P-T-P's Feedback

I haven't bought anything else off Pete, but I just thought I'd like to reiterate what a nice guy he is. We all sat and had a lovely chat round at Si's the other night, was a great way to spend an hour or so. I had a go on his fabulous Lakky too, and now guess what I'm GASsing for? And there I was, thinking I was all bassed up. Pete's just a nice bloke to be around.

3.
This is a quote by Lee Sklar, which pretty well sums up my approach as well: "I am using my Dingwall fanned-fret 5string only. I am not one for dragging around a half dozen basses and always changing. If the song was done with a fretless in the studio, I just try to emulate it stylistically."
I see what Santa Sklar is saying about dragging loads of kit around, but I would never want to emulate a fretless part with a fretted bass. It wouldn't feel right.
4.
Well it looks absolutely brilliant anyway
Agreed. Flippin' fabulous.
5. I use an old Zoom 509 stomp -- cheap as ar$eholes.
6.
Best bit is the wife still has no idea I'm having it made, if she gets wind of it, it will be time for one of her Latina nuclear strikes, when her head goes its megga, so I'm staying shtum about it.
Mate, I don't know if that's incredibly stupid & reckless or incredibly brave!

8. Ahhh, gotcha ^_^ That really is going to be a cracker, definitely well looking fward to seeing how it turns out.
9. Woohoo yet another member for the Shuker Owners' Club Maple Fingerboard Sub-section Sweet looking beastie, love the retro vibe. Why 22 frets though..?
10. Jazz -- more versatile, and a more comfortable neck (for me, anyways).
11. nah... got to be Craggy Island
12. Slap is so much better when it's used as an occasional splash of colour rather than for entire songs... or even entire sets! {remembers self back in '86 and hangs head in shame} Throw in the occasional little slap accent or a quick snap here and there, and it gives the punters those nice little "WTF was that??" moments without edging into mullet/grey slip-ons territory.
13. I bought Sailing the Seas of Cheese out of curiosity, because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about with this Claypool fella I kept hearing about. I hated it. I mean, I despised every second. So I put it on a shelf where it gathered dust for a good couple of years, until a while ago when I happened upon it and thought I'd give it another go. And lo and behold... I hated it even more. Sold it for 3 quid on fleaBay, or it would have ended up as a drinks mat.
14. Well, I like it pretty much as it is, especially now the Warwick fixation has been toned down a bit. The slagging received by that hyper-expensive blue 5 string has probably seen them off! And there's a case in point -- there have been negative reviews in the past, and there will be in the future, you just have to look for it. Don't judge by the stars, just read the lines (and between them, sometimes). There are far better ways to say something's crap than just saying "it's crap"..! +1 for elom's "Reader's Wives" idea. Bassist had such a thing, and Bass Player still does. I'd like to see one in BGM too. I reckon the members of this august gathering have got enough subject matter to keep it going for the next 10 years!
15. Can I safely assume that there isn't going to be another one this year? What's the most likely month for next year's one? I want to try & make sure it doesn't clash with a gig YET AGAIN, 'cos I have missed all of them so far. Grrrr.
16. Been listening to a lot of Gerald Veasley lately. Nnnnnice

MARK BASS
Mark Bass amps do strike me as being a bit fad-ish. It was the same with EBS amps when they first started taking off, everyone going on about how amazing they were. Well, until Mark Bass came along
Yeah, my thoughts exactly! Not tried the Markbass gear yet, so cannot offer comments. It's very nice to see a good range of split opinions here though, I'd hate to see them getting completely universal praise or rubbishing.
18.
Thats a couple of tube stops from where I work so I should be able to make it.
Think I might join you for that! Can get very cheap train tix this far in advance.

20. Following on from bj_rocke's Amp/Cab thread about his almost-immediately expiring Ashdown head, what's your briefest customer-satisfaction experience? Have you had an amp that went *phut* on its first night? A cab that blew its drivers at the first watt? I've been very lucky so far... the only kit that has ever let me down was my old Laney PB150 ProBass 4x10 combo (remember them?), which blew one of its cones and then developed a dry joint. However, I'd had it 10 years when the driver went and the dry joint was 3 years after that, so it did well... EDIT: come to think of it, one of the pots on my Wal went kaput once too. But I'd had it for 9 years by then.
21.
If I ever purchase Ashdown equipment; it'll be s/h, tried and tested on ebay or Basschat.
If I ever purchase Ashdown gear, it'll be a very cold day in a very hot place. Tried a rig with ABM head and 4x8 + 1x15 cabs the other night, and the sound reminded me why I dislike Ashdown stuff so much. Bleucchh. Still, horses for courses innit? I have to agree with Waldo though, 15 minutes has gotta be some sort of record... I think we need a thread along the lines of "What's the shortest you've had a piece of gear before it failed/blew up/broke?"..!
22. I could be seriously tempted by one of their cheapo acoustic basses... certainly look the part.
23. For me, multiple speakers (e.g. 2x10) are 2-by-10, whereas single speakers (e.g. 1x15) are one-fifteen. Eh-pee-FAW-nee? hmmm sounds pretty crap to my ears Although I expect they think my surname sounds pretty stupid too Think I'll stick with 'eh-PIH-funnee' unless I ever meet one of them
Hartke - Har-keee
Blimey, I'd always used 'Har-kuh'. I stand corrected.
