Genz Benz LS115B cab. Just got this cab in a trade. Tried it with Ashdown ABM EVOII 300 head, and LMII head and it's a great sound. Loads of lows and enough high end response for slapping to cut through. It's just a bigger unit than I'm used to, so looking for a smaller more compact cab. (Ideally mini 4x8/1x15, or compact 1x15/2x10). I'm open to offers of alternative cabs, and am not worried about weight, just size. Would need min 300 watt capacity cab @ 8 ohm, or 500 watt at 4 ohm (if that makes sense.) Price as guide now.£250 It's in immaculate condition, been very well looked after, and has the usual Genz Benz quality build. The positioning of the handles on top give very good balance when picked up. The specs are as follows:- 300 watt 8ohm 24.5" H 25" W 18" D 61lbs weight I am unable to deliver/meet more than 20 miles from North Dorset at present due to personal circumstances. Darn it U Why do you always have cabs I want to buy?? Things a bit tricky at the moment, but need small cab to handle electric and upright bass.......these would be good? John

Due to 12 months of bad GAS, I've gone through Wenge/ovankol (Warwick), Graphite (Status neck on a custom Jazz), Maple (G&L Fender P). But always come back to Rosewood.

Here's a pic of the old beastie. just had a lovely set up. But didn't make my mind up on replacement strings yet, so will go back with new strings to be put on and any further adjustments. Solid top/back/sides. Slightly bowed back. Such a massive sound. It's old and "well used", but I love it. Also put EUB pics up (it's only a cheapie (£500)but authentic enough to get me the jazz gig).... John

Bought my GB from bassdirect. The warranty was for 3 years and it's transferable as it is for the equipment. It would appear that the retailer has responsibility for sorting any issues whilst the equipment is under warranty. Did you buy your gear secondhand or new? If new I would suggest you go to the original retailer. If secondhand find out when and where it was originally purchased. I have had communications with GB ref my combo. He was helpful to a point, particularly ref information about the amp. But I think unless you are based in US, they pretty much expect the retailers to "sort out" customers. I wanted to have some modifications carried out on my combo, GB said they didn't have any official/recommended "repair/tech" centres in the UK, so I didn't bother. John -

Got home yesterday with a recently aquired double bass. It's my first non-laminate acoustic. Soild top/side/back. Old and "well played". Monster volume and tone. I don't know the make, I'll have a look inside sometime. It's at a luthier having a set up today. The strings on it are quite old and I'm worried about how long they'll last. I'd like to put some replacements on whilst it's being looked at by the luthier fella. Any suggestions? The type of stuff I play on upright is trad jazz/gypsie/cowboy in a jazz quartet and then occasionally for a more mellow acoustic singer songwriter. So one has a bit of "bounce" and the other more straight forward pizz style. Might bow in the latter gig for one or two songs, once I've sorted my technique out!! I'm new (10 months) to upright playing, so although I've done some research, I'm still none the wiser other than I don't think I need "weedwackers"...whatever they are and there seems to be some folk who swear by "gut", others by steel. It also looks like DB strings last a little longer than EB strings, so worth investing in something decent? Appreciate any help please. John

Bought this new September last year, sold it as I wanted separate head and cab, bought LMKII, but preferred this, so bought it back! Great for my electric bass/covers band stuff (5 and 4 string). However, I've gigged it with my EUB couple of times and although it was nice and clear, after using a friends 1x12 cab with the upright the other night, I noticed the "spread" was better for double bass. Ideally would buy another amp...but moneys too tight...blah blah. So am offering this for trade for a 1x12 rig. Preferably of similar wattage, as it will need to cover both electric and upright bass in a variety of venues. The amp is still under warranty. I'm not in a desperate hurry to trade as it's a fine amp and I'm borrowing the 1x12 set up in the mean time. Here's some more details. Genz Benz Neox400 210 combo. 2x10 Neo drivers 425 watt into the 2x8ohm neo's Tube and FET channels, or the ability to mix them together. Switching and mix via foot-switch. It's 425 watts into 4 ohm, so get all 425watts from one box. Has very solid carrying handles at the sides, and casters on the back so can pull along. Dimensions:28 1/4” H x 21 1/4” W x 16 1/2” D " Weight 66lbs Obviously for a trade it will be a meet up to swap. I'm in north dorset and do a nice coffee if you fancy coming here. Or I'll drive to you (within say 2 hour drive for the right deal for both?)

Yamaha 20 watt practice amp. CD line in, active/passive switch, active 3 band EQ, headphone output. Great sound for such a small package. Used at home for teaching and also for rehearsal with EUB. Collection preferred, but could post at cost. I'm in North Dorset.

My NA350 made a huge fart, buzz and prolonged whistle.....then died. Only had it a couple of months bought used here, never gigged. Took it to a renowned local amp tech, who said that the internals were a "bit weird" and quoted something ridiculous to replace parts, but couldn't guarantee it would resolve the problem. Apparently the internals are all Chinese bits....I gave up the will to listen to any more (much like you probably are at this point of my reply) and binned it in a hissy fit. It was a shame as I loved the sound, very "Eden" warmth, but at a fraction of the price.....there's the rub me'thinks. The Eden forum had a couple of threads on these, with "noise problems". Great sounding amp...possibly went under the radar of QC at the factory?

I'm going to talk to the venue today and get some dates when it's free, then get hold of retailers/luthier/drummer to confirm they will be able to get there too. Sunday afternoons look best from other bash threads. Would it be just as well to go ahead and book a date, then just hope it suits? I know you can never get a date when everyone can make it anyway. Will keep you posted. "Mansons" in Exeter could be a good venue. BC'ers from further west who can't get to Dorset could organise one there??? ......probably have to put some plastic sheeting down to catch the GAS drool tho'

Jake....thanks, I've just read through this thread. You're a diamond for posting pics/advice. I'm new to gigging the DB/EUB and find it exhausting, but exhilarating. I thought, as a an e-bass player of some 30 years, that I'd be "match fit" to go out with an upright. But I was wrong. Jazz quartet plays mix of Gypsie/20's/30's type dance stuff, which is 2 to the bar I, V stuff, but I'm knackered after. Intonation, intervals, scales, etc not been a problem (to my cloth ears anyway), but I think my posture is a problem (6'4" height) along with "self taught" technique, so this has prompted me to go and invest in some lessons. Anyone know of any DB tutors near Dorset? How far away is Jake???
