  2. John made a passive wiring harness for my Ibanez 1205 5 string. I love the bass and its my main gigging instrument when playing in a 7 piece funk band. I recently spent 3 hours trying a range of mid to high price range (£1500 - £3k+) basses and realised that passive single coils and simple passive circuitry was the sound I wanted. So I placed a post on BassChat re passive conversions and one name kept popping up;- KiOgon. Numerous emails later and through the post comes an immaculately prepared harness with top quality components with solder less connections- volume, blend, tone and a series/parallel switch. The soldering was perfect -such a neat professional job. Simple to follow instructions with complementary screwdriver!! Result? One awesome sounding bass! Sounded great before but now so natural sounding. Can really hear the wood and the Big Single Nords really kick arse now!!! Total transformation at an amazing price! Highly recommended!!!!
  3. Hey guys Thanks for the replies so far- really helpful! Who is the Ki0gen contact you mention ? Cant find him here??
  4. Help needed. I have an Ibanez 1205 5 string which has the Big Singles Nordstrand pickups. Its a great bass for the money- effortless playability and great tone. Excellent B string as well. The fact is though I really have gone off active electronics and instead can get the tone I need from the pickup blend knob and my plucking technique. Therefore I'd like to make this bass truly passive with just volume, pick up blend and a singe tone control like a jazz bass has. I know you can switch this bass to passive but all that does is bypass the pre-amp. It still doesn't sound truly passive and still needs the battery to produce sound. I'm aware of some after market 'super' passive pots which claim to do wonders. Any suggestions? I love this bass but feel the 'Nords' let loose without the electronics would sound so much better!!
  5. Thanks guys for all the help. Sold it as 'cab with issues' in the end and moved to TC RS cabs.
  6. Hey guys Just reading through these replies. Thanks for spending the time sharing your thoughts- really useful. Gives me plenty to think about. I used the cab as a monitor at a PA gig last night and will be using it again tonight at a gig in Soho. I'll give all of these posts some thought, and may well PM a couple of you. Thanks again.
  7. So. I have a Goliath Mk3 2 x 10 that has served me well for years. Its 4 ohm and is a great cab for small gigs- even handles a 5 string well. At reasonable volumes, it has just started to distort - nothing too drastic but it appears the drivers are on the way out. I spoke to a local expert who knows SWR gear well and he's advised me that replacement speakers would be a waste of time as the original PAS speakers are very much tuned to the cab and there is nothing out there that would do the job. The cab is in great shape, but clearly my initial thought of sticking a pair of Eminence BP 102 replacements in may be waste of time??? Big gap in mid range ... blah blah blah !!! Anyone solved this issue without spending silly money??
  8. For sale, a totally original and immaculate V Type 220 watt, all valve head. All valve pre amp and 4 x T 88 output valves delivering stunning bass tone. I've owned this amp from new and it has been extremely well looked after and is totally original and un touched with all of the original tubes. I've posted this amp for sale before but got cold feet in the end and withdrew it from sale. I really do not want to sell it as I doubt there is another one anywhere that compares with mine. It's expensive for sure, but if you've ever played a 2 hour gig through one of these when it warms up and sounds its stunning best then you will know why I'm asking this much. Collection only. No trades. Wokingham Berkshire.
  9. For sale, a totally original and immaculate V Type head. All valve pre-amp, 4 x KT88's delivering 220 watts of stunning bass tone. If you know anything at all about the V-type range, and have played through one then you'll know that these amps are very special indeed. I've owned this amp from new, and its been extremely well looked after. Not only is it totally original with ALL of the original Trace tubes, it is also unmarked as you will see from the photos. As this is one of the very first V4's, it comes in British Racing Green Tolex, and not the carpet covering of the latter models. This is a very reluctant sale, so £1000 only. No trades, no offers, no time wasters please. Collection only from Wokingham, Berkshire.

  12. For sale, a Goliath Jnr Mk 3 in great condition and perfect working order. Fantastic, transparent SWR sound with surprisingly good low end. I play in a 7 piece funk band and this cab has coped on its own a couple of times when I have had to travel light- even with the low end of my 5 string .I bought this one as a pair 4 years ago and have used its 'twin' coupled to a SWR 1 x 15. As such, this particular cab hasn't seen much action other than home practice for most of that time, and I'm looking to raise some cash by selling this and other cabs at the moment. These cabs are USA made, and are therefore really expensive new. (£642 is the cheapest Mk 4 on the web). Its rated at 350 watts so will couple brilliantly to many of the modern class D amps that run to 4 ohm. Any trial welcome. Open to offers.
