1.
The caveat to the above is basically alcohol and night out. I would still like to try a Super P.
Oh and.... you're still a..... but we love u
2. These?
3. Dave the scale is 35" on the Super J / Super P. Not a lot of difference between that and an ABZ / ABII considering the Super series has 22 frets and not 24. The other difference on the 5 strings model is the spacing at the bridge where the Super J / P are have 19mm spacing vs the ABZ / ABII which have 18mm spacing. It all works out pretty comfortable and when you swap one for the other, you don't really notice a lot of difference but I must admit the 19mm spacing makes playing at the bridge a lot neater and cleaner with the strings a little bit further apart there is no risk of plucking the next string by mistake.
4. Well you can see it all again as it has been republished on their forum at this link: http://www.dingwallguitars.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2170&start=50
5.
IMO the OP is being a little over-sensitive. I can also see where noel27k is coming from. I personally find it rather disappointing, that an otherwise interesting bass manufacturer like Dingwall feel that it is necessary to "dress up" their ideas in the rather dull and unimaginative J and P clone guises.
No dude it's beyond my over sensitive nature, read the first post (I have just altered) and you will understand why.
6.
You didn't miss out on anything special - another Precision bass body rip-off, just with the as expected varying string length's Dingwall approach. Designed by someone with zero original thought.
That's why I have removed it. Some of you guys just don't know how to criticize, and always ready to take things too far. In response I would say that is an ignorant reply unless you've tried one you shouldn't diss them like that.
7. This bass is not yet in production and only a prototype which is meant to be sent to Dave Swift for approval to see if he likes it or not. It has a John East Retro-P preamp more details to follow once Sheldon feels it's ok to publish these. Infact the main reason I have taken it down, was that after it was posted on the Dingwall forum, the post from Sheldon with the pic and the description disappeared, as a result I thought it better to remove it from here in case it would upset Sheldon Dingwall. So unless he makes it public himself I have no rights to do so. I have lots of respect for him and I don't want to interfere with his intentions.
8.
Clarky, you've hit the nail on the head. Congratulations. No prize though, unfortunately - unless you visit Warsaw one day, in which case I'll treat you to a bowl of zurek and a kielbasa I suppose it must be the very same bass, although I bought it from a guy down in Sussex via eBay. No more teasers, here it is:
Nice! (but you can keep it, I am not buying that one off ya )
9. Very good news. It is always good to hear of a fellow bass player being on the way to recovery after an health issue. Keep it up.
10. At the end of the day if you are looking for something out of the ordinary, you need to visit shops which cater for those type of basses such as Bass Direct in Warwick or The Gallery in Camdem, and the rule of thumb is that frenchise stores like Guitar Guitar will always have the mainstream brands like Fender, Gibson, and the rest of it, not that there's anything wrong with that but... if you are adventurous, seek and you shall find.
11. It all depends in which store you go, I find it hard to visit Guitar Guitar in Epsom and come away without a new toy.
12. How dare can anyone vote to reputate people on "internet face value" ? I say get rid of the reputation system as it is POINTLESS. It's only when you meet a man and see what he is really like that you can form an opinion, not on a silly forum (not saying this forum is silly, mind you) I mean not on an internet social site where what's behind the screen can be either good or evil.
13.
I've taken the plunge and ordered mine
And that's all you had to do. well done
14. You'll find that any basschatter who owns one will give you the thumbs up on the Promethean. In fact you only need to do a search on Promethean and you will see lots of reviews and 100% satisfaction from all owners.
15. My honest opinion is that I didn't prefer them to the American Standard series. Didn't see the need for an active preamp on a classic design, to this date I still don't see the point. Like fitting a spoiler on a Bentley... or go fast stripes on a Jaguar.. if you see what I mean.
16. Sounds like extreeme sensitivity of your bass on board preamp which is getting over-processed by the sansamp? Try to set the bass preamp flat then experiment by tweaking the sansamp gain making sure it doesn't over boost the high frequencies.
17. either way it's a bodge, if that is the case he would end up with a flappy string that will sound like a rubber band compared to the other strings.
18. You probably can but, your D string will have a very tight tension, will be likely to snap, and put extra pull on your neck requiring for a truss rod adjustement. Finally when you pluck your strings that D will feel odd, as it will be a lot tighter than the rest of them. If I were you, I'd go back to the store and get the right string for the job.
19. This thread will be updated shortly.... lol wait and see
20.
Well?.................................................
Haven't you heard? Gareth ordered a Fiesta Red Precision, it arrived with Westone neck, the pickup was wired to the input socket so when he plugged it in, he blew his amp up and Gareth ended with a bit of an afro perm which is all the rage these days so he is quite chuffed about that one. However he is now waiting to send the bass back for a replacement and waiting for a a refund which should arrive in his bank account in about 6 weeks time, after that he should be back to Square 1 in no time. .... to be continued.... 21. For me a 4 and a 5 strings both in standard tuning, can be very different from each other.
22.
Thanks all, sounds like a good bet then. GW, thanks for the advice on fitting, is the neck a tight enough fit to keep it still while you drill? what would you rest it on? What size drill? Sorry for all the questions but I haven't done it before.
I used metal joiner clamps with foam pads and as for the drill bit... I'll be damned if I rememeber what it was. I took the bass to a mate workshop and tried a variety of bits starting from the thinnest one until the screw were tight as possible, it's not that hard really.
23.
Hi Tom, I bought a new maple/maple Mighty Mite Jazz neck off eBay a couple of years ago from an American seller & to be honest I was a little disappointed with it. The fret ends were really sharp in places & as someone else mentioned the nut is not the best. Maybe I was just unlucky with mine, however there were no dead spots & it did fit my P Bass perfectly. It has also been on my Jazz & it fitted that well too. Hope you get a good one!
I can explain... and this is not really a problem but these necks will once only sprout (as did mine and I forgot to mention it) i.e. the wood shrinks a bit and the frets stick out a little, it is not a defect, and more expensive basses do this too... all it needs is a gentle sanding (make sure to use some masking tape along the edge of the wood not to dig into it with the sand paper, and file away until the edges are smooth and not sharp anymore, you'll only ever need to do this once in the life of that neck.
24.
Cheers guys, it is for my CV Precsion in Fiesta red too was the fit ok?
Like a glove, perfect in the pocket without gaps but... the trick is to drill the fixing screw holes properly, because I am not sure if you are aware, these don't come pre-drilled! Place the new neck in the pocket and drive each pilot hole from the back of the body using a fixed perpendiclar drill that will go down straight in the hole and not at an angle and you're sorted ol' china.
25. I have bought one for my Squier CV P Fiesta Red, it was exceedingly good and very very resonant. Fretwork was great too, I would give them a 9/10 only because they come with a cheapo plastic nut which is horribly white and sticks out like a sore thumb, I soon replaced it with a proper bone nut one and I was happy ever after.
