1.
That's very exciting Gareth and I guess goes some way to explaining why I can't tempt you with another of Joe's exotic creations :-)
Hi Phil Believe me, I would love to have another Veillette... or two .... but this bass is special as it's a sort of 50th birthday present and tribute to my Dad combined, funded by my Mum and Mrs Walbassist. Cheers Gareth PS 50th Birthday not until 2016, but bass is ahead of schedule!
2. Hi guys The bass has been in "the book" for some time. It's going to be pretty special as the facings are from a chestnut tree that came down in my Mum and (late) Dad's garden in 2010. The wood has been resting at Paul's since then, was split in February this year, and finally cut down to body blanks last week. As I said, Mk I fretted, standard hardware. Might go for an ebony board though, and possibly a lighter body core wood. It'll be good to have a Wal back in the fold and legitimately call myself "Walbassist" again. Cheers all Gareth
3. Just had an email from Paul that my new Wal will be ready in the Spring! Mk 1 fretted 4, if anyone's interested Excited!
4. I'm no electrician, but sparks and burning smells are not good whatever the situation, so I would get it checked out. I'd drop ashdown an email too. They are usually really fast to reply and should be able to let you know what damage, if any, has happened. Best of luck Gareth
5. OBBM had this cab at the recent SE Bass Bash and it sounded HUGE!
6. Mmm, nice rig at a good price. The Pirhanas have good punch to them.
7. I've always loved the Bass V, but I'm not quite sure why.... Lovely looking example though
8. Yep, that sounds way too high to me. How low is the nut cut? Fretless basses can have the strings actually touching the 'board at the nut.... it's all about the relief!
9. Setups don't take long, but sometimes the neck may need to settle if a truss rod adjustment has been necessary. I would say a week is excessive though, more like 24 hours.
10. I've played about half a dozen of them. They've all been great basses.
11. I am sure it'll be an easy fix for Sandberg, probably just some clever use of capacitors or somesuch.... Surprised that you haven't had a reply, try "][email protected]. I have always used him and had fast repsonses.
12. Why not email the guys at Sandberg and just sort a replacement? I am sure they'd want to help out, and as the Umbo's passive I am sure it's a simple solution to get it back to fully functioning.
13.
The first time we did the BassBash at that school, I brought along four varieties of in-ear or headphone rigs for people to compare and set them all up in the Quiet Room. That also allowed people to bring basses to those rigs and hear what the basses actually sounded like. Think I might re-visit that idea next year ...
Excellent idea, but the real question is - did the shirt fit?!
14. I've had both. GB was very nice but almost too much at some gigs. Sweepable mids on the Tonehammer would swing it for me, plus the ability to play around with gain and EQ via the "drive" setting.
15.
For me, yesterday's lesson was that less is more. Next year, I will bring no basses and no amps/cabinets.
Me too. I might sit in a quiet corner and do set ups all day.
16.
I do think there should be some photos
I am sure Bluejay will be along with a load in due course...
17. A top day. Thanks to those who organised it so well. I am glad I took my earplugs though.....
18.
I haven't tried that! May be worth giving it a shot! My only concern doing that is switching between basses, as I surely would need to turn the volume off on the amp on the channel to do it.... Or would it work like it does now with the switcher pedal in that I can just do the foot activated volume off and on on the GT10b? Sorry, I always get lost of the amplification side of things!!
tonyf's suggestion of muting via the GT should work. Failing that just turn the volume knob on the bass down as you take it off
19.
My bass could do with a little tweak too, I have all the correct Allen Keys so if anyone can take a look at mine I would be greatful, especially with a gig tomorrow.
Happy to have a look at this too.
20. Sounds like input levels getting mixed up to me. Have you tried each bass in a separate channel and then running the pedal board in the fx loop? Oh, and remember the limiter is at 0 when it's fully clockwise (i.e. 5 o'clock).
21.
neck's a bit straight I think...
If you bring the relevant allen key I'll bring my stew mac action gauge and we can have a look.
22.
And also, if there's anyone coming tomorrow who's a bit handy in the set-up department, as my Blade B15 needs a tweak??
What's the problem Nik?
23. I have some vintage valves available for sale, if anyone's interested. Also definitely bringing philw's Veillette Flyer, as well as my own Archtop.
24. I'd like to see a CTM45 (6 x EL84s) with adjustable gain
