1.
Hi, I've been trying to find a magnetic pickup for my DB and cant find anything for less than £100 which is half the price of my DB. so if anyone could point me in the direction of a cheap one or an alternative like using an electric bass pickup instead it would be greatly appreciated, thanks
Schaller mag pups come up 2nd hand here pretty cheap. You can use a P bass pup, if you can find a way of fixing them to the end of the board. Someone on here may even have something you could try, sadly I don't. All the best, John
 2.
Example for fast playing but awefull sound http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0CeJppd_20
He's fantastic, much better than that Victor Berlin, or that other bloke you lot keep going on about...Stanley King?? I don't understand why he's by himself in a dark room though? Where's the rest of the band, and why have they taken the crowds applause out of the mix?

 4. SORTED thanks. Dimarzio dp120 model one pickup available for trade. I bought this from here, this is the original sales thread. Unfortunately I didn't measure the string width before buying and this does not fit. It has not been fitted by me, and by the looks of it hasn't been fitted at all! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=Dimarzio Trade for a working pedal tuner, or £35 posted. Thanks, John
 5. I like them and they are very popular, hence their longevity. I enjoy Marcus Baylor's playing, nicely understated. Quite unusual for the genre, sadly for me. Yellow Jackets can be a "gateway band" for those funk lovers who want to explore something a little more complex, as they still keep a memorable melody/refrain in most of their tunes. Obviously not complex enough for some. I like them very much, but they are as far as I like to go within the sea that is jazz, before getting bored sh@¥less. But then again I prefer music for the "hard of thinking"...you know, songs.

 7. Just looked through this thread, including my own Chilean red induced nonsense, and I've come to the stunning, and sober, conclusion that:- What other bass players choose to play is no one else's business but their own. Don't get why there's so much venom aimed at other players.....get on with your own playing instead of aiming the spud guns at others, they don't care what you think. Back to the wine.......mmmmmm
 8.
Develop your musicality and your toolbox, work the song not your bass.
Well said N. This thread reminds me of something someone once said about women "dressing up" for a night out.....they don't do it to attract men, they do it to show off to other women and ward them off. I wonder sometimes whether some bass players play to impress other bass players rather than thinking at any point about what the song. So, just like the overdressed "slapper" desperate to be noticed on a Saturday night, the overplaying slapper desperate to be noticed, overdresses their playing, hoping to impress........sadly for them, no one at most gigs gives a toss. But what do I know, I'm an old slapper.
 9. Schaller pickup, with mounting screws, 12 months old. Picture up later, but it's in excellent nick, been on one bass for the year, but only gigged 4 times. £50 posted.
 10.
Just wondering how this is usually resolved.
Expensive lawyers......
 11.
Is this still for sale? Pics? I can't find any mention of them online
Yeah, I removed the pics as I have been using it and thought about keeping it. But it's available if you want. I'll put some more pics up tomorrow. Or you're welcome to come over and have a try out, I'm near Shaftesbury in Dorset. The pickup system has been retro fitted, proper job. John.
 12.
To me its all music. You either like it or you don't
We'll have none of your simple reasoning here matey!
 13.
Pm sent, please can I have it ?
Replied to.
 14.
what pickup is in it?
Just opened up and had a look, no name I'm afraid. Pots have "USA" on them, only reference on electrics.
 15.
Would you sell just the body? Cheers Dave
Hallo Dave, Which bits don't you want? If no one wants the whole lot then could do I guess. John
 16. SOLD P bass body, Alder. Fully loaded with:- P split, hand wound, pickup (unsure of make). USA made 250k pots. Black high mass bridge. Black 3ply pick guard. Black neck plate. Will include: Gotoh 22.1 gear ratio"elephant ear" machine heads for full black hardware. The body and pick guard have some scratches on them as it has been gigged. I'm in Dorset if anyone wants to pick up, or have a gander.
 17. "Now my concern is that, the hardest thing about searching for something like this, is that most of us wouldn't recognise it if we found it and that, if we did, we would carry on tweaking and tampering and lose it again." A very good point. I was watching you tube clip of benny goodman/Louis Stewart playing "Rose room", no idea who the bass player was, but I loved his sound. But there is no way I'd ever find that tone myself, I wouldn't know how. There appears, even to my dull ears, too many variations to factor in regarding DB, that I fear it would be a very expensive journey to find someone else's "tone". You once said "it's not a competition" Bilbo, which helped enormously as I for one felt like I had to sound a certain way. I'll stick with my feeble attempts at trying to play the right notes, at the right time, and not worry too much about anything else.
 18.
How much for the drum machine? Cheers, LC
Sorry LC this is sold. Thread now updated.
 19. Bought a lovely bass off Russ. Great packaging, nicely looked after guitar too. Gentleman throughout the deal, thanks. John
 20. Drummers should only be let loose in a band once they can play along (in time) to Trans-Island Skyway and nail the single best drum break ever (round about 4:10...) I know I've benefited from playing with more experienced musicians over the years, so perhaps you can help him? I like the idea of recording rehearsals then listening to them. Very exposing and uncomfortable at times, but a live recording doesn't lie.
