1. I tried stock strings, Helicore Hybrids and Innovation Silver Slaps on the Aria EUB I had, and the low tension, gut-like qualities of the Silver Slaps were the best choice by some way, both in terms of feel but also in the sound that was produced. I've since upgraded to a BSX Allegro EUB, which is a much more hybrid instrument as it has a proper hollow body. I'm still using Silver Slaps on it and, for me, the sound is just divine. Just my 2p's worth...
2. Evening all I've decided to see if there's any interest in my Veillette Paris fretted 5. This is a stunning bass which hasn't even been out of the house since I received it! The spec: Two piece poplar body with a radius top finished in a light tobacco burst Maple neck Pau Ferro fingerboard Two Citron humbucking pickups Aguilar OBP2 18v active preamp (volume, balance, passive treble and active bass) Gotoh lightweight tuners Hipshot "monorail"-style individual bridges Weight is a shade over 10lbs, and it balances perfectly. Needless to say, it sounds wonderful, with a big fat tone that would be best suited for rock, blues or a soul kind of vibe. Played with a pick it's really slicing, and the tonal difference between the pickups is huge, so you can go from a P bass to a J to anything in between. So why am I selling it? Well, I've been playing more and more fretless over the last few years, so much so that I don't see any point in having a large sum of money tied up in something I just don't play; my Veillette Archtop fretless is all I need. New, I think would be some way over £2k now, but I am looking for £1850 posted in the UK, and will ship it in a new Protec Contego case. If you live in the SE you are welcome to come and try it out, either at my home in NE Hampshire or at work in Central London. Cheers Gareth

9.
Wow, what a fabulous piece of wood. By the way Gareth, check out Paul Hathway if you're looking for a mandola.
Thanks for that. I've played Paul's instruments before and they were certainly an option until I found a nice mint Fylde! Cheers Gareth
10.
Sounds good - paypal ok? Let me know an email address if so!
Thanks Mike, PM incoming...
11. I bought one of these last week to transport my new bow in. However, it only fits French bows and as mine is German, well, you know the score... So, £8.95 posted anyone?
12. Hello all I hope it's okay to post this here, given that it's a listing for a third party. Mods please free to delete if I am breaking any house rules. While talking to Roger Bucknall at Fylde about a new Mandola, he mentioned he had a 32" scale 4 string acoustic bass needing a home. Being the decent chap that I am I suggested he email me pics so I could put it up here for people to see. Here it is! Roger's asking for around £2300. You can email him [[email protected]]here if you want more details. Cheers Gareth
13.
No, the Veillette is still on the way. Should be with me week after next. It's a piezo only one though and I'm still hankering after something Precision based in Lake Placid Blue with a maple fretless fingerboard. Got the possibility of a previously loved Squire 50s Classic Vibe, but I already know the standard neck on it will be too chunky for me – hence thinking about a replacement neck.
Ah I see, well that's a relief. Quick turnaround on the new bass too?
14. Have you parked the Veillette then Phil?
15. "boxed up and ready to ship" bump
16. That's a great read Mike, and it sounds like your are enjoying the ride! I must say it's lovely to see so many Basschatters taking the plunge into upright. I only started just over a year ago, and then only on an Aria EUB, but I haven't had so much fun in ages. My new BSX Allegro is very much a hybrid between EUB and a full upright, and I absolutely love it. Happy Days! Gareth
17.
Clarky has recommended Innovation silver slaps but i'm not sure if they are ok for bowing, has anyone any suggestions ,many thanks in advance!
Silver Slaps bow just fine and are lovely played pizz

19. Putting up the set of 1/2 scale Spiro Weich plus a medium low B that came fitted to my BSX Allegro. They've seen better days, with some fraying of the silks and tape separation at the headstock end of the strings, but they tuned up okay when I put them on the BSX when it arrived (it had been shipped with the neck off) before I replaced them with Silver Slaps. They are about 60" total length, made up of 5.5" ball end silk, then 48" actual string, then 14-15" [A and D], 9" [E and G] and 8" [low B] of silk at the headstock end. How about £50? Cheers Gareth
20. I'll also bring my BSX Allegro 5, as well as the Ken Smith Burner 5 I have for sale at the moment here.
21. I wonder is putting a felt pad or a bit of tape between the A string and the bridge might take the edge of the harshness?
