  1. "tres rare" Del boy selling basses now?
  2. Lovely flat necks on these, possibly my favourite profile next to a 62 P. These have gone up in value considerably.
  3. Mwaaaahahaha....😌
  4. My first bass was an unlined fretless, so they just feel right. Funnily enough, other than some Bruce Cockburn albums that have obvious fretless sliding playing on them, I'm not a fan of the "mwwahh" sound. I like fretless playing that you wouldn't know was fretless by just listening (Boz & Kenny Passarelli). Maybe Jaco's status as a bass "god" influences people to try fretless. Personaly I don't have any music with Jaco playing on, but maybe I should.
  5. Horses for courses & all that... I started on 1 unlined fretless 4 string in the late 70's, went on to own 5 & 6 string basses & a 10 string stick. 40 years later, I own 1 4 string unlined fretless. I tend to respond differently to 5 & 6 string basses than 4's too. I always end up noodling a lot more, playing chords and tapping when I've owned ERBs. Have whatever you're most at home with.
  6. Sounds like someone describing an Ed Sheeran gig.
  7. Not heard of this brand, but familiar headstock & body shape. Very Ibanez Blazer-esque? https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F292450625132
  8. Oh yes, where the horn is placed....that can be a problem. 😱
  9. I've owned 3 Spectors (only Legends & a NS models, do budget ranges). I have loved the varied tone pallet, the build quality, very comfy body shape, feel of the neck in my hand & the 5 string had the nicest B balance I can remember having. But....I just can't get on with the top horn placement not being over the 12th fret. I tried 3 times, until I gave up. Such a shame, great basses.
  10. A bit of sport on TV whilst playing has been a welcome distraction at some gigs. Can't say I've ever had any food onstage, might lead to strings getting covered in foodstuff. Bit like BRX, a drink (lager in my case) on stage doesn't get the attention it deserves & ends up warm and flat. But I do have bottles of water to hydrate, but as a drink, water is less "needy". So....food & drink on stage..probably not. TV? Absolutely! But I do insist on subtitles if it's a detective show, as it's so hard to hear above the racket coming from the stage.
  11. Oh dear! I'm in Bath.... I've owned 2 of Alan's basses, only sold them due to financial pressures. Fab instruments, stable as a horses' house due to the construction material. Someone buy this.....please. 😛
  12. Whenever I buy a car, I test drive it by first revving it as hard & long as I can, hoping that people notice me. Once I have their attention I attempt a doughnut manoeuvre I saw on YouTube (I stall quite a lot, but I think I look cool). It never occurs to me to check if the breaks, clutch, gears, lights work, or if the cars structure is sound...or, heaven forbid, it fits any practical needs. OK, so my cars never leave my garage (but no one in the showroom knows that, they all think I'm the Stig maaaaan)
  13. (All the plectrum users sniggering into their Dunlop 1.14mm pick tins) 🤣
  14. I have a guitar or two out on stands. On a couple of occasions I've managed to trade a couple of lessons with trades people (builder, gardener & chimney sweep) when they've come to do work. If they've spotted the guitars, I'll noodle on if they've showed interest, which has started a conversation like "ooh a guitar, always wanted to play...." "ooh I teach guitar, would you like a lession"...."ooh yes, but its quite expensive..." "yes so is your ridiculous hourly rate..hows about a trade?". A few "oohs" later, & no money has changed hands, but everybody's got what they want.....ooh!
  15. Korean built Kimbara Classical Guitar. Newly strung with ball end strings, set up with nice action. Comes in fitted foam/hard case. Used condition some nicks, but lovely guitar. I'm in Bath if you'd rather collect.
  16. As title. Used, but fully functioning, tested before listing. No case. But will include clip. I'm located in Bath if anyone wants to pick up.
  17. This! Gigged extensively in Europe (outside UK....) from the 80's to last July. Always well looked after by promoters/venues & audiences mad for a good time. You'll have a Fab time.
  18. Jazz width neck with "F" precision bass logo & fake Duck Dunn signature. Bought this last week for a project, but failed to measure the body recess, and it's too wide to receive the neck heel. I lack the skill to remedy this. So it's back here for sale with pics including measurements. Nice vintage style and literally taken out of the box, offered to the body & placed back. It's well packaged in 2 made for neck boxes. Link to original sales thread: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/319021-sold-duck-dunn-jazz-neck-sold/?tab=comments#comment-3455471 I'm in Bath if anyone wants to meet & collect, or I'll post it out for £50
  19. The "luring" worked then! 😁 Saved me a lot of "explaining" to do. Phew.
  20. Number of gigs doesn't equate to level of competence. To suggest a band that only plays 6 gig's a year doesn't deserve good musicians is a bizarre stand point.
  21. Sounds perfect. Describes my current situation. I love playing, and playing with great players, I just have no love for gigging. So 6 per year is about right....for me. What's the issue?
