? Seriously though, I agree that the Aria is the best EUB to get unless you want to splash some serious cash, and this one is priced to sell!!!
 10. I recently picked this up in a part-trade with Voxpop (top guy, recommended), but having spent some serious playing time on it I have come to the realisation - once again - that six strings are just not really my thing; will I ever learn? Anyway, this particular bass plays beautifully, easily the best of the four Smith 6s I have owned, as the neck is nice and shallow (front to back) and the 16mm spacing means you can get around it with ease. Action is low and fast. It balances well and is a very managable 10lbs. As Voxpop said in his ad, the bass is in excellent condition for its age, the only wear of note being a chip on the back of the top horn. It also comes in a worn but fully functional Smith teardrop-shaped hard case. For those of you unfamiliar with the Burner line of Ken Smith basses, they were made between 1989 and 1998. Basic construction was carried out in Japan, using woods sourced from the USA, with final assembly and QC in USA. The specs on this bass are:

3 Piece Laminated Maple 34” scale Neck
24 Fret Rosewood Fingerboard with Genuine Mother of Pearl Top & Side Dots
Translucent Blue High Gloss Polyester Finish on Ash Body
Smith BT Active 2 Band EQ Circuit ( Individual Bass & Treble Cut/Boost, Pickup Blend, Master Volume Control with pull knob to switch to passive mode)
Smith Humbucking Soapbar Pickups
Smith Quick String Release Bridge, machined from Solid Brass - Black
Smith Custom Tuners - Black
Dunlop Straplocks - Black
Smith Tapercore Strings
Final Set-up done by Ken Smith
String Spacing 9mm at nut and 16mm at bridge
Weight: a shade over 10lbs
Marc and I valued this bass at £900, so that's what I'd like to get back. If it's of interest to anyone you can try it out at my gaff in NE Hampshire, or I can take it to work with me in WC2 if any London BCers fancy a spin on it. If it needs posting we'd have to work that out separately at additional cost. The bass is also listed on eBay for £1k and will go to The Gallery as a commission sale for something similar in due course, but I will honour the £900 Basschat price for the forseeable future. Cheers Gareth
 11.
PM sent!
Shielding foil sold.
 12. I have the following unused items: Sprague Orange Drop 100V Capacitors (0.022, 0.033, 0.01 and 0.001): £3 each posted 1st class, or all four for £11 posted 1st class SOLD Sheet of Shielding Foil with adhesive back, 16" x 8", £3 posted 1st class SOLD Cheers Gareth
 13. Hi Phil Presumably you want something that is good for arco and pizz? Depending on what tension you like, perhaps something by Innovation would be a cost effective experiment, like their Honeys or Super Silvers? Cheers Gareth
 14. As some of you may have seen, I've been keen to try and sort out a Silver Slap low B for my BSX. Well, after a call to the folks at Innovation yesterday, I am pleased to say that not one but two low Bs arrived this morning, with a note saying "tell me what you think of these". How's that for service? Tony followed up my thank you email to say that the two strings are of a different formula, so this is as much an experiment for him as it is for me. Cheers Gareth
 15. Tenor guitars were originally created to aid the transition of banjo players to guitar in the early C20th. Also, they're tuned in fifths, not fourths like a bass, so quite a different beast. While CGDA is common, GDAE or GDAD are also popular.
 16. Steven bought a gig bag off me. A pleasure to deal with; prompt payment, good comms. Recommended!!!
 17. After many years as a Levys Leathers user, I have recently gone over to Harvest Leather. Bought two of these, and for the price I reckon they're hard to beat! Cheers Gareth
 18. Shep's a good guy. He bought a DVD from me that Royal Mail managed to lose, and rather than demand his money back was fine with splitting the loss. I'd be more than happy to deal with him again; yet another first class Basschatter!
 19. eltel? You're not Terry Finch by any chance are you?
 20.
I've gone and sold the Veillette Acoustic Bass I was going to bring (which is a really shame 'cause it's a stunner
21.
As a newbie I am discovering that each type/model of DB suits certain strings better. Given DB strings are typically £75-100+ a set (over £200 for Garbos!) this makes finding the right set-up bl**dy expensive ...
Morning Clarky Yes, I guess DBs are no different to electric basses in that regard, just a lot more expensive as you say, and when you factor in personal taste as well it gets much more complicated! An email from Tony at Innovation has pinged into my inbox. He thinks the 3/4 Silver Slaps should work okay on the BS, as the synthetic core should just wrap around the tuners and not break, so I'll give them a go and report back. It may look a bit unsightly, but if it works I may be able to convince him to make a BSX-specific set in the future. Cheers Gareth
 22.
As soon as I find the Honey D I'll post it on. (I've put it somewhere safe!)
Somewhere safe? We'll never see that again then! Seriously though, much appreciated Keith.
 23.
I take it you play a lot of slap stuff?
Funnily enough, I don't! I just really like the tone, tension and feel of these strings.
I know a very good rockabilly bassist who uses spirocore solo sets, downtuned to regular orchestral tuning, to get the sound of steel strings with a low tension for slap. Perhaps that would work for you on the EUB if the scale suits Thomastik strings?
Yes, I had thought of that option too, but I think I want to see if I can emulate the "grippy" feel of the Silver Slaps first.
Some people just don't have that musician spirit about them I guess.
Indeed. Not a very sensitive approach to your condition at the time. Thanks for the input.
 24.
Hi Gareth, My Kolstein takes 1/2 scale I ordered a 1/2 sized Honey D to try out which didn't suit it. You can have it to try out if you want to. Let me know if and when the spiro's are for sale. 'best Keith
Hi Keith That's be great, thanks very much! The Spiros will definitely be for sale. The speaking length of the strings is fine and they stay in tune well, but the silks are fuzzy and there's some loose tape up around the top end on a couple of the strings. Not really sure what to ask, but maybe we could PM about that? Cheers Gareth
